Sheikh Joaan: Doha occupies prominent place in global sports arena

HE the President of Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC), Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad al-Thani, Chairman of the organising committee of the IAAF World Athletics Championships Doha 2019, said that Doha has hosted many continental and international events and tournaments for decades, making it a prominent place in the global sports arena, and enabling its cadres to acquire a variety of experiences in the organisation of major tournaments, thus enabling Doha to become one of the most important sports capitals in the world.

This is because of the importance of sport as one of the factors influencing the pillars of the Qatar National Vision 2030, he added.

Addressing the opening ceremony of the IAAF World Athletics Championships, he said Qatar is welcoming today the world in this great forum, which emphasises the role of sport in promoting the values of friendship and peace among peoples, and allows all to watch this 10-day big sporting event, in which the world’s elite athletes are competing.

Since the announcement of its hosting of the World Athletics Championship, Qatar started early preparation through the co-operation of all sectors in order to organise this big event, under the guidance of its leaders and officials in order to ensure the success of the tournament in the best manner that reflects the status of Qatar in the global sports, he added.

Thanks to the efforts of its citizens and residents of different nationalities, Doha has launched this major tournament, he stressed.

Concluding his speech, HE Sheikh Joaan thanked all those who have collaborated with the organising committee in preparing for this event, and thanked the volunteers for their response and dedication to the success of a championship that will remain in the memory of “our generations” an event with a message of “ambition without borders” from the Middle East to the world.

For his part, the President of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), Lord Sebastian Coe, said athletics is one of only two truly global sports and “we are proud to be the biggest single sporting event in 2019.”

“I would like to thank our generous and gracious hosts His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani for making available the resources and facilities of this city and country.”

He also extended his thank to HE Sheikh Joaan for his “support and consistent interest in our sport”.

“Thank you also to Vice President Dahlan Al Hamad. You have put together a young, dynamic, talented team and you have guided them well. You are a great pride to the people of Qatar and you have brought great pride to our sport. Thank you!”

“As a fan I appreciate the diligence, concentration, determination and dedication of the athletes that compete in our showcase event, The World Championships. As a Global sport President, I understand what it takes to deliver a world sports event and appreciate the enthusiasm and passion that we see time and again from the fans of our sport and everyone involved behind the scenes.”

أكد سعادة الشيخ جوعان بن حمد آل ثاني رئيس اللجنة الأولمبية القطرية – رئيس اللجنة المنظمة العليا لبطولة العالم لألعاب القوى – الدوحة 2019 أن مدينة الدوحة قد شهدت استضافة العديد من الأحداث والبطولات القارية والعالمية على مدى عقود من الزمن، جعلتها تتبوّأ مكانة متميزة في الساحة الرياضية العالمية، ومكنت كوادرها البشرية من اكتساب خبرات واسعة ومتنوعة في تنظيم كبرى البطولات، وتصبح الدوحة بذلك واحدة من أهم عواصم الرياضة في العالم، وذلك لما تمثله الرياضة من أهمية كونها إحدى العوامل المؤثرة في ركائز رؤية قطر الوطنية 2030.

وقال سعادته في افتتاح بطولة العالم لألعاب القوى الدوحة 2019 اليوم” ها نحن اليوم على الموعد، حيث يتجدد اللقاء في دولة قطر، لتجمع العالم في هذا المحفل الكبير، الذي يؤكد دور الرياضة في تعزيز نشر قيم الصداقة والسلام بين الشعوب، ولكي نعيش معاً وقائع هذا الحدث الرياضي الكبير على مدى عشرة أيام، ونقطف خلالها ثمار جهود نخبة من رياضيي العالم عبر بطولة العالم لألعاب القوى- الدوحة 2019.”

وأضاف أنه منذ أن حظيت دولة قطر بشرف استضافة بطولة العالم لألعاب القوى، بدأت الدولة في الإعداد المبكر والتحضير بتعاون كافة قطاعاتها، لتنظيم هذا الحدث الكبير، بتوجيهات سديدة من قادتها ومسؤوليها، ضماناً لإخراج البطولة بالصورة المثالية التي تعكس مكانة قطر على الصعيد الرياضي العالمي.

وأكد سعادته أن الدوحة اليوم بفضل جهود أبنائها من مواطنين ومقيمين من مختلف الجنسيات، جاهزة لانطلاق فعاليات هذه البطولة الكبرى التي يشارك فيها أبطال أم الألعاب حول العالم.

وقال سعادة الشيخ جوعان بن حمد آل ثاني رئيس اللجنة الأولمبية القطرية – رئيس اللجنة المنظمة العليا لبطولة العالم لألعاب القوى – الدوحة 2019 في ختام كلمته “أود أن أعبّر بالأصالة عن نفسي، وبالنيابة عن اللجنة المنظمة، عن تقديرنا لجميع الجهات التي تعاونت معنا في الإعداد لهذا الحدث، وللمتطوعين على استجابتهم وتفانيهم من أجل إنجاح بطولة ستظل في ذاكرة أجيالنا حدثًا يحمل في طياته رسالة “طموح بلا حدود” من الشرق الأوسط إلى العالم.

من جانبه أكد اللورد سبستيان كو رئيس الاتحاد الدولي لألعاب القوى أن ألعاب القوى تعتبر واحدة من أعرق حدثين رياضيين عالميين على الإطلاق معبراً عن فخرة بأنها البطولة الرياضية الأكبر لعام 2019.

وقال في الكلمة الافتتاحية لبطولة العالم لألعاب القوى الدوحة 2019 اليوم “أود أن أتوجه بالشكر للمضيفين الكرام…ولحضرة صاحب السمو الشيخ تميم بن حمد آل ثاني أمير البلاد المفدى على تسخير الموارد والمنشآت في الدولة من أجل هذا الحدث”.

كما وجه كل الشكر لسعادة الشيخ جوعان بن حمد آل ثاني رئيس اللجنة الأولمبية القطرية – رئيس اللجنة المنظمة العليا لبطولة العالم لألعاب القوى – الدوحة 2019 على قيادة اللجنة المنظمة وعلى دعمه واهتمامه المتواصل برياضة ألعاب القوى .

وشكر أيضاً سعادة السيد دحلان الحمد نائب رئيس اللجنة المنظمة العليا لبطولة العالم لألعاب القوى (الدوحة 2019) على قيادة فريق رائع من الشباب الطموح والمجتهد الذين قدم لهم التوجيه الأمثل، وقال “أنت نموذج يفخر به شعب قطر…ونتشرف بأنك جزء من رياضتنا…فشكراً لك”.

وأضاف رئيس الاتحاد الدولي “كمشجع لألعاب القوى.. أقدر الاجتهاد والتركيز والتصميم والتفاني الذي يبذله الرياضيون حيث يتنافسون في بطولتنا الاستثنائية، البطولة العالمية..وكرئيس لهذه الرياضة العالمية…أتفهم ما يتطلبه الأمر لتنظيم بطولة رياضية على مستوى العالم…وأقدر ذلك الحماس والاهتمام الصادقين الذين نراهما ينبعان عاماً بعد عام من عشاق ومشجعي رياضتنا… ومن كل من يعمل خلف الكواليس”.

وفي ختام كلمته أعرب عن تمنياته بالتوفيق لجميع الرياضيين الذين سيقدمون أقصى ما لديهم.. وعبر عن تمنياته للجميع بالنجاح والتفوق في تحقيق أحلامهم وطموحاتهم، متوجهاً بالشكر للمشجعين الذين بتشجيعهم وهتافهم يدفعون الرياضيين لتحقيق ما هو أبعد مما يطمحون.

كما توجه بالامتنان والتقدير للمتطوعين والمنظمين “الذين من دونهم لا يمكننا ببساطة تنظيم بطولة بهذا المستوى”.
