Qatar keep qualification hopes alive with hard-fought win over Nepal

Qatar defeated the favourites Nepal by four wickets to keep their T20 Men’s World Cup qualification hopes alive, while the game between Singapore and Kuwait was washed out.

Match 3: Nepal v Qatar

The second day of the tournament began with regional powerhouse Nepal taking on Qatar, who needed a win to keep their qualification hopes alive after Monday’s loss to Singapore in the curtain-raiser. Nepal elected to bat, with Paras Khadka (28) and Gyanendra Malla (23) putting on a composed 49 for the first wicket.

Just as Nepal threatened to cut loose and accelerate, Qatar’s Inam-ul-Haq removed Khadka, ensuring their momentum was stalled. Three Nepal players got starts, but none were able to kick on, and as a result they were bowled out for 122 in 19.2 overs. Iqbal Hussain was the standout bowler, picking 3/21 while Qatar captain Tamoor Sajjad supported him well with 2/14.

Nepal’s bowlers put up a staunch fight. Their skill, coupled with the Qatar batsmen’s chaotic running, ensured the game swung like a pendulum. Nepal, bolstered by their fans in attendance, took the game deep in to the last over. Their star leg-spinner, Sandeep Lamichhane, forced the issue with 3/33 in his four overs, ably supported by B Regmi, whose four overs came at just 14 runs.

But all the while, Inam-ul-Haq scored a composed 41 off 32 to ensure Qatar’s innings was on track deep into the chase. His run-out, courtesy a fine throw from DS Airee, caused a momentary hiccup, and their troubles deepened when Airee produced another brilliant run-out six balls later to remove captain Sajjad.

But Mohammed Rizlan and Nouman Sawar kept their cool to ensure Qatar reached the target without further drama.

Match 4: Singapore v Kuwait

The match was abandoned due to rain. Singapore and Kuwait shared a point each.

Nepal take on Malaysia next in a very crucial game for both teams.

وقدم منتخبنا الوطني مباراة كبيرة امام المنتخب النيبالي الذي تقدم في الشوط الاول بـ 123 نقطة، ولكن باصرار وعزيمة اللاعبين تمكن منتخبنا من العودة بقوة في الشوط الثاني فرض منتخبنا اسلوب لعبه من بين السريع والخفيف لتشتيت تركيز المنتخب النيبالي ليتمكن من حصد النقاط المتنوعة على التوالي حتى تمكن من العودة وتحقيق الفوز 127- 123، ليكون فوزا مستحقا لعبا ونتيجة، كما حصل لاعب منتخبنا ايمان الحق حصد جائزة رجل المبارة بعدما قدما اداءا مميزا وساهم في فوز منتخبنا.

وينتظر أن يواجه منتخبنا الوطني شقيقه الكويتي المصنف اسيويا رقم 28 غدا على ان يلتقي المنتخب الماليزي المصنف 35 يوم السبت المقبل في ختام التصفيات.
