Clarification from Ministry about non-halal high protein products

Doha: Ministry of Public Health made it clear today that the high protein bars not conforming to the requirements of Muslims as they contain a bovine protein from non-halal source are not imported by any authorized dealers in Qatar.
Ministry also clarified that these products differ in composition from the regular products offered in the local market under the same brand name – Mars, Bounty, Snickers and Milky Way.
The Ministry stated that the clarification is in response to what has been shared in social media in this regard.
There were posts shared on social media from yesterday about the recall of Mars, Bounty, Snickers, and Milky Way protein bars from the market due to them not confirming to halal requirements.
The ministry confirmed that halal requirements in all imported foods are confirmed through certificates from accredited centers and through special laboratory analysis.
The Ministry of Health urged everyone not to buy the infringing products through Internet or from personal sources as they do not meet the requirements of halal.
The ministry explained that as a precautionary measure, it directed its inspectors to make sure that the markets are free from the infringing items and circulate the notice to all ports to not allow their entry even in non-commercial quantities.
أوضحت وزارة الصحة العامة اليوم، أن منتجات شوكولاتة بار عالية البروتين (protein bar) غير المستوفية لمتطلبات الحلال (لاحتوائها على بروتين بقري من مصدر غير الحلال) لا يتم استيرادها من قبل الوكيل المعتمد في دولة قطر، وتختلف في تركيبتها عن المنتجات العادية المعروضة بالسوق المحلي والتي تحمل نفس العلامات التجارية “مارس” و”باونتي” و”سنيكرز” و”ميلكي وي”.
وذكرت وزارة الصحة أن هذا التوضيح يأتي ردا على ما أثير في وسائل التواصل الاجتماعي بهذا الخصوص.
وأكدت الوزارة أن متطلبات الحلال في الأغذية المستوردة يتم التأكد منها من خلال شهادات من مراكز معتمدة لديها ومن خلال تحاليل مخبرية خاصة.
وأهابت وزارة الصحة بالجميع بعدم شراء المنتجات المخالفة عن طريق الإنترنت أو من خلال مصادر شخصية لعدم استيفائها لمتطلبات الحلال.
وأوضحت الوزارة أنه ضمن الإجراءات الاحترازية فقد قامت بتوجيه مفتشيها للتأكد من خلو الأسواق من الأصناف المخالفة والتعميم على المنافذ بعدم السماح بإدخالها ولو كانت بكميات غير تجارية.
