Top Qatari entities come together to promote financial education

DOHA: Prominent Qatari entities that included the Qatar Stock Exchange (QSE), the Qatar Financial Centre (QFC), (QNB), and the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands came together as part of Money Week Qatar 2019, a week-long campaign that is designed to promote financial education among schoolchildren.
The initiative comes as part of Global Money Week, a project that was originally launched by Queen Máxima of the Netherlands nine years ago, and has grown to become an annual global initiative that reaches 169 countries and has touched the lives of 32 million students. The campaign aims to raise awareness among school children of the importance of financial education, inclusion and the principles of good financial management.
The first edition of Money Week Qatar was held in 2017, and saw participation from 100 students, gradually growing to become 1,100 students in 2018. This year’s edition engaged over 1,500 primary school children from both local and international schools, and included a series of interactive activities such as guest lectures, daily school trips to QSE to understand stock trading, along with a range of other fun and educational activities.
The QFC Authority said: “The Qatar Financial Centre’s CSR and Social Investment strategy ‘United for Good’ underscores our long-term commitment to our ethical, social and environmental responsibilities and with that we place very high importance on Youth and Community Development, with a special emphasis on encouraging financial literacy within the local community. With that in mind, we are delighted to support Money Week Qatar for the second consecutive year, as we believe that by instilling financial awareness at an early age, we are essentially empowering young people to make sound financial decisions now and in the future.”
Bahia Tahzib-Lie, Ambassador for the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the State of Qatar said: “I’m proud that Qatar participated for the third time. This year more schools and more professional volunteers enthusiastically took part. It’s great to see how eager children and youth are to learn that money matters. They are the next generation of change makers. It is therefore so important to empower young people to be aware of the value of money, know how to spend money wisely, and realize they must save money for their future.”
Salem al-Naimi, Assistant General Manager – QNB Public Relations, said: “We are pleased to offer our sponsorship to this important initiative that will bring great benefit to our future generations. Our Group is always keen to support such initiatives that raise awareness among children in Qatar about the importance of financial education, financial inclusion and the principles of good financial management that will help them develop their financial future.”
شاركت مجموعة من الهيئات والكيانات القطرية، من بينها بورصة قطر، وهيئة مركز قطر للمال، ومجموعة «QNB»، وسفارة مملكة هولندا في قطر، في فعاليات أسبوع قطر للمال 2019، الذي يهدف إلى تعزيز التعليم المالي بين أطفال المدارس.
كانت النسخة الأولى من أسبوع قطر للمال قد انعقدت في عام 2017، وشهدت مشاركة 100 طالب، قبل أن يرتفع عدد المشاركين في عام 2018 إلى 1100 طالب. بينما نجحت نسخة هذا العام من الفعاليات في إشراك 1500 طالب من المدارس الابتدائية المحلية والدولية. وامتدت الفعاليات على مدار أسبوع كامل، تضمنت سلسلة من الأنشطة من المحاضرات، والرحلات المدرسية إلى بورصة قطر لفهم تداول الأسهم، إلى جانب مجموعة من الأنشطة الترفيهية والتعليمية الأخرى.
وهذه المبادرة هي جزء من أسبوع المال العالمي، وهو مشروع أطلقته الملكة ماكسيما، ملكة هولندا، قبل 9 سنوات، بهدف توعية طلاب المدارس بأهمية التعليم المالي والإدماج ومبادئ الإدارة المالية الجيدة. ومنذ ذلك الحين، تطورت هذه المبادرة لتصبح مبادرة عالمية تشمل أكثر من 169 بلداً، ويشارك فيها ما يزيد عن 32 مليون طالب.
وبهذه المناسبة، قالت سعادة الدكتورة بهية تهذيب، سفيرة مملكة هولندا في دولة قطر: «أنا فخورة بأن قطر شاركت للمرة الثالثة في فعاليات «أسبوع قطر للمال»؛ هذا العام شارك المزيد من المدارس والمتطوعين المحترفين بحماس. إنه لأمر رائع أن نرى مدى رغبة الأطفال والشباب في تعلم أن المال مهم، هم الجيل القادم من صناع التغيير لذلك من المهم للغاية تمكين الشباب من إدراك قيمة المال، ومعرفة كيفية إنفاق المال بحكمة، وإدراك أنه يجب عليهم توفير المال من أجل مستقبلهم».
ومن جهته، قال سالم النعيمي، مساعد المدير العام للعلاقات العامة في مجموعة «QNB»: «يسرنا رعاية هذه المبادرة الهامة التي ستعود بالنفع الكبير على أجيالنا المستقبلية، كما تؤكد مجموعتنا حرصها على دعم مختلف المبادرات الهادفة لرفع مستوى الوعي لدى الأطفال في قطر حول أهمية التعليم المالي، والشمول المالي، ومبادئ الإدارة المالية الجيدة، وحثهم على اكتساب وتطوير هذه المهارات منذ سن مبكرة لتساعدهم على تحقيق النجاح، وبناء مستقبلهم المالي».
وقال السيد شان لي، مدير مشروع أسبوع قطر للمال: «أنا سعيد للغاية لانضمام خمس مدارس جديدة إلينا هذا العام.
وقد عبروا جميعاً عن رغبتهم في المشاركة مرة أخرى العام المقبل، خاصة بعدما لمسوا تأثير الدروس التي يقدمها المتحدثون على طلابهم. وإنني ممتن للغاية للمجموعة المتزايدة من المتطوعين، إذ يعكسون لي حبهم بالقيام بهذا العمل لخدمة مجتمعهم، وهو أمر يفرح القلب».
