MME pushes power, water conservation

The Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) has replaced the lighting system at Al Udeid Tower, which houses some of its offices, with an efficient LED system to reduce electricity consumption.

The change has been carried out in co-operation with the owner of the building.

The move is meant to rationalise the consumption of water and electricity across the different buildings from where the MME operates, it has said in a statement.

Besides the LED lights, 220 water-saving devices have been installed in water taps as part of the first stage of the rationalisation initiative, the MME has said in a statement.

These devices help reduce water consumption by around 40%, the statement points out, noting that this will eventually help reduce operational costs in the building.

حرصاً من وزارة البلدية والبيئة -ممثلة بإدارة الخدمات الإدارية- على تطبيق الممارسات السليمة لترشيد الكهرباء والماء في جميع مباني الوزارة وتبنّي استراتيجيات الحفاظ على موارد البيئة وكفاءة استخدام الطاقة والمياه؛ قامت وحدة الصحة والسلامة بإدارة الخدمات، بالتعاون مع مالك برج العديد، باستبدال نظام الإضاءة الموجود بالبرج بنظام ذي كفاءة وجودة عالية (LED)، والذي بدوره يساهم في ترشيد استهلاك الكهرباء. أما بالنسبة لترشيد استهلاك المياه، فقد تم توفير 220 قطعة موفرة للمياه وتثبيتها على صنابير المياه في البرج كمرحلة أولى، علماً بأن هذه الرؤوس توفر ما يقارب 40 % من استهلاك المياه، والذي بدوره يؤدي إلى تقليل تكاليف التشغيل للمباني. كما سيتم تعميم المبادرة على جميع مباني الوزارة.
