‘Your Story Our Voice’ – Arsenal Star Mesut Ozil Invites Fans To Send In Videos To Combat Discrimination & Raise Mental Health Awareness As Part Of New Campaign

Arsenal star Mesut Ozil has launched a new campaign called ‘Your Story Our Voice’ to combat racism, discrimination and raise mental health awareness.

Ozil shared a four-page statement on his official Twitter and Instagram accounts regarding his latest initiative.

Fans have been asked to send in videos regarding their experiences suffering discrimination and dealing with mental health issues.

The playmaker of Turkish origin revealed that his social media channels will be opened up to his followers and used as a platform to raise awareness of their stories.

The 30-year-old also calls on everyone to ‘stand up for what is right’ next time ‘they ever hear or see abuse and discrimination’.

Ozil will share the videos on his official social media accounts as part of the anti-discrimination campaign.

The Arsenal playmaker is involved in several charities and recently announced at his wedding to Amine Gulse that he would fund surgery for 1000 children for the charity BigShoe.

The charity was founded in 2006, when Germany hosted the World Cup and works alongside German and Swiss doctors to help children around the world with life-changing surgeries.

Additionally, Ozil made donations to Turkish Red Crescent that fed 16,000 homeless people including Syrian refugees.

Ozil also invites kids from charity projects he is involved in to every home game at the Emirates, putting aside five of the 15 seats in his box to be used by these children and their families.

وقال أوزيل إن الوصول إلى متابعيه الذين يبلغ عددهم 80 مليوناً، سيكون متاحاً «للأشخاص الذين عانوا من التمييز العنصري أو حققوا شيئاً استثنائياً، وذلك ضمن جهود مكافحة مشكلات الصحة العقلية أو تحسين البيئة التي نعيش فيها».

وطالب أوزيل (30 عاماً) بإرسال مقاطع الفيديو له، مضيفاً: «معاً نستطيع أن نحدث فارقاً مذهلاً».

وكان أوزيل، المتوج مع المنتخب الألماني بلقب كأس العالم 2014 بالبرازيل، قد أعلن في 2018 اعتزاله اللعب الدولي، مرجعاً السبب في ذلك إلى تعرضه لتمييز عنصري.

وقال أوزيل حينها إنه شعر بأنه أصبح كبش فداء للأداء المتواضع الذي قدمه المنتخب الألماني، حامل اللقب، وخروجه المبكر من كأس العالم 2018 بروسيا.
