Washington: H H Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Chairperson of Education Above All and UN Sustainable Development Goals Advocate, took part in a thought leadership seminar co-hosted by Georgetown University and Education Above All in Washington, DC emphasising the need for quality education during and after times of conflict and insecurity to ensure a stable future.
“The Right to Education” seminar, held at Georgetown Universitys Riggs Library, explored barriers to education and how they are being addressed, as well as education as the foundation of peaceful societies and the importance of protecting education during conflict.
Along with H H Sheikha Moza, the panel featured distinguished speakers UN SDG Advocate Dr. Alaa Murabit and Executive Director of Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace, and Security Ambassador Melanne Verveer, in a discussion moderated by Georgetown University President John DeGoia.
H H Sheikha Moza focused on the importance of protecting education in times of crisis, viewing it as essential in preparing future generations to break the cycle of conflict and rebuild their communities for lasting growth and stability.
“Unfortunately, education is the first victim when it comes to times of war,” said Her Highness. “During conflict, education provides normalcy, continuity and sustainability,” Her Highness said. She continued, “Education in post conflict allows young educated leaders to come back to their countries and break the cycle of violence. They can rebuild their countries and redesign new sets of values.”
She also called onto universities to take the lead in creating innovative solutions to ensure the protection of education for all regardless of fragile situations. “There is no one size fits all solutions. There are different barriers to education in times of conflict. We need to be creative and innovative in these solutions,” she added. H H Sheikha Moza met with Georgetown University President, John DeGoia.

شاركت صاحبة السمو الشيخة موزا بنت ناصر، رئيس مجلس إدارة مؤسسة التعليم فوق الجميع وعضو مجموعة المدافعين عن أهداف التنمية المستدامة للأمم المتحدة، صباح اليوم في جلسة نقاشية بعنوان “التعليم حق للجميع” نظمتها جامعة جورجتاون بالتعاون مع مؤسسة “التعليم فوق الجميع” بمقر الجامعة في مدينة واشنطن.
تهدف الجلسة إلى مناقشة التحديات التي يواجهها التعليم وكيفية علاجها، بالإضافة إلى دور الجامعات في ابتكار الحلول لمواجهة هذه التحديات وحماية التعليم وقت الأزمات.
شاركت في الجلسة النقاشية، الدكتورة آلاء مرابط عضو مجموعة المدافعين عن أهداف التنمية المستدامة، والسفيرة ميلاني فيرفير المديرة التنفيذية لمعهد جورجتاون للمرأة والسلام والأمن.
وركزت صاحبة السمو في نقاشها، على أهمية حماية التعليم في أوقات الأزمات، كأمر جوهري لتأهيل أجيال المستقبل لكسر دوامة النزاعات وإعادة بناء مجتمعاتهم على أسس الاستقرار والنمو المستدام.
وفي هذا السياق قالت سموها: “مما يدعو للأسف أن التعليم بات الضحية الأولى في أوقات الحرب… بينما للتعليم القدرة على توفير الحياة الطبيعية والاستمرارية والاستدامة أثناء النزاعات”.
وأضافت “بعد انتهاء النزاعات يسمح التعليم للقياديين المتعلمين الشباب بالعودة إلى أوطانهم وكسر دوامة العنف، حيث يعيدون بناء بلدانهم كما يعيدون تصميم مجموعة جديدة من القيم”.
كما دعت صاحبة السمو الجامعات إلى أخذ زمام المبادرة وإيجاد حلول مبتكرة تضمن حماية التعليم.
وقالت سموها: “ليس هناك مقياس واحد لجميع الحلول، فالتعليم في أوقات الأزمات يواجه عقبات وصعوبات متعددة، ويجب أن نكون مبدعين ومبتكرين لهذه الحلول”.
كما اجتمعت صاحبة السمو الشيخة موزا قبل الجلسة، بالدكتور جون دوجويا رئيس جامعة جورجتاون حيث تمت مناقشة أهمية دور الجامعات في ابتكار حلول لحماية التعليم في أوقات الأزمات.
