Qatari firm to produce paper bags to replace plastic ones
شركة قطرية تسعى لإنتاج الأكياس الورقية لتحل محل الأكياس البلاستيكية
Doha: Elite Paper Recycling, one of the largest paper recycling companies of Qatar, has planned to establish its own manufacturing unit to produce paper bags at attractive price by the end of 2020 that will replace plastic bags currently being used at retail stores.
“The move aims at replacing plastic bags being used at shopping complexes and supermarkets with environment friendly paper bags to ensure the sustainability of the country,” said M Abdallah Al Suwaidi, Chairman of Elite Paper Recycling company.
He said that the company is currently producing 3,000 tonnes of paper products in a month mainly carton boxes from recycled papers.
Al Suwaidi was speaking at MoU partnership signing ceremony to promote ‘Go Green Initiative Green Embassies’ held at the premises of the Embassy of Argentina yesterday.
The initiative aims at promoting sustainability and protecting environment by reducing the uses of paper waste through recycling and running campaigns to educate people about reducing wastage.
The MoU was singed by Ambassador of Argentine, Carlos Herandez and Chairman of Elite Paper Recycling company, M Abdallah Al Suwaidi.
Under the MoU, Elite Paper Recycling company will place cage for collecting discarded papers and documents at the Embassy. And the Embassy will participate in the awareness campaigns of the company.
“The Embassy of Argentina has signed the MoU under the green initiative which was joined by so far about six embassies,” said Ambassador of Argentine, Carlos Herandez.
He said that the Embassy took the first initiative by joining the initiative and many things to come afterword as the embassy supports the environmental causes because it is very important.
“This partnership is our own small contribution to a subject that should be taken seriously. I wanted to thank M Abdallah Al Suwaidi for his vision. I hope more young people were as committed as he is with the environment and our future,” said the Ambassador.
The Chairman of Elite Paper Recycling company said: “We are here today to mark the world environment day with embassy of Argentine in Qatar.”
“The green initiative is about recycling to reduce and reuse the paper products that we make. In the beginning we will recycle all papers and documents of embassy and to hold awareness campaign and events together to educate the community in this regards,” said Al Suwaidi.
He said that the company has planned to make paper bags. “We are working to reduce the use of plastic bags. By 2020, we will establishing our own factory to produce paper bags and supply to local market at competitive prices so the commercial outlets ease the commercial outlets in replacing plastic bags,” said Al Suwaidi.
He said that the company will produce large quantity of paper bags. “Our paper bags will cover Qatari market and the surplus will be exported,” said Al Suwaidi.
He said that the company is currently producing over 3,000 tonnes of paper products mainly carton boxes from recycled papers in a month. “About 20 percent products are being sold in local market and remaining 80 percent are being exported to GCC countries, Jordan, China, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and South Africa,” said Al Suwaidi.
He said that his company signed over 800 contracts with private companies which have waste papers and deployed over 2,000 cages of dumpsters for collecting papers across the country.
“We are covering now over 60 percent local market in term of collecting paper waste which helped stop carton boxes and paper going in garbage bins,” said Al Suwaidi.

وقعت أمس شركة النخبة لتدوير الورق اتفاقية مع السفارة الأرجنتينية بمناسبة اليوم العالمي للبيئة، وذلك بحضور رئيس مجلس إدارة شركة النخبة لتدوير الورق عبد الله إبراهيم السويدي، والسفير الأرجنتيني لدى الدوحة كارلوس هيرنانديز، وتنص المعاهدة على تولي الشركة القطرية مهمة تدوير الورق الخاصة بالسفارة، في إطار المجهودات التي تقوم بها لشركة في إطار ما يسمى بمشروع السفارات الخضراء، حيث لا يعد السفير الأرجنتيني أول سفير يوقع على مثل هذه الإتفاقية مع النخبة لتدوير الورق التي سبق لها عقد العديد من الشراكات مع عدد من السفارات آخرها السفارة الإيطالية شهر مارس الماضي.
وفى تصريحات خص بها الشرق أكد رئيس مجلس إدارة شركة النخبة للتدوير عبد الله إبراهيم السويدي، عقب توقيع الاتفاقية مع السفارة الأرجنتينية أن هذه الشراكة تندرج ضمن إستراتيجية النخبة للتدوير الباحثة عن الرفع من تعاملاتها مع السفارات والوصول إلى ضم أكبر عدد منها في سبيل خدمتها والمساهمة من خلالها في الحفاظ على البيئة المحلية ووضعها في أحسن الظروف، مبينا أن شركة التدوير نجحت في جميع تجاربها مع جميع السفارات التي تتعامل معها في مقدمتها فرنسا وسويسرا والولايات المتحدة الأمريكية، مشيرا إلى ضرورة مواصلة العمل بذات الأسلوب والتركيز على غرس ثقافة التدوير داخل المجتمع القطري، والتركيز على تعليم إيجابياته للجيل الناشئ.
وبعيدا عن الاتفاقية التي تربط الشركة بسفارة الأرجنتين قال السويدي إن النخبة لتدوير الورق تبحث دائما عن تطوير عملها وتقديم منتجات جديدة للسوق الوطني وكذا العمل على التصدير، معلنا أنه قد تم البدء في إنتاج الكرتون المشروع الذي كان قد تحدث عن إطلاقه شهر مارس المنصرم، مبينا أنه يعمل حاليا على إنتاج ألواح الكرتون للشركات وفقط، إلا أنه وبداية من شهر سبتمبر المقبل سينتج ما يعادل 1500 طن من الكرتون شهريا، ليصل إلى تصنيع 3000 طن شهريا مع بداية سنة 2020، وهي الكمية القادرة على تحقيق الاكتفاء الذاتي للدولة فيما يتعلق بالكرتون.
وكشف السويدي أن شركة النخبة لتدوير الورق وبعد أن ركزت في الفترة الماضية على دراسة طرق التقليل من استعمال الأكياس البلاستيكية، ستنطلق قريبا في تقديم الحل لذلك من خلال طرح أكياس ورقية داخل السوق مع بداية 2020، الأمر الذي سيقلص من نسبة اللجوء إلى أكياس البلاستيك، خاصة في حال عرض نظيرتها الورقية بأسعار رخيسة، بالإضافة إلى ميزتها التي تتيح للمستهلك استعمال هذا المنتج أكثر مرة، متابعا بالقول إن الشركة تعمل على توفير نسبة كبيرة من المواد التي تحتاجها في عملية التدوير على بقايا الأوراق في عدد من الجهات التي تتعاون معها، حيث تملك 800 عقد مع مختلف الجهات بالإضافة إلى توزيعها 2000 سلة في مختلف أنحاء الدولة لتجميع الورق المرمي من طرف مستهلكيه، مصرحا بأنه يهدف إلى زيادة إنتاج الشركة من الورق في الفترة المقبلة، بعد أن وصل حجم إنتاج النخبة لتدوير الورق 3 آلاف طن شهريا، يتم استغلال 20 بالمائة منها محليا، وتصدر 80 بالمائة منها الى مجموعة من الدول مثل عمان والكويت وبنغلاديش.
بدوره نوه السفير الأرجنتيني لدى الدوحة كارلوس هيرنانديز بالمبادرات التي تقوم بها شركة النخبة لتدوير الورق، والتي تعمل بواسطتها على المساهمة في الرفع من عدد السفارات الخضراء بقطر، معربا عن سعادته الكبيرة بالتعاون مع هذه الشركة الطموحة والساعية إلى تقديم الإضافة إلى بلدها، عن طريق العمل على إعادة تدوير الورق وتغطية السوق المحلي بنسب كبيرة من الورق الوطني، مبرزا الأهمية الكبيرة التي بات يحظى بها قطاع التدوير على المستوى العالمي، والفوائد الكبيرة التي يمكن له العودة بها على البيئة والاقتصاد الوطني في حال تم استغلاله كما يجب.
وأشاد هيرنانديز بالمجهودات التي تبذلها شركة النخبى لتدوير الورق للنهوض بهذا القطاع في قطر، ما بدأ يؤتي أكله بعد سنوات بسيطة من العمل، داعيا إلى ضرورة تعميم ثقافة التدوير في وسط الشباب القطري المطالب بضرورة معرفة إيجابيات هذا القطع وإعطائه القيمة الحقيقية التي تليق به.
