234 participants to compete in Sheikh Hamad Award for Translation and International Understanding 2019

The Board of Trustees of Sheikh Hamad Award for Translation and International Understanding announced that the Steering Committee has completed the preliminary screening of the nominations submitted for the award in its fifth season for the year 2019.
The nominations reached a total of 234 participants representing individuals and institutions involved in translation, the Committee said.
Media spokesperson for the Award Dr. Hanan Al Fayyad said in a statement Sunday that the participation increased in this year’s edition by 15.3%, bringing the total nominations to 234. The participations represent thirty-four Arab and foreign countries: Qatar, Iraq, Kuwait, Oman, Yemen, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Palestine, Egypt, Sudan, Libya, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Uzbekistan, India, Pakistan, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Portugal, Brazil, Mozambique, Indonesia, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Somalia, Kenya and South Africa.
Dr. Al Fayyad noted that the Steering Committee has commenced its work in handing over the works to the jury from around the Arab world and the world, and the results will be announced at the ceremony honoring the winners of the Sheikh Hamad Award for Translation and International Understanding on December 8, 2019.
Founded in 2015, Sheikh Hamad Award for Translation and International Understanding seeks to honor translators and acknowledge their role in strengthening the bonds of friendship and cooperation amongst peoples and nations of the world, reward merit and excellence, encourage creativity, uphold the highest moral and ethical standards, and spread the values of diversity, pluralism and openness. The Award also aspires to inculcate a culture of knowledge and dialogue, promote Arab and Islamic culture and develop international understanding.
In its fifth edition for the year 2019, the Award selected Russian language as the second major language alongside English, with five new languages being selected in the achievement category; including Uzbek, Portuguese, Bahasa Indonesia, Somali and Malayalam. There are also five categories this year, which are: Translation from Arabic into English, Translation from English into Arabic, Translation from Arabic into Russian, Translation from Russian into Arabic, and an Achievement Award. The total amount of the Award is $2 million divided into three categories – translations awards, achievement and the award for achievement in the main two languages.
أعلن مجلس أمناء جائزة الشيخ حمد للترجمة والتفاهم الدولي، أمس، عن انتهاء لجنة تسيير الجائزة من عملية الفرز الأولي للترشيحات التي تقدّمت للجائزة في موسمها الخامس لعام 2019.
وكشفت اللجنة أن عدد المشاركات بلغ 234 مشاركة، تمثّل أفراداً ومؤسسات معنية بالترجمة. وقالت الدكتورة حنان الفياض، الناطق الإعلامي باسم جائزة الشيخ حمد للترجمة والتفاهم الدولي: «إن المشاركة زادت هذا العام عن الدورة السابقة، بنسبة 3,15% أي بما يعادل 31 مشاركة، بحيث بلغ مجموع الترشيحات لهذا العام 234 مشاركة، ممثلة أربعاً وثلاثين دولة عربية وأجنبية؛ وهي: (قطر، العراق، الكويت، عُمان، اليمن ، سوريا، لبنان، الأردن، فلسطين، مصر، السودان، ليبيا، تونس، الجزائر، المغرب، روسيا، أوكرانيا، روسيا البيضاء، أوزبكستان، الهند، باكستان، ألمانيا، سويسرا، النمسا، البرتغال، البرازيل، موزمبيق، إندونيسيا، المملكة المتحدة، الولايات المتحدة، كندا، الصومال، كينيا، جنوب إفريقيا).
وضحت الدكتورة حنان الفياض أن لجنة تسيير الجائزة باشرت عملها في تسليم الأعمال للجان التحكيم من أنحاء الوطن العربي والعالم، وستعلن النتائج في حفل تكريم الفائزين بجائزة الشيخ حمد للترجمة والتفاهم الدولي في 8 ديسمبر 2019. وتسعى الجائزة، التي تأسست عام 2015، إلى تكريم المترجمين وتقدير دورهم في تمتين أواصر الصداقة والتعاون بين أمم العالم وشعوبه، وتشجيع الإبداع، وترسيخ القيم السامية، وإشاعة التنوع والتعددية والانفتاح، كما تطمح إلى تأصيل ثقافة المعرفة والحوار، ونشر الثقافة العربية والإسلامية، وتنمية التفاهم الدولي.
يشار إلى أن الجائزة قد اعتمدت في دورتها الخامسة لعام 2019، ويبلغ مجموع قيمتها المالية مليوني دولار أمريكي، توزّع على الفئات التالية؛ الفئة الأولى: جوائز الترجمة، وتشمل الترجمة من اللغة العربية إلى اللغة الإنجليزية، والترجمة إلى اللغة العربية من اللغة الإنجليزية، والترجمة من اللغة العربية إلى اللغة الروسية، والترجمة إلى اللغة العربية من اللغة الروسية. أما الفئة الثانية فتشمل جوائز الإنجاز، وتمنح لمجموعة أعمال مترجمة من اللغات الخمس المختارة هذا العام إلى اللغة العربية ومن اللغة العربية إلى تلك اللغات، وهي: الصومالية، والأوزبكية، والبرتغالية، والمالايالامية، وبهاسا إندونيسيا، فيما تخصص الفئة الثالثة بجوائز الإنجاز التي تُمنح لمجموع الإنجاز باللغتين الرئيسيتين الإنجليزية والروسية.
