Winners of Qatar e-Nature schools contest honoured

Doha: Under the patronage of Minister of Education and Higher Education H E Dr Mohammed Abdul Wahed Ali Al Hammadi, the 6th Edition of the Qatar e-Nature schools contest concluded with an award ceremony that was held yesterday at Wyndham West Bay Hotel.

Sasol, the international integrated chemicals and energy company, launched the 2019 schools contest in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education and Friends of the Environment Centre (FEC) last November.

During the contest, the Qatar e-Nature team visited many schools to promote awareness of Qatar’s rich natural environment and encourage schools to participate. Qualification rounds were held at Al Markhiyah Primary School for Girls during March.

The final round of the competition took place during the award ceremony, where the qualified teams competed to answer questions that tested their knowledge on Qatar’s nature and wildlife, all based on the information provided through the Qatar e-Nature mobile application.

Umm Salama Primary School for Girls school, emerging as the winner of the contest, was awarded gold medals and vouchers to the value of QR9,000. In second place was Lebanese school, winning silver medals and vouchers for QR6,000.

English Modern School – Al Wakra Campus came in third place, winning bronze medals and vouchers for QR4,500 while Al Shifaa Bint Abdul Rahman Al Ansaria School for Girls came in fourth, winning vouchers for QR3,000.

The ceremony was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, Sasol, FEC, and the media. Students’ families and teachers were also in attendance supporting the various teams.

Fatima Al Obaidli, Head of Programs and Activities at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, said: “We are very pleased to witness yet another success with this year’s Qatar e-Nature Schools Contest. This social initiative is not only a model of an effective partnership between the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, Sasol and FEC, but also a testament to the very fruitful results of fusing education, technology, and a passion for our environment.”

Friends of the Environment Centre Director, Farhood Al Hajiri added: “The Qatar e-Nature Schools Contest serves an important message to all members of society- that caring for and learning about Qatar’s rich environment is a shared responsibility. We thank Sasol and the Ministry of Education and Higher Education for their efforts and cooperation in making the Qatar e-Nature Schools Contest a successful vehicle in conveying that message and instilling environmental awareness in our younger generations.”

تحت رعاية سعادة الدكتور محمد بن عبدالواحد الحمادي وزير التعليم والتعليم العالي، اختتمت منافسات مسابقة Qatar e-Nature للمدراس 2019 في عامها السادس، وذلك في حفل ختامي شهد الجولة النهائية من المسابقة وكذلك توزيع الجوائز، والذي أقيم أمس في فندق ويندام وست باي.

اجتذبت مسابقة Qatar e-Nature للمدارس في نسختها لهذا العام عدداً قياسياً من الطلاب يقدر بـ 339 طالباً وطالبة مثلوا 113 مدرسة (60 مدرسة حكومية و53 مدرسة خاصة) من جميع أنحاء قطر.

وكانت شركة ساسول، الشركة الدولية المتكاملة للكيماويات والطاقة، قد أطلقت النسخة السادسة من مسابقة المدارس بالتعاون مع كل من وزارة التعليم والتعليم العالي ومركز أصدقاء البيئة في نوفمبر الماضي.

وخلال هذه المسابقة، قام فريق Qatar e-Nature بزيارة العديد من المدارس لنشر الوعي حول تنوع وغنى البيئة القطرية وتشجيع المدارس على المشاركة في منافسات المسابقة. وقد أقيمت جولات التصفية في مدرسة المرخية الابتدائية للبنات في شهر مارس.

أما الجولة النهائية من المسابقة فقد أقيمت خلال الحفل الختامي، حيث تنافست الفرق المتأهلة عبر تقديمها الإجابات الصحيحة على الأسئلة التي تختبر مدى معرفتهم بالطبيعة والحياة البرية في قطر، والتي تستند جميعها إلى المعلومات التي يوفرها تطبيق الهاتف الذكي Qatar e-Nature. وحصدت مدرسة أم سلمة الابتدائية للبنات على المركز الأول، حيث فاز الفريق بالميداليات الذهبية وبقسائم شرائية قيمتها 9 آلاف ريال، فيما ذهب المركز الثاني إلى مدرسة المدرسة اللبنانية التي فاز فريقها بالميداليات الفضية وبقسائم شرائية قيمتها 6 آلاف ريال. أما مدرسة المدرسة الإنجليزية الحديثة – الوكرة فقد احتلت المركز الثالث وحصل فريقها على الميداليات البرونزية وقسائم شرائية قيمتها 4500 ريال، فيما احتلت مدرسة الشفاء بنت عبدالرحمن الأنصارية للبنات المركز الرابع، وحصل فريقها على قسائم شرائية قيمتها 3 آلاف ريال.

وقالت السيدة فاطمة العبيدلي رئيس قسم البرامج والأنشطة في وزارة التعليم والتعليم العالي: «يسعدنا حقاً أن نشهد نجاحاً آخر يضاف إلى سجل نجاحات مسابقة Qatar e-Nature للمدارس في قطر. ولا تعد هذه المبادرة المجتمعية فقط نموذجاً للشراكة الفعالة بين وزارة التعليم والتعليم العالي وساسول ومركز أصدقاء البيئة، ولكنها أيضاً شاهدة على النتائج المثمرة التي يمكن أن نجنيها حينما ندمج بين التعليم والتكنولوجيا الحديثة والشغف بالبيئة القطرية».

وقال السيد فرهود الهاجري المدير التنفيذي لمركز أصدقاء البيئة: «إن مسابقة المدارس Qatar e-Nature أصبحت تحمل رسالة مهمة لجميع أفراد المجتمع، مفادها أن رعاية بيئة قطر وتنوعها وغناها واستكشافها هي مسؤولية مشتركة تقع على عاتق الجميع».

أما السيد ريخارد دو بليسيس المدير العام لشركة ساسول في قطر، فقال: «نهنئ الفرق الفائزة في مسابقة Qatar e-Nature للمدارس لهذا العام، وأود أن أشيد بجميع المدارس المشاركة وأشكرها على جهودها. إنني على ثقة بأن هذه المسابقة سوف تواصل تطورها وتشجع أجيالنا الشابة على معرفة المزيد عن البيئة القطرية واستكشاف تنوعها».
