UN re-appoints Sheikha Moza as Sustainable Development Goals Advocate

Doha: United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has re-appointed H H Sheikha Moza bint Nasser along with 16 influential public figures, as part of the 2019-2020 class of Sustainable Development Goals’ Advocates.

This new class of advocates is committed to raising awareness, inspiring greater ambition and pushing for faster action on the SDGs, which were adopted by world leaders on 25 September 2015.

Peace, prosperity, people, planet, and partnerships are the principles at the heart of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which also drive the new class of SDG Advocates. To build the momentum for transformative, inclusive development by 2030, the Secretary-General’s SDG Advocates will use their unique platforms and leadership to inspire cross-cutting mobilization of the global community.

During the announcement, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, said: “The Advocates will be important partners for the Hub as they will be taking our messaging out into the world, amplifying our initiatives, participating in our events, and will be feeding into our work streams. We look forward to working and partnering closely with them going forward.”

Sheikha Moza has been selected for a second time to be an Advocate of the Sustainable Development Goals, in recognition of her leading role in providing quality education, youth empowerment, and human development through her initiatives at the local and international level.

جدد سعادة السيد أنطونيو غوتيريس الأمين العام للأمم المتحدة تعيين صاحبة السمو الشيخة موزا بنت ناصر ضمن مجموعة المدافعين عن أهداف التنمية المستدامة للفترة 2019-2020 وذلك الى جانب 16 شخصية عامة اخرى مؤثرة.

وتلتزم مجموعة المدافعين الجديدة بالعمل على رفع مستوى الوعي لدى الجمهور والدفع نحو اتخاذ المزيد من الإجراءات التي من شأنها تسريع عملية الوصول إلى أهداف التنمية المستدامة التي اعتمدها قادة العالم في 25 سبتمبر 2015.

ومن أجل المزيد من الزخم لتحقيق التنمية التحويلية والشاملة بحلول عام 2030 سيعمل المدافعون عن أهداف التنمية المستدامة بتوظيف منصاتهم ومهاراتهم القيادية من أجل إلهام المجتمع الدولي وتعبئته بصورة شاملة.

وقال الأمين العام للأمم المتحدة “سيكون المدافعون عن اهداف التنمية المستدامة شركاء مهمين بتحقيق الأهداف المنشودة من خلال جهودهم في إيصال رسائلنا إلى العالم و تعزيز تأثير مبادراتنا والمشاركة بفعالياتنا مما سيضفي مزيداً من الزخم على اتجاهات عملنا ونتطلع إلى توطيد شراكتنا والعمل معهم يداً بيد لتحقيق كل ما نصبو إليه”.

لقد جاء اختيار صاحبة السمو، للمرة الثانية على التوالي، لعضوية المجموعة الأمميّة للمدافعين عن أهداف التنمية المستدامة، تقديراً لدورها التأسيسي والقيادي لمجموعة من المؤسسات والمبادرات التي تهدف إلى توفير التعليم النوعي، وتمكين الشباب والتنمية البشرية على المستويين المحلي والدولي.
