QNL attends CDNL-AO meet
قطر تشارك في رسم مستقبل المكتبات الوطنية بآسيا ودول المحيط الهادئ
Doha: Qatar National Library recently took part in the Conference of Directors of National Libraries in Asia and Oceania (CDNL-AO). Held at the National Library Board in Singapore, the conference was attended by library directors from 20 countries throughout Asia and Oceania, who discussed the future of libraries and ways to remain relevant to future generations.
Dr Stuart Hamilton, Deputy Executive Director of International Relations and Communications at QNL, attended the conference, sharing insights about the significance of the QNL’s international partnerships, with a focus on the progress it has made over the past year. “Together with our partners around the world, we continue to bring libraries and institutions closer to share knowledge and expertise. The Library works with international libraries, archives, and cultural institutions to promote research and make the history of Qatar and the region more accessible,” he said.
“As a national library, we are creating tremendous value for the people of Qatar, as thousands of users from the local community visit us every month to use the incredible resources available free of cost, and attend one of the many events we hold. We are becoming a hub for everyone in the community to learn, engage, and excel,” he said.
Dr Hamilton met with Elaine Ng, Chief Executive Officer of the National Library Board in Singapore, and discussed QNL’s progress. He also met with Tan Huism, Director of the National Library at the National Library Board in Singapore, and gifted a copy of the Heritage Library Catalogue, “It All Began with ‘Read’: Unfolding the Arab’s History,” which showcases the range of historical manuscripts and other items available at the Heritage Library.
Dr Hamilton also attended the Second Silk Road International Forum for Libraries. He revealed the range of historical manuscripts available at QNL. These include the largest collection outside China of Chinese-produced Holy Quran, and the Cihânnümâ, or Book of the World, which contains the most advanced summary of Ottoman knowledge in geography, hydrography, political geography, and the road networks of each continent.
شاركت مكتبة قطر الوطنية، مؤخرًا، في مؤتمر مديري المكتبات الوطنية في آسيا ودول المحيط الهادئ، الذي أقيم في مقر مجلس المكتبة الوطنية في سنغافورة، وحضره مديرو المكتبات من 20 دولة من هذه المنطقة، لمناقشة مستقبل المكتبات الوطنية، وسبل دعم الأجيال القادمة بالعلم والمعرفة.
حضر المؤتمر الدكتور ستوارت هاملتون، نائب المدير التنفيذي لشؤون العلاقات الدولية والاتصال في المكتبة، وعرض رؤية المكتبة حول أهمية الشراكات الدولية لها، مع التركيز بوجه خاص على الإنجازات التي أحرزتها المكتبة خلال العام الماضي.
وقال الدكتور هاملتون: «من خلال التعاون مع شركائنا نمد جسور التعاون والتواصل بين المكتبات والمؤسسات المعنية بالمعرفة في العالم لتبادل المعرفة والخبرات فيما بينها، والمكتبة تتعاون مع المكتبات الدولية والأرشيفات والمؤسسات الثقافية من أجل تعزيز البحوث وإتاحة تاريخ قطر والمنطقة للجميع».
وأضاف الدكتور هاملتون: «في إطار دورنا كمكتبة وطنية، نبذل أقصى جهدنا لتمكين سكان دولة قطر من المواطنين والمقيمين، بإتاحة الخدمات المتميزة من مصادر المعرفة، وإقامة الفعاليات والورش والمحاضرات والمعارض في مجالات الثقافة والفنون والتاريخ والعلوم. لقد أصبحنا الوجهة المفضلة لكافة فئات المجتمع للتعلم والتفاعل وتطوير المهارات، إذ يتدفق على المكتبة آلاف الرواد كل شهر للاستفادة من مصادر المكتبة المجانية المطبوعة والإلكترونية، أو المشاركة في فعالياتنا المختلفة». وعلى هامش المؤتمر، التقى الدكتور هاملتون بالسيدة إلين نغ الرئيسة التنفيذية لمجلس المكتبة الوطنية في سنغافورة، وناقش معها سبل التعاون المشترك في تبادل المعرفة والخبرات، كما التقى السيدة تان هويزم مديرة المكتبة الوطنية السنغافورية، وأهدى الدكتور هاملتون نسخة من دليل مقتنيات المكتبة التراثية «في البداية كانت اقرأ: العرب عبر التاريخ» الذي يُسلّط الضوء على مجموعة من المخطوطات والمواد التاريخية الفريدة المعروضة في المكتبة التراثية.
كما شارك الدكتور هاملتون في المنتدى الدولي الثاني لطريق الحرير للمكتبات الذي يركز على دور الشراكات الدولية الدائمة، وتبادل المواد التاريخية كوسيلة لتعزيز دور المكتبات في المنطقة.
