Qatar Investment Authority leads $150 million investment round in Byju’s, Indian learning app
جهاز قطر للاستثمار يقود استثماراً بقيمة 150 مليون دولار في شركة تعليمية هندية
Bengaluru: Byju’s, an Indian learning app, announced today that it has received an investment of $150 million led by Qatar Investment Authority (QIA), the sovereign wealth fund of Qatar. This round also includes the participation from Owl Ventures, a leading investor in education technology and this is their first-ever investment in an Indian start-up.
This new round will support Byju’s aggressive plans of international market expansion and creation of learning products for students across the globe.
Byju Raveendran, Founder & CEO, Byju’s- The Learning App, said, “We are happy to have strong partners like QIA and Owl Ventures on board with us. Investment from prominent sovereign and pension funds validates our strong business fundamentals. Indian ed-tech firms attracting interest from eminent investors demonstrates that India is pioneering the digital learning space globally.
He further added, “High adoption and 85% annual renewal from small towns and cities shows the increasing acceptance of digital learning as a primary tool for learning at home. This partnership will support and strengthen our vision of creating and delivering personalised learning experiences to students. This will help us explore and leverage our expertise in creating immersive tech-enabled learning programs for students in smaller cities, regions and newer markets.”

Byju’soffers learning programs for students in classes 1 to 12 in India. Recently, the company launched a whole new learning experience for younger children in classes 1-3 with Disney- Byju’s Early Learn App. Transforming the offline to an online learning experience, Byju’s has also acquired Osmo, a Palo Alto-based education game making company. With increased brand awareness and strong adoption amongst students,
Byju’s tripled its revenue to INR 1430 crore in FY 18-19 and also turned profitable on a full-year basis.
Byju’s has already crossed INR 200 crore in monthly revenue and is estimating revenue of over INR 3000 crore this year.

وشارك الجهاز في هذا الاستثمار صندوق رأس مال المغامر «أول فنشرز» Owl Ventures الذي يستثمر في شركات تكنولوجيا التعليم الرائدة في العالم.
وأوضح السيد منصور إبراهيم آل محمود الرئيس التنفيذي لجهاز قطر للاستثمار في تصريح له، أن هذا الاستثمار يؤكد الالتزام القوي للجهاز بالاستثمار في قطاع التعليم، وتركيزه على الاستثمار في أبرز المبتكرين الرائدين في صناعة التكنولوجيا والإعلام والاتصالات (TMT) على مستوى العالم.
من جانبها، ذكرت شركة «باي جوس»، في بيان لها، أمس، أن هذا الاستثمار سيدعم خططها الرامية إلى التوسع في الأسواق العالمية، وتوفير منتجات تعليمية عالمية الطراز للطلاب في مختلف أنحاء العالم، فضلاً عن أنه يعتبر الأول من نوعه في شركة هندية صاعدة.
وأعرب السيد باي جو رافيندران المؤسس والرئيس التنفيذي لشركة «باي جوس»، المصممة للتطبيق التعليمي، عن الامتنان للدخول في هذا الاستثمار مع شريكين قويين كجهاز قطر للاستثمار وصندوق «أول فنشرز»، مبيناً أن هذا الاستثمار الواعد من الجانبين يساهم في تعزيز أسس العمل القوية للشركة، ويبرهن على أن شركات التكنولوجيا الحديثة الهندية باتت محط اهتمام وجذب للمستثمرين البارزين، ويؤكد أيضاً الريادة الهندية في مجال التعلم الرقمي على مستوى العالم.
بدوره، أوضح السيد أميت باتل، المدير الإداري لـ «أول فنشرز»، أنه باحتوائه على أكبر عدد من سكان العالم في سن الدراسة بعدد يبلغ 260 مليون شخص، فإن قطاع التعليم في الهند قد وصل إلى منعطف صعب، مبيناً أن «باي جوس» كانت في طليعة الجهات التي وفرت التعليم الإضافي الجيد للمتعلمين الجدد في الهند وغيرها، ومؤكداً على أن هذه الشراكة الجديدة ستعزز من الالتزام بإيجاد أفضل السبل التعليمية الممكنة وأكثرها تميزاً لكل طالب. وتعتبر شركة «BYJUS» أكبر شركة تعليمية في الهند، وقد أطلقت الشركة تطبيق التعليم الخاص بها في العام 2015، ليصبح خلال فترة وجيزة تطبيق التعليم الأكثر تفضيلاً للطلاب عبر مختلف الفئات العمرية، ومن خلال قضاء مدة لا تتجاوز 51 دقيقة يومياً من قبل الطلاب في 1700 مدينة وبلدة حول العالم، فإن تطبيق «باي جوس» يجعل تجربة التعليم أكثر فعالية ومتعة.
