Qatar’s education landscape showcased at US conference

Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) and Qatar University (QU) are participating in the NAFSA (Association of International Educators) 2019 Annual Conference and Expo, a premier professional learning and networking event for international educators, held under the theme Global Leadership, Learning, and Change, this week in Washington, DC.
HBKU and QU delegates are heading up the Qatar Pavilion at the event, under the theme of Study in Qatar.
The dedicated stand serves to showcase Qatar as an emerging global destination for higher education and research, and the successes achieved through its ongoing collaborations with global partners.
The event that opened on May 26 and ends tomorrow saw the participation of more than 9,000 industry professionals from 3,500 institutions and organisations across 100 countries, who exchanged valuable insights on all areas of international education administration, student services, research and teaching from a global perspective.
University delegations included senior members of management and international office associates, who were actively engaged in a series of events, sessions, and conference hall showcases.
Maryam al-Mannai, vice-president for student affairs at HBKU, said: “NAFSA is a key event on the international education calendar, and HBKU is proud to have participated for the fifth year running.
“The global education ecosystem continues to evolve and adapt, and the event provides an invaluable platform to assess these ongoing developments, compare notes and evaluate the efficacy of latest advancements.
“HBKU is at the forefront of multidisciplinary education in the region and it is always an exceptional honour to represent Qatar and showcase our innovative teaching methods to the global education community, while gleaning invaluable information from our international peers.”
The theme of this year’s conference sought to encourage reflection on the status quo in the education field and how best to overcome current challenges faced in the teaching profession.
“Qatar University is the first, largest, and most prominent institution for higher education in Qatar,” Dr Khalid al-Khanji, QU vice-president for student affairs, commented. “NAFSA 2019 mirrors QU values such as partnership, international diversity and innovation.
“We attract international students because we put our student’s first. Our key focus is to draw students via our specialisation in key science, technology, engineering and math areas, by providing an exciting learning environment and prioritising research methodologies.”
More than 200 professional learning sessions and programmes were held throughout the duration of the event, including specialised pre-conference learning workshops, leadership programmes for presidents, provosts, directors and managers, signature programmes supporting global learning, peace building, risk management and internationalisation, poster presentations, and a NAFSA community celebration.
HBKU is a multidisciplinary institution that regularly collaborates with local and international partners to promote knowledge exchange and showcase its innovative approach to delivering world-class graduate programmes.
As a premier national institution, QU continuously invests and participates in studies which further science and society.

جامعتا حمد وقطر تستعرضان أوضاع التعليم بمعرض ومؤتمر نافسا 2019
شاركت جامعة حمد بن خليفة وجامعة قطر، مؤخرًا، في معرض ومؤتمر منظمة نافسا 2019 للتعليم العالي، وهي فعالية رائدة للتعليم المهني تتيح فرصة للتواصل بين المعلمين الدوليين.
وأقيمت هذه الفعالية تحت شعار «القيادة العالمية، والتعليم، والتغيير»، خلال الفترة من 26 – 31 مايو في العاصمة الأميركية واشنطن.
وانضم الوفدان الممثلان لجامعة حمد بن خليفة وجامعة قطر إلى هذه الفعالية، حيث شاركا في ترؤس الجناح القطري، تحت شعار «ادرس في قطر»، الذي استعرض إمكانيات دولة قطر، باعتبارها وجهة عالمية بارزة للتعليم العالي والبحوث، والنجاحات التي تحققت من خلال التعاون المستمر مع الشركاء العالميين.
وشهدت الفعالية مشاركة أكثر من 9000 مختص من 3500 مؤسسة ومنظمة معنية بالتعليم في 100 دولة، حيث تبادل هؤلاء الأشخاص رؤاهم القيِّمة حول جميع مجالات إدارة التعليم الدولي، والخدمات الطلابية، والبحوث والتدريس من منظور عالمي.
وشكل الوفد المشارك في المعرض أعضاء من الإدارة العليا في كلتا الجامعتين، وممثلون عن مكتب الشراكات الدولية، الذين شاركوا في سلسلة من الفعاليات والدورات والعروض في قاعة المؤتمرات.
وقالت مريم حمد المناعي، نائب الرئيس لشؤون الطلاب بجامعة حمد بن خليفة: «يُعَدُ معرض ومؤتمر نافسا من الفعاليات الرئيسية على جدول مؤتمرات التعليم الدولية، وتفخر جامعة حمد بن خليفة بالمشاركة في هذه الفعالية للعام الخامس على التوالي.
وأضافت: «تواصل المنظومة التعليمية العالمية مسيرة تطورها وتكيفها، كما توفر هذه الفعالية منصة قيِّمة لرصد هذه التطورات المتواصلة، ومقارنة الملاحظات، وتقييم فعالية أحدث التطورات».
وتابعت: «تتمتع الجامعة بموقع رائد في طليعة المؤسسات التعليمية التي تقدم برامج متعددة التخصصات في المنطقة، ودائمًا ما نتشرف للغاية بتمثيل قطر وعرض مناهجنا التعليمية المبتكرة لمجتمع التعليم العالمي، مع الحصول على معلومات قَيِّمة من نظرائنا الدوليين».
وقال الدكتور خالد الخنجي، نائب رئيس جامعة قطر لشؤون الطلاب: «تتميز جامعة قطر بأنها أول وأكبر وأبرز مؤسسة للتعليم العالي في قطر، لافتاً إلى أن معرض ومؤتمر منظمة نافسا 2019 للتعليم العالي، يستعرض القيم التي تتبناها جامعة قطر، مثل: الشراكة، والتنوع العالمي، والابتكار.
وأضاف: «نستقطب الطلاب الدوليين لأننا نمنح أولوية لطلابنا، ويتمثل تركيزنا الأساسي في استقطاب الطلاب عبر تخصصنا في مجالات العلوم الأساسية، والتكنولوجيا، والهندسة، والرياضيات، عن طريق توفير بيئة تعليمية مثيرة ومنح أولوية لمنهجيات البحوث».
وقد عُقِدْت أكثر من 200 جلسة وبرنامج تعليمي متخصص طوال فترة انعقاد تلك الفعالية، بما في ذلك ورش عمل تعليمية متخصصة قبيل انعقاد المؤتمر، وبرامج قيادية لرؤساء الجامعات والوكلاء وكبار المديرين وصغارهم، بالإضافة إلى برامج متميزة تدعم التعليم العالمي، وبناء السلام، وإدارة المخاطر، والتدويل، وعروض الملصقات، والاحتفاء بمجتمع معرض ومؤتمر نافسا.
