Completion of upgrading works on Tihama Street and Al-Mansour Street in Old Airport Area

The Public Works Authority ‘Ashghal’ has recently announced the completion of upgrading works on Tihama and Al-Masnsour Streets in Old Airport Area (Area 45) as part of a series of projects implemented by Ashghal to improve the network of roads across the country. Works on both streets consist in approximately 1.4 km of road works in addition to the upgrading of infrastructure networks and lighting systems and the provision of pedestrian paths.

Eng. Soud Al Tamimi, Manager of the Roads Projects Department at Ashghal stated that the Public Works Authority has implemented, over the past three years, development projects on a number of local streets in the densely populated Old Airport Area with the aim of upgrading them and relieving the significant traffic congestion in the vicinity. He also highlighted the importance of upgrading Tihama and Al-Mansour Streets as they are connected to some of the most vital roads in the area such as D Ring Road and Old Airport Street in addition to the role they play in facilitating access to several populous residential areas along with many commercial shops, health centers and educational institutions located around the area.

Eng. Al Tamimi then added that as part of the Public Works Authority’s keenness to improve the safety and enhance the traffic flow on roads, the range of works of the project comprised the construction of a roundabout on the intersection of Al-Mansour Street with Al-Horriya Street, the provision of 150 new parking bays in addition to a 1.4 km pedestrian path and upgraded street lighting systems.

To further explain the scope of works implemented on both streets, Eng. Al Tamimi said that the works included developing the area’s infrastructure, such as developing the main drainage networks and connecting homes to this network, constructing permanent stormwater, groundwater and wastewater treatment networks, and protecting the underground telecommunications, potable water and electricity utility lines.

It is worth mentioning that the Public Works Authority has completed, over the three past years, the implementation of the same array of works conducted on Tihama and Al-Mansour Streets on the following streets: Al-Amine, Al-Rawdha, Al-Salah, Al-Tabarani, Al-Karana and Al-Hessein Bin Ali and has provided them with an integrated infrastructure networks.

أعلنت هيئة الأشغال العامة “أشغال” أنها قد انتهت مؤخراً من تنفيذ أعمال تطوير شارعي تهامة والمنصور بمنطقة المطار القديم (منطقة 45) ضمن سلسة المشاريع التي تنفذها “أشغال” لتحسين شبكة الطرق في جميع أنحاء الدولة، حيث تم تنفيذ أعمال طرق بطول 1.4 كيلومتراً تقريبا بالإضافة إلى تطوير شبكات البنية التحتية وتطوير أنظمة الإنارة وتوفير مسارات للمشاة.

وصرّح المهندس سعود التميمي، مدير إدارة مشروعات الطرق في “أشغال” بأن الهيئة كانت قد شرعت منذ ثلاث سنوات في تنفيذ مشروعات تحسين طرق في عددٍ من الشوارع الداخلية بمنطقة المطار القديم بهدف تطويرها وتخفيف الازدحام المروري عليها حيث أن المنطقة تشهد كثافة مرورية كبيرة، وأشار إلى أهمية تطوير شارعي تهامة والمنصور لاتصالهما باثنين من أهم الشوارع الحيوية بالمنطقة وهما الطريق الدائري الرابع وشارع المطار القديم، كما أن تلك الشوارع ستسهل الوصول إلى العديد من المناطق السكنية التي تشهد كثافة سكانية عالية باللإضافة للعديد من المراكز الصحية والمنشآت التجارية والتعليمية بالمنطقة.

وأضاف المهندس التميمي أنه في إطار حرص “أشغال” على تعزيز السلامة والانسيابية المرورية، تم إنشاء دوّار على تقاطع شارع المنصور مع شارع الحرية وإنشاء 150 موقفاً جديداً للسيارات إلى جانب توفير مسارات مخصصة للمشاة بطول 1.4 كم وتطوير أنظمة الإنارة بالشارعين.

وعن أعمال البنية التحتية التي تم تنفيذها ضمن نطاق المشروع، أوضح المهندس التميمي أنها تمثّلت بالأساس في تطوير شبكات الصرف الصحي الرئيسية وتوصيل المنازل بهذه الشبكة، وإنشاء شبكة دائمة لتصريف مياه الأمطار والمياه الجوفية، وإنشاء شبكة لمياه الصرف المعالجة بالإضافة إلى حماية التمديدات الخاصة بشبكة الاتصالات والكهرباء والماء الموجودة تحت الطرق.

تجدر الإشارة إلى أن هيئة الأشغال العامة انتهت خلال الأعوام الثلاثة الماضية من تطوير عدد من الشوارع في منطقة المطار القديم تشمل شوارع الحرية، والأمين، والروضة، والصلاح، والطبراني، والكرامة والحسين بن علي والمنصور، حيث تم تزويدهم ببنية تحتية متكاملة.
