Qatar shake up Copa with thrilling comeback against Paraguay

Qatar fought their way back from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Paraguay in their first ever Copa America game on Sunday at the Maracana stadium in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The 2022 World Cup hosts are one of two guest teams at the South American championship along with Japan. Paraguay’s Oscar Cardozo smashed in from the penalty spot in the fourth minute to score the first goal of the match.

Qatar caused their opponents plenty of problems but after Cardozo had another strike ruled out after a VAR-review, the Asian Cup champions conceded again when Derlis Gonzalez scored early in the second half with a long-range rocket.

Qatar striker Almoez Ali pulled his side back into the game with a distance strike, which looped into the net in the 68th minute. Nine minutes later, Boualem Khoukhi scored to make it 2-2.

وشهدت المباراة 4 أهداف، حيث تقدم منتخب باراغواي بهدف مبكر في الدقيقة 4 للاعب أوسكار كاردوزو ثم عزز تقدمه بهدف ثاني في الدقيقة 55 عن طريق غونزاليس، قبل أن يحرز المعز علي الهدف الأول لأول منتخب عربي يشارك في البطولة في الدقيقة 67 ثم أدرك خوخي بوعلام التعادل في الدقيقة 77، لتتصدر كولومبيا المجموعة بعد الفوز على الأرجنتين بهدفين دون رد.

وسيواجه العنابي في مباراته الثانية كولومبيا الخميس المقبل، ثم الأرجنتين الأحد القادم.

وهذه هي المواجهة الثانية بين منتخبي قطر وباراغواي، حيث لم يتلق الفريقان من قبل سوى في مباراة ودية واحدة فقط، عام 2009 وانتهت بفوز العنابي بهدفين دون رد على ملعب “روبرت ديوشن” بمدينة رين الفرنسية.
