Qatar Charity’s solar-powered wells has brought new life to drought-hit lands in Gaza benefiting over 300 farmers. The project wroth QR819,419 aimed at rehabilitating agricultural lands and plant fruit trees in the lands of affected farmers.

This project included supporting Palestinian farmers living in the affected areas of the Gaza Strip by rehabilitating 7,750 dunums of land allocated for agriculture.

Mohamed Abu Haloub, director of the Qatar Charity office in the Gaza Strip said that the project helped operate 44 water wells to irrigate over 7,660 dunums of lands belonging to affected farmers. He said that low-voltage power grid was installed in remote areas, and six transformers to provide the necessary electricity. A farmer, Mohammed Al Masdar could not control himself, when he found that his farmland and dozens of other lands get water supplies from the solar-powered well, without the need for electricity and fuel. “All praise is due to Allah, we no longer need anything to revive and cultivate this land”, said Mohammad Al Masdar.

If Qatar Charity did not implement a project to operate solar-powered agricultural wells within the comprehensive ‘7,750 Dunums of Agricultural Land Rehabilitation Project’, the hardship of the farmer Al Masdar and other famers continued in the central Gaza Strip governorate, as they were suffering electricity shortages, in addition to the inability to provide fuel for well pumps.

The farmer Al Masdar said that he has been suffering for over a decade because of the regular power outage, which prevented the operation of the pumps for irrigation. When Qatar Charity provided solar power for wells earlier this year, farmers no longer have to exert more effort for irrigation.

Farmers in these areas were dependent on electric generators to operate the pumps. Despite poverty and destitution, they, therefore, had to purchase fuel for the generators. When they became unable to purchase fuel owing to difficult economic conditions, the lands have become vulnerable to drought.

لم يتمالك المزارع محمد المصدر نفسه، حينما وجد نفسه يشغل البئر الزراعية التي تمدّ أرضه وعشرات المزارع الأخرى بالطاقة الشمسية، عوضاً عن الكهرباء والوقود. وقال فرحاً بعد أن رفع أكفه للسماء شاكراً: «الحمد لله أننا لم نعد بحاجة إلى شيء من الإمكانات لإحياء هذه الأرض وزراعتها». ولولا تدخّل «قطر الخيرية» في قطاع غزة وتنفيذها مشروع تشغيل الآبار الزراعية بالطاقة الشمسية، ضمن مشروع أعم وأشمل «مشروع تأهيل أراضي زراعية 7750 دونماً»، لاستمرت معاناة المُزارع المصدر وغيره ممن يعانون شحّ الكهرباء والعجز عن توفير الوقود المشغل لمضخات الآبار في المحافظة الوسطى من قطاع غزة.

ويقول المزراع المصدر إنه يعاني منذ أكثر من عشر سنوات، بفعل عدم انتظام وصول التيار الكهربائي، الأمر الذي كان يحول دون تشغيل المضخات اللازمة لعملية الري. ومنذ أن قامت «قطر الخيرية»، مطلع العام الحالي، بتوفير الطاقة الشمسية المشغلة للآبار، لم يعد المزارعون بحاجة إلى بذل مزيد من الجهد والكد والإنفاق.

وكان المزارعون يعتمدون في هذه المناطق المحاذية للحدود مع الاحتلال، على شراء الوقود المشغل للمولدات الكهربائية من أجل تشغيل المضخات، رغم حالة الفقر والعوز، وبعدما عجزوا عن توفيره نتيجة الأوضاع الاقتصادية الصعبة، أصبحت الأراضي عرضة للجفاف.

واشتمل هذا المشروع على دعم المزارعين الفلسطينيين الذين يسكنون في المناطق المتضررة في قطاع غزة، من خلال تأهيل 7750 دونماً من الأراضي الزراعية المخصصة للزراعة.

تحدّث المهندس محمد أبو حلوب، مدير مكتب «قطر الخيرية» في قطاع غزة، عن مكونات المشروع وأبرز مخرجاته على النحو التالي:

التكلفة والمستفيدون:

بلغت التكلفة الإجمالية للمشروع 819,419 ريالاً، ويستفيد منه 300 مزارع بشكل مباشر.

الهدف:

تشغيل 44 بئر مياه لري ما يزيد على 7660 دونماً زراعياً من أراضي المزارعين المتضررين، وتأهيل 213 دونماً زراعياً وزراعتها بأشتال الشجر المثمر لمزارعين متضرري.

المكونات الفرعية:

تركيب شبكة كهرباء ضغط منخفض في المناطق النائية، وستة محولات كهربائية من أجل توفير الكهرباء اللازمة.
