Qatar, Portugal to form parliamentary groups

The Shura Council and Portugal’s Assembly of the Republic signed yesterday a memorandum of understanding (MoU) at the assembly’s headquarters.
From the Qatari side, the MoU was signed by Speaker of the Shura Council H E Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud and from the Portuguese side it was signed by President of the Assembly Eduardo Ferro Rodrigues.
Under the MoU both sides agreed to establish partnership and promote relations that connect both sides based on principles of equality and mutual trust.
In addition they agreed to establish two parliamentary groups of friendship, exchange information, and work on unifying stances of common interest and unifying stances on topics in international conferences, meetings and forums.
They also agreed on mutual support in appointing leadership positions of international parliamentary organisations and exchanging expertise in various fields, such as legislative work and internal organization.
This came during a meeting held between both parties where they reviewed parliamentary relations between the Shura Council and the Assembly of the Republic.
They also reviewed means to boost and develop them and discussed a number of topics of common interest.
The meeting was attended by a number of council and assembly members as well as Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Portuguese Republic Saad bin Ali Al Binali Al Mohannadi.
In a related development, H E the Speaker of the Shura, met with Chairman of Twelve Plus Group Duarte Pacheco, which includes the parliaments of the European countries, Australia, Canada and New Zealand, on the sidelines of his official visit to the Republic of Portugal.
The meeting reviewed the parliamentary relations between the State of Qatar and the Twelve Plus Group, ways of supporting and strengthening them, in addition to discussing a number of issues of common concern.
The meeting was attended by members of the Shura Council and members of the Assembly of the Republic of Portugal and Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Republic of Portugal Saad bin Ali Al Binali Al Mohannadi.
تم التوقيع في لشبونة بالمقر الرئيسي لجمعية جمهورية البرتغال (البرلمان) على مذكرة تفاهم بين مجلس الشورى بدولة قطر وجمعية جمهورية البرتغال.
ووقع على المذكرة من الجانب القطري سعادة السيد أحمد بن عبد الله بن زيد آل محمود رئيس مجلس الشورى، ومن جانب جمعية جمهورية البرتغال سعادة السيد إدوارد فير رودريغيز، رئيس جمعية جمهورية البرتغال.
وبموجب مذكرة التفاهم، اتفق الطرفان على إقامة شراكة وتعزيز العلاقات التي تربط الطرفين على أسس مبادئ المساواة والثقة المتبادلة وإنشاء مجموعتين برلمانيتين للصداقة وتبادل المعلومات، والعمل على توحيد المواقف ذات الاهتمام المشترك، وتوحيد المواقف حول المواضيع في المؤتمرات والاجتماعات والمنتديات الدولية، والدعم المتبادل عند التعيينات في المراكز القيادية للمنظمات البرلمانية الدولية، وتبادل الخبرات في مختلف الميادين كالعمل التشريعي والتنظيم الداخلي. جاء ذلك خلال الاجتماع الذي تم بين الجانبين، وجرى خلاله استعراض العلاقات البرلمانية بين مجلس الشورى وجمعية جمهورية البرتغال، وسبل دعمها وتطويرها، ومناقشة عدد من المواضيع ذات الاهتمام المشترك.
حضر الاجتماع عدد من أعضاء مجلس الشورى وعدد من أعضاء جمعية جمهورية البرتغال، وسعادة السيد سعد بن علي البنعلي المهندي سفير دولة قطر لدى جمهورية البرتغال.
