Amir, Rouhani stress for talks to maintain stability in region

His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani Saturday met with Iranian President Dr Hassan Rouhani on the sidelines of the fifth summit of Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA), held in Dushanbe.

At the beginning of the meeting, the Iranian president expressed his happiness to meet the Amir, noting that despite the problems in the region, Qatari-Iranian relations are witnessing steady development, pointing out that Qatar is a neighbour, friendly and brotherly country and hoped to further develop and deepen relations in all fields, with many bilateral and regional areas of co-operation.

The president expressed Iran’s desire for dialogue and the elimination of all misunderstandings in the region.

His Highness the Amir said that Qatari-Iranian relations are deep and historical, and stressed that Qatar’s historical and clear position is that any disagreement among neighbours should be resolved through dialogue.

The Amir thanked the president for Iran’s stance on the blockade imposed on Qatar since 2017 and for providing air, land and sea transit facilities. The Amir also referred to the strong and solid relations between the two peoples.

The two leaders discussed bilateral relations and means of enhancing them. They also discussed the latest developments in the region, especially the escalation in the Gulf region, stressing the importance of dialogue to resolve differences in order to maintain the region’s security and stability.

Members of the official delegation accompanying the Amir and a number of ministers from the Iranian side attended meeting.

التقى حضرة صاحب السمو الشيخ تميم بن حمد آل ثاني أمير البلاد المفدى، مع فخامة الرئيس الدكتور حسن روحاني رئيس الجمهورية الإسلامية الإيرانية، وذلك على هامش انعقاد القمة الخامسة لمؤتمر التفاعل وإجراءات بناء الثقة في آسيا «سيكا» بمدينة دوشنبه، بعد ظهر أمس.

في البداية، أعرب فخامة الرئيس الإيراني عن سعادته باللقاء مع سمو الأمير، موضحاً أنه برغم ما تشهده المنطقة من بعض المشاكل، إلا أن العلاقات القطرية الإيرانية تشهد نمواً مطرداً، مشيراً إلى أن قطر دولة جارة وصديقة وشقيقة، وآملاً في تطوير وتعميق العلاقات في كافة المجالات، خاصة مع وجود مجالات تعاون كثيرة ثنائية وإقليمية.

وبين فخامة الرئيس رغبة إيران في الحوار، وإزالة كل حالات إساءة الفهم القائمة في المنطقة.

بدوره، أوضح سمو الأمير أن العلاقات القطرية الإيرانية علاقات عميقة وتاريخية، وأكد سموه على أن موقف قطر التاريخي والواضح من أن أي خلاف بين الجيران بأنه يجب أن يحل عن طريق الحوار.

وشكر سمو الأمير فخامة الرئيس على موقف إيران من الحصار المفروض على دولة قطر لأكثر من سنتين بتقديم تسهيلات العبور الجوية والبرية والبحرية، كما أشار سموه إلى العلاقات القوية والمتينة بين الشعبين.

كما بحث سمو الأمير وفخامة الرئيس -خلال اللقاء- العلاقات الثنائية، وسبل تطويرها وتعزيزها، كما ناقشا مجمل الأحداث الأخيرة في المنطقة، لا سيما التصعيد في منطقة الخليج، حيث أكدا على أهمية الحوار لحل الخلافات، من أجل الحفاظ على أمن الإقليم واستقراره.

حضر اللقاء عدد من أصحاب السعادة أعضاء الوفد الرسمي المرافق لسمو الأمير، وحضره من الجانب الإيراني عدد من أصحاب السعادة الوزراء.
