NHRC members re-elect Dr Al Marri as Chairman

The members of the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) renewed their confidence in Dr Ali bin Smaikh Al Marri, unanimously re-electing him as Chairman of the NHRC in its new session.
Dr Mohammed Saif Al Kuwari was elected as Vice-Chairman of the Committee by a majority after the vote for a number of committee members who were nominated for the post. Mariam bint Abdullah Al Attiyah was also elected as General-Secretary of the NHRC, a rapporteur for the Committee.
This came during the first meeting of the fifth session of the National Human Rights Committee members headed by Dr Yousef Obaidan as the oldest member, in the presence of the bodies represented in the Committee from the civil society and the ministries of Interior, Justice, and the Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs.
The meeting of the National Human Rights Committee then discussed a number of related issues and the members of the Committee were distributed to the three subcommittees: the Reporting and Legislation Committee, the Monitoring and Visits Committee and the Research and Studies Committee.
The members thanked Dr Yousef Obaidan for the contributions and the efforts he has made during his tenure as Vice-Chairman of the Committee.
جدد أعضاء اللجنة الوطنية لحقوق الإنسان الثقة في سعادة الدكتور علي بن صميخ المري بانتخابه رئيساً للجنة في دورتها الجديدة بالإجماع .
كما تم انتخاب الدكتور محمد سيف الكواري نائباً لرئيس اللجنة بالأغلبية بعد التصويت لعدد من أعضاء اللجنة الذين تم ترشيحهم للمنصب .
وتم كذلك اختيار السيدة مريم بنت عبد الله العطية، أمينا عاما للجنة الوطنية لحقوق الإنسان، مقررا للجنة.
جاء ذلك خلال الاجتماع الأول للدورة الخامسة لأعضاء اللجنة برئاسة الدكتور يوسف عبيدان بوصفه العضو الأكبر سنا ً، وذلك بحضور الجهات الممثلة في اللجنة من المجتمع المدني ووزارات الداخلية والعدل والتنمية الإدارية والعمل والشؤون الاجتماعية.
بعد ذلك ناقش الاجتماع جملة من القضايا ذات الصلة، كما تم أيضا توزيع أعضاء اللجنة على اللجان الفرعية الثلاث وهي لجنة إعداد التقارير والتشريعات، ولجنة الرصد والزيارات، ولجنة البحوث والدراسات.
وتوجه أعضاء اللجنة الوطنية لحقوق الإنسان بالشكر للدكتور يوسف عبيدان للإسهامات والجهود التي قدمها خلال فترة عمله نائبا لرئيس اللجنة .
