Arab girls invited to compete in digital Hackathon
دعوة الفتيات العربيات للتنافس في هاكاثون رقمي
Arab girls in Qatar will be given the chance to prove their digital innovation skills in an exciting competition where the shortlisted projects will represent Qatar in the regional finals in Egypt later this year, as well as present their ideas at QITCOM 2019.
The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MOTC), in collaboration with Arab Women in Computing (ArabWIC), is inviting entries from Qatari and Arab girls in the country aged 15-22 to the ‘Girls Can Innovate’ Hackathon to be held on Saturday and Sunday from 8am to 6pm at MOTC Digital Incubation Center (DIC)’s Headquarters, Al-Nasr Tower (B), fifth floor. The competition is aimed at stimulating innovation and creativity in girls to produce digital solutions to problems facing their communities in specific areas.
The competition in Qatar will focus on seven categories: Fintech Applications, E-agriculture, E-health and Smart Water Management, Digital Services, Road Safety, and Rural Productivity. By providing the invaluable opportunity of taking part in the Hackathon, MOTC hopes to give girls the possibility of improving their programming and technical skills as well as the ability to work in intense environments, while collaborating with other participants to achieve a common goal.
All shortlisted projects will also be mentored by experts on pitch presentations. The selected participants will be invited to present their projects in front of an eminent panel of VIP judges at QITCOM 2019 to decide on the winners. The winning team will be awarded a prize.
The competition comes as part of the International Girls Day 2019 celebration, an initiative launched by the International Telecoms Union (ITU) in 2011 to enable girls around the world to leverage their interest in ICT and pursue studies and careers in STEM fields.

أعلنت وزارة المواصلات والاتصالات، بالتعاون مع منظمة المرأة العربية في الحوسبة عن فتح باب التقدم للفتيات القطريات والفتيات العربيات المقيمات في دولة قطر اللاتي تتراوح أعمارهن بين 15 و22 عاما للمشاركة في هاكاثون “قادرات على الابتكار الرقمي” الذي يعقد يومي السبت والأحد الموافق 14-15 سبتمبر بمركز حاضنات الأعمال الرقمية بالدوحة.
وتسعى المسابقة إلى تحفيز روح الابتكار والإبداع لدى الفتيات العربيات، وتشجيعهن على إنتاج حلول رقمية إبداعية لحل المشكلات التي تواجه مجتمعاتهن.
وسيركز الهاكاثون في دولة قطر على سبع فئات: تطبيقات التكنولوجيا المالية، وتطبيقات التحول الرقمي في الزراعة، وخدمات الصحة الإلكترونية، نظم المياه الذكية، والخدمات الرقمية، وتطبيقات الأمان والحماية على الطرق، وتطبيقات التحول الرقمي للمناطق النائية.
ومن خلال إتاحة هذه الفرصة للالتحاق بالمسابقة، تهدف وزارة المواصلات والاتصالات إلى توفير فرصة لصقل وإثراء مهارات البرمجة وغيرها من المهارات التقنية لدى الفتيات، فضلا عن تعزيز قدراتهن وجهوزيتهن للعمل في بيئات عمل صعبة من خلال التعاون مع مشاركات أخريات لتحقيق هدف مشترك.
وتأتي هذه المسابقة في إطار احتفالات اليوم العالمي للفتاة 2019، وهي مبادرة أطلقها الاتحاد الدولي للاتصالات عام 2011 لتمكين الفتيات حول العالم من تعزيز اهتمامهن في مجال تكنولوجيا المعلومات والاتصالات وزيادة شغفهن بالدراسة والعمل في مجالات العلوم والتكنولوجيا والهندسة والرياضيات، والحصول على وظيفة بها في المستقبل.
ويمكن للفتيات القطريات والفتيات العربيات المقيمات في دولة قطر التقدم لهذه المسابقة. وسيتم اختيار أفضل المشروعات ودعوة صاحباتها لتقديمها أمام لجنة تحكيمية تضم خبراء في المجال أثناء مؤتمر ومعرض قطر لتكنولوجيا المعلومات لهذا العام (كيتكوم 2019) المقرر إقامته خلال الفترة من 29 أكتوبر إلى 1 نوفمبر 2019 في مركز قطر الوطني للمؤتمرات.
