MOPH reveals vaccine’s immunity duration, validity of vaccination card, and when to ease restrictions

Doha: Dr. Soha Al-Bayat, Head of the Immunization Department at the Health Protection and Communicable Disease Control Department at the Ministry of Health revealed that the Pfizer vaccine against Coronavirus, according to its manufacturers, gives immunity for a period of 6 months. But she clarified – in an interview with Qatar TV yesterday’s evening, Monday – that manufacturers are still monitoring this immunity in the clinical stages and found that the antibodies are still in those who got the vaccine after 6 months, and the duration of immunity (coverage period) may be a year or two.

Dr. Al-Bayat said that those who received the two doses of the Covid 19 vaccine will be given a “Covid-19 vaccine” vaccination card, officially sealed in Arabic and English, containing all the details on the date of the first and second dose, explaining that there is “MyHealth” website to copy and print the card if it is lost.

The head of the vaccination department at the Ministry of Health revealed that the effectiveness of the vaccine card is the effectiveness of the vaccination itself, explaining that, for example, if Pfizer said that the period of immunity against Coronavirus is one year, then this means that the vaccine card is also valid for a year.

She said that there is a high response from the community, who received the first dose of the Coronavirus vaccine, to obtain the second dose, noting that these are the elderly, people with chronic diseases, and workers at the Ministry of Health on the front lines to combat Coronavirus.

Al-Bayat added that the cases who have missed the date of the second dose by two or three days are numbered, because there are those who forgot the date and this is normal, and there are some who had a high temperature or were sick, and we warned them in advance to postpone the date of obtaining the vaccine, but no one’s completely fallen behind ion receiving the second dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.

And she stressed that there is no liberation from the precautionary measures after taking the vaccine and the reason is that if we want to reach adequate immunity, 75% of the targeted people must receive the vaccine in order to achieve herd immunity, and this does not mean that there will be no infection or prevention among people, but the virus’ strength to infect is weak because the majority of people have antibodies to protect them.

She added: From here until this is achieved, the precautionary measures should not be lifted, and the vaccine is 95% effective, as it is possible that the person was from the 5% or 95% and did not have sufficient immunity to protect him with 100% from the disease.

We must abide to all the precautionary measures as we said that before launching the vaccination campaign, the world must reach high immunity coverage in order to gradually ease restrictions, and we must wait for the precautionary measures to be eased.

الدوحة: كشفت الدكتورة سهى البيات، رئيس قسم التطعيمات في إدارة حماية الصحة ومكافحة الأمراض الانتقالية بوزارة الصحة عن أن لقاح فايزر ضد كورونا حسب الشركات المصنعة له يعطي مناعة لمدة 6 شهور.

لكنها أوضحت – في مقابلة مع تليفزيون قطر مساء يوم الاثنين – أن الشركات المصنعة مازالت ترصد هذه المناعة في المراحل السريرية ووجدت أن الأجسام المضادة ما زالت لدى من حصلوا على اللقاح بعد 6 شهور، وقد تكون مدة المناعة (مدة التغطية) سنة أو سنتين .

وقالت الدكتورة البيات إن من حصلوا على جرعتي لقاح كوفيد 19 سيتم منحهم بطاقة تطعيم “لقاح كوفيد 19” مختومه بشكل رسمي باللغتين العربية والإنجليزية تحتوي على جميع التفاصيل بتاريخ الجرعة الأولى والثانية، موضحة أن هناك موقع “صحة” لنسخ البطاقة وطباعتها إذا تم فقدانها.

وكشفت رئيس قسم التطعيمات بوزارة الصحة عن أن فعالية بطاقة اللقاح من فعالية التطعيم نفسه، موضحة أنه على سبيل المثال إذا قالت شركة فايزر إن مدة التغطية ضد كورونا لعام واحد فهذا يعني أن بطاقة اللقاح صالحة أيضا لمدة عام .

وقالت إن هناك استجابة عالية من المجتمع، ممن حصلوا على الجرعة الأولى من لقاح كورونا، للحصول على الجرعة الثانية، مشيرة إلى أن هؤلاء من كبار السن وأصحاب الأمراض المزمنة والعاملين بوزارة الصحة في الصفوف الأمامية لمكافحة كورونا.

وأضافت البيات أن هناك حالات تعد على الأصابع تخلفت عن موعد الجرعة الثانية بيومين أو ثلاثة، لأن هناك من نسي الموعد وهذا طبيعي وهناك البعض كان لديه ارتفاع في الحرارة أو مريض ونبهنا على هؤلاء مسبقا تأجيل موعد الحصول على اللقاح، لكن ليس هناك من تخلفوا بشكل تام عن تلقي الجرعة الثانية من لقاح كوفيد 19.

وشددت على أنه ليس هناك تحرر من الإجراءات الاحترازية بعد أخذ اللقاح والسبب أننا لو أردنا الوصول إلى المناعة الكافية يجب أن يحصل 75 % من الناس المستهدفة على اللقاح لكي تتحقق مناعة القطيع وليس هذا معناه أنه لن يكون هناك عدوى أو منعها بين الناس لكن قوة الفيروس على العدوى ضعيفة لأن أغلبية الناس لديها أجسام مضادة لتحميهم .

وأضافت: من هنا إلى أن يتحقق ذلك لا يجب ترك الإجراءات الاحترازية واللقاح فعال بنسبة 95% فمن الممكن أن يكون الشخص من نسبة الـ 5% أو من نسبة الـ 95% ولم تتكون لديه مناعة كافية لتحميه بنسبة 100% من المرض .

وعلينا الحرص على جميع الإجراءات الاحترازية وقلنا ذلك قبل إطلاق حملة التطعيم ويجب أن يصل العالم إلى تغطية عالية لكي نخفف القيود تدريجيا، وعلينا الانتظار لتخفيف الإجرءات الاحترازية .
