Doha Women Forum 2019 to shed light on gender balance

Doha Women Forum 2019, to be held on September 29, will highlight why gender balance is vital for a healthy and thriving society.

The details of the conference were announced during a press conference in Doha on Sunday. Conchita Ponce, Doha Women Forum and Future 318 founder; Ibtihaj al-Ahmadani, Qatar Chamber board member; Amel al-Aathem, board member, Qatar Businesswomen Association; Luigia Ingianni, commissioner, Employment Standard Office, Qatar Financial Centre; Ahmed Azmy, marketing manager, Mercedes-Benz; and Ammar Samad, manager, Westin Doha Hotel & Spa.

The third edition of the forum is being held under the International Women’s Day theme ‘Balance for Better’. The forum will have the participation of several prominent members of society who will speak on the issue of gender balance, share their experiences and offer strategies for gender parity.

Underscoring the importance of forum, al-Ahmadani said no efforts are spared to support all initiatives for empowering woman in the society.

“Qatar Chamber strongly supports home-based businesses which are owned by Qatari women and Qatar Camber has stimulated productive families by providing them free spaces in the Made in Qatar expo and other exhibitions Qatar Camber participates in,” said al-Ahmadani.

According to al-Ahmadani, International Chamber of Commerce Qatar (ICC Qatar) has established the National Home-based Businesses Programme to support businesswomen, and promoted businesswomen’s projects at the World Chamber Congress recently in Brazil.

Al-Ahmadani stressed the keenness of providing sponsorship to the forum to highlight successes made by Qatari woman and noted that it offers a good opportunity for experience exchange and information between participants.

The forum offers a unique platform for examining issues and challenges facing woman everywhere and pursuing efforts aiming at enhancing the role of Qatari woman and businessmen in the society and their contribution in the development process.

“Qatar is a fast growing country and has implemented several women’s empowerment programmes. It is a great achievement that the country has got a lot of women leaders. The number of women in leadership positions are far greater than many of the countries including several European countries,” noted Ingianni.

She also highlighted the steps taken by Qatar Financial Centre to offer more opportunities and empower women employees who constitute about one third of the total employees of the organisation. The speakers this year include government spokespeople, dignitaries, business leaders, sports representatives, officers of the state as well as advocates of social causes.

“Gender inequality is truly one of the evils of society as it not just affects women but the community at large by restricting economic and social growth. Doha Women Forum was created with the aim of empowering and educating women about their rights and encouraging them to be the best they can be. We would like to invite women to be a part of the forum to understand the importance of gender balance and learn how to handle bias in their homes, workplaces or society,” explained Ponce.

The event is organised by Future 318 (Faisal Al Suwaidi for Events), in partnership with Qatar Businesswomen Association and She’s Mercedes as strategic partner. It will be held at The Westin Doha Hotel and Spa on September 29. It will consist of inspiring talks, group discussions and workshops, as well as an interactive session to facilitate networking.

North Oil Company is one of the key sponsors of the forum and a strong supporter of gender parity.

This year’s event is also supported by Qatar Chamber, ICC Qatar, Qatar Financial Centre and the embassy of Argentina.

تسلّط الدورة الثالثة من منتدى «سيدات الدوحة» على قضية أهمية التوازن بين الجنسين لمجتمع صحي ومزدهر، وذلك تحت شعار «التوازن من أجل الأفضل»، وتستوحي هذه النسخة من المنتدى من «اليوم العالمي للمرأة».

خلال المؤتمر الصحافي -الذي عقد أمس للإعلان عن الحدث- أكدت السيدة ابتهاج الأحمداني -عضو مجلس إدارة غرفة قطر- أهمية منتدى «سيدات الدوحة»، والذي ينطلق بالدوحة يوم 29 سبتمبر الحالي بالتعاون مع غرفة قطر، وغرفة التجارة الدولية قطر.

وأشارت إلى أن غرفة قطر، وكذلك الغرفة الدولية قطر لا تدخران جهداً في دعم ومساندة أي مبادرات أو فعاليات تدعم تمكين المرأة في المجتمع، وذلك استناداً إلى دورها في مجتمع الأعمال القطري.

وزادت: «فمثلاً، غرفة قطر تعتبر إحدى الجهات الداعمة للمشروعات المنزلية التي تقوم بها الأسر المنتجة، وهي في معظمها مشروعات صغيرة ومتناهية الصغر لسيدات قطريات».

وأضافت: «فالغرفة قامت بتشجيع هذه الفئة، ومنحت الأسر المنتجة مساحات مجانية في معرض «صنع في قطر»، وفي المعارض التي تشارك بها «الغرفة» خارجياً، وذلك دعماً للمرأة، ولسيدة الأعمال القطرية، في حين قامت الغرفة الدولية قطر بإنشاء منصة للبرنامج الوطني للمشاريع المنزلية، وقامت بالترويج لمشروعات سيدات الأعمال خلال مشاركتها في مؤتمر الغرف العالمية الذي عقد مؤخراً في البرازيل».

وأوضحت الأحمداني أن هذا المنتدى يعتبر فرصة قيّمة لإبراز المرأة القطرية والنجاحات التي حققتها، والمساهمة في تبادل الخبرات، والمعارف بين المشاركات، وإثراء آفاق التعاون».

من جانبها، قالت أمل العاثم -عضو مجلس إدارة رابطة سيدات الأعمال القطريات-: «نحرص في الرابطة على المشاركة في الفعاليات التي تعنى بالمرأة مثل هذا الملتقى، والذي سيناقش مواضيع عديدة مهمة، كما أتوجه بالدعوة إلى كل الشركات والسيدات للمشاركة في إنجاح هذه الجهود، ولدعم هذه المساعي الطيّبة التي سوف تمهّد الطريق للأجيال المقبلة من الرائدات والسيدات القياديات لخدمة هذا الوطن الحبيب».

سيتحدث خلال المنتدى نخبة من أفراد المجتمع البارزين حول قضية التوازن بين الجنسين، ما سيسمح بتبادل خبراتهم، وتقديم استراتيجيات لتحقيق المساواة في هذه القضية.
