Qatar National Library hosts workshop on Islamic manuscript papers
مكتبة قطر الوطنية تناقش تحديد وتصنيف المخطوطات الإسلامية
DOHA: Researchers, manuscript experts, and conservators from Qatar and across the region attended a five-day training course at Qatar National Library (QNL).
Organised by the Library and IFLA’s Regional Preservation and Conservation Center, the intensive training course, “Why and How to Identify and Classify Islamic Manuscript Papers,” took place from March 31 to April 4.
Renowned papyrologist and codicologist, Dr. Anne Regourd, shared best practices with participants during the training session that focused on a selection of Islamic manuscripts used between 7th to 20th centuries.
“Paper studies are developing in many ways, and we have new discoveries and improvements in this field to explore,” said Dr Regourd. “I am delighted to deliver this course on new materials in the field for experts in Qatar and from across the Arab region. The fact that the Library is interested in such topics and brings experts from other countries is very encouraging and it is a good news for the preservation and conservation of historical manuscripts.”
Participants learned about the different media used by Arab scribes and copyists to write Islamic manuscripts, and highlighted tools commonly used for paper identification in the Islamic world.
Conservator and art historian, Nil Baydar, who works at the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in Turkey, attended the workshop, and said: “The course was very interesting for me because it provided me with practical knowledge to use in a project on Islamic manuscript papers that I currently work on with a relevant institution in Turkey. I learned several new topics such as the use of European paper in Islamic manuscripts and other.”
“The lecture offered very interesting information about the history of manuscripts and especially about the paper of manuscripts. This is a unique workshop as it covered an important topic for the first time in the Arab region. I am very happy to be here at the Library and fascinated by the conservation and research facilities here,” said Yousef Derghan, Director of the Collection of Manuscripts at the main library in Holy Spirit University of Kaslik in Lebanon.
شارك اختصاصيو حفظ وصيانة الكتب والوثائق وباحثون وخبراء في مجال المخطوطات من قطر والدول العربية، في ورشة تدريبية بعنوان: «تحديد وتصنيف المخطوطات الإسلامية: الأسباب والوسائل»، نظمتها المكتبة لمدة خمسة أيام من 31 مارس إلى 4 أبريل، في إطار دورها كمركز الإفلا الإقليمي لصيانة مواد المكتبات والمحافظة عليها للبلدان العربية ومنطقة الشرق الأوسط.
ركزت الورشة التدريبية التي قدمتها الدكتورة آن ريجورد -الخبيرة في علم البرديات والمخطوطات- على مجموعة من المخطوطات الإسلامية بين القرنين السابع والعشرين.
وحول أهمية هذه الورشة، قالت الدكتورة آن ريجور: «تطورت الدراسات الورقية كثيراً، وتوصلنا إلى اكتشافات ووسائل جديدة لتحسين كفاءة عملنا في التعامل مع المخطوطات القديمة، وهذه الاكتشافات جديرة بالتناول والشرح وتوعية اختصاصيي حفظ وصيانة الكتب بها. ولهذا سعدت كثيراً بتقديم هذه الورشة التدريبية، لأنها تتيح للخبراء في قطر والمنطقة العربية التعرف على الاكتشافات والمواد الجديدة في دراسة تاريخ الورق، كما سعدت باهتمام مكتبة قطر الوطنية بهذا الموضوع وجهدها الكبير في تنظيم هذه الورشة المهمة لكل المتخصصين في حفظ المخطوطات التاريخية وصيانتها».
وحول مشاركتها في الورشة، قالت نيل بايدار، اختصاصية الحفظ وتاريخ الفنون، التي تعمل في وزارة الثقافة والسياحة في تركيا: «لقد كانت هذه الورشة التدريبية في غاية الأهمية بالنسبة لي، فقد زودتني بالمعرفة العملية للاستخدام في مشروع حول أوراق المخطوطات الإسلامية التي أعمل عليها حالياً مع إحدى المؤسسات المعنية في تركيا، كما تعلمت موضوعات جديدة، منها استخدام الورق الأوروبي في المخطوطات الإسلامية».
وقال يوسف ضرغام، مدير مجموعة المخطوطات في المكتبة الرئيسية لجامعة الروح القدس بالكسليك في لبنان: «تعلمت الكثير من المعلومات المهمة في هذه الورشة التدريبية حول تاريخ المخطوطات، خاصة وسائل تحديد نوعية الورق المستخدم فيها. لقد كانت حقاً ورشة عملية فريدة في محتواها، إذ ناقشت موضوعاً مُهماً يُعرض لأول مرة في العالم العربي. وبقدر شعوري بالامتنان لمشاركتي وحضوري في هذه الورشة، شعرت بالسعادة الغامرة لرؤية مكتبة قطر الوطنية التي سمعت عنها كثيراً، وأبهرني ما بها من أجهزة وأدوات متقدمة لحفظ المخطوطات وصيانتها».
