Qatar Academy-Doha Students’ Participate in Planting Trees at Khalifa Avenue Project
طلاب أكاديمية قطر-الدوحة يزرعون الأشجار في مشروع خليفة أفنيو
The Public Works Authority ‘Ashghal’, through the Supervisory Committee of Beautification of Roads and Public Places in Qatar, participated with students from Qatar Academy-Doha, a member of Qatar Foundation, in planting trees at Khalifa Avenue Project on 9 October 2019, as a continuation of the campaign that was recently launched by the Committee. The event was attended by Eng. Yousef Abdulrahman Al Emadi, Projects Affairs Director at Ashghal, Eng. Mohammed Arqoub Al Khalidi, Chairman of the Supervisory Committee of Beautification of Roads & Public Places in Qatar, Mrs. Nicole Anderson, Middle School Assistant Principal at Qatar Academy-Doha and a number of participants from Ashghal and the Academy. During the event Eng. Amna Al-Bader, Secretary of the Supervisory Committee of Beautification of Roads and Public Places in Qatar presented some information about the project and the importance of planting trees and increasing green areas in the preservation of the environment. She also explained that trees will be planted from Qatari environment such as Al Sidr trees (Ziziphus spina-christi) and Sumur trees (Acacia tortilis).
Today, 25 students from Qatar Academy-Doha participated in the planting of 20 trees in Khalifa Avenue Road Project, one of Ashghal’s highways projects, as part of the “Qatar Beautification and Our Kids Planting Trees Campaign”, which will be implemented weekly by many participating students from different levels of education to plant trees throughout Qatar over eight months. The campaign will continue until the end of 2021.
The Committee carries out this campaign with the aim of raising awareness among school students about the importance of planting trees and instilling environmental values in them, and emphasizing that protecting and preserving the environment is the duty of everyone in the community, thus encouraging students to participate in achieving the goals of the country and carry out voluntary work to preserve the environment in Qatar.
Mrs. Nicole Anderson, Middle School Assistant Principal at Qatar Academy-Doha, expressed her happiness to see the students’ participation in planting trees in Qatar. Especially that the formation of children personalities at early stage enable them to become good citizens who strive to serve their country and work hard for its development and prosperity.
On the other hand, the students were cheerful in participating in the plantation. They were happy to get chance to learn more and felt proud to have planted their own trees on the land of Qatar, whereas one student expressed his keenness on watching the daily growth of the tree he has planted.
It is worth mentioning that the Khalifa Avenue project includes planting 6830 trees, of 312,000 meters square of green areas, 780 light poles, about 400 seats, 35 wooden Pergolas, 14 km of pedestrian and cycle paths and a 256 meter pedestrians and Cyclists’ Bridge.
Supervisory Committee of Beautification of Roads and Public Places in Qatar
The committee works under the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME), in coordination with several ministries and other entities of the State such as Ministry of Transport and Communications, Ministry of Culture and Sports, Qatar Museums Authority, Qatar Railway Company, Private Engineering Bureau among others. This Committee is responsible for five major tasks including construction of central public parks, provision of dedicated lanes for pedestrians and bicycles, development of the Doha Corniche, development of Central Doha, and increasing afforestation and greenery areas.
The Committee’s work will contribute to enhance sustainability through minimizing environmental pollution, reducing emission of CO2 through minimized consumption and conservation of energy resources. It will also focus on provision of more public transport options aiming at reduced use of private cars and improve lifestyle through clean and safe transportation. It will also work for provision of healthy environment within residential neighborhoods and places of public gatherings through increased afforestation and landscaping, which will greatly help in reducing temperature in cities.
قامت هيئة الأشغال العامة “أشغال” من خلال لجنة الإشراف على تجميل الطرق والأماكن العامة بالدولة، بمشاركة طلاب أكاديمة قطر، عضو في مؤسسة قطر فونديشن، في زراعة الأشجار في مشروع خليفة أفنيو اليوم 9 أكتوبر 2019، وذلك استكمالاً لحملة “تجميل قطر وعيالنا يزرعون شجرة” التي أطلقتها اللجنة مؤخراً، حضر الفعالية المهندس يوسف عبدالرحمن العمادي، مدير شؤون المشروعات في “أشغال”، والمهندس محمد الخالدي، رئيس لجنة الإشراف على تجميل الطرق والأماكن العامة بالدولة، والسيدة نيكول أندرسون، مساعد مدير المرحلة المتوسطة في أكاديمية قطر- الدوحة، وعدد من المشاركين من “أشغال” والأكاديمية.
خلال الفعالية، قامت المهندسة آمنة البدر، أمينة سر لجنة الإشراف على تجميل الطرق والأماكن العامة بالدولة بعرض بعض المعلومات عن المشروع وعن أهمية زراعة الأشجار وزيادة المسطحات الخضراء في الحفاظ على البيئة. كما أوضحت أنه سيتم زراعة أشجار من البيئة القطرية كأشجار السدر وسمر.
وقد قام اليوم 25 طالب من أكاديمية قطر -الدوحة بالمشاركة في زراعة 20 شجرة في مشروع طريق خليفة أفنيو، وهو أحد مشاريع الطرق السريعة التي تنفذها “أشغال”، وذلك ضمن حملة “تجميل قطر وعيالنا يزرعون شجرة” والتي سيتم من خلالها تنفيذ فعاليات إسبوعية بمشاركة العديد من الطلاب من مراحل التعليم المختلفة لزراعة الأشجار في قطر على مدار ثمانية أشهر على أن تستمر الحملة حتى نهاية عام 2021.
تنفذ اللجنة هذه الحملة بهدف نشر الوعي بين طلاب المدارس حول أهمية زراعة الأشجار وغرس القيم البيئية في نفوسهم، والتأكيد على أن حماية البيئة والحفاظ عليها واجب على كل فرد في المجتمع، وبالتالي تشجيع الطلاب على المشاركة في تحقيق أهداف الدولة والقيام بأعمال تطوعية من شأنها الحفاظ على البيئة في دولة قطر.
وعبرت السيدة نيكول أندرسون، مساعد مدير المرحلة المتوسطة في أكاديمية قطر-الدوحة، عن سعادتها البالغة لرؤية أبناء الأكاديمية يشاركون في تشجير قطر، كون تشكيل شخصية الطفل مبكراً تؤهله ليكون مواطناً صالحاً يسعى لخدمة وطنه ويعمل بكل جهد من أجل نهضته وعزته.
وبدورهم عبر الطلاب عن سعادتهم بالمشاركة في زراعة الأشجار حيث أفادو أنهم تعلموا الكثير كما شعروا بالفخر أنهم زرعوا بأنفسهم الأشجار على أرض قطر، وأفاد أحد الطلاب أنه سيتابع نمو شجرته التي يعتز بها كثيراً.
ومن الجدير بالذكر أن مشروع خليفة أفنيو يتضمن زراعة 6830 شجرة تشمل أشجار النخيل وأشجار كبيرة وأخرى صغيرة، كما سيتم من خلال المشروع زراعة 312,000 متر مربع من المسطحات الخضراء وحوالي 400 مقعد و35 مظلة خشبية بالإضافة لتنفيذ 14 كيلومتر من مسارات المشاة والدراجات الهوائية وجسر طوله حوالي 256 متر لعبور المشاة والدراجات الهوائية.
لجنة الإشراف على تجميل الطرق والأماكن العامة بالدولة
تعمل اللجنة تحت مظلة وزارة البلدية والبيئة وبالتنسيق مع عدة وزارات وهيئات حكومية بالدولة كوزارة المواصلات والاتصالات ووزارة الثقافة والرياضة وهيئة المتاحف وشركة سكك الحديد القطرية والمكتب الهندسي الخاص وغيرهم. وتتضمن أعمال اللجنة خمسة مهام رئيسية تشمل بناء حدائق عامة مركزية، وتوفير مسارات خاصة للمشاة والدراجات الهوائية، وتطوير كورنيش الدوحة، وتطوير منطقة الدوحة المركزية بالإضافة إلى أعمال التشجير وزيادة المسطحات الخضراء.
تساهم أعمال اللجنة أيضاً في تعزيز الاستدامة من خلال التقليل من التلوث البيئي وتقليل نسبة انبعاث ثاني أكسيد الكربون والتقليل من استهلاك موارد الطاقة والحفاظ عليها، حيث سيتم توفير خيارات للتنقل مما سيساهم في تخفيض الاعتماد على السيارات وتحسين نمط الحياة من خلال الاعتماد على وسائل تنقل نظيفة وآمنة كما سيتم توفير بيئة صحية داخل الأحياء السكنية وأماكن التجمعات الحيوية من خلال زيادة التشجير والمسطحات الخضراء. كما ستساهم زيادة نسبة التشجير والمسطحات الخضراء في خفض درجات الحرارة في المدن.
