‘Artist in Residence’ helps emerging and established artists
“مقر الفنانين” يمنح الفرص للفنانين الصاعدين والمخضرمين
Emerging and established artists taking part in the ongoing ‘Artist in Residence ‘programme’ at the Fire Station believe on the immense contribution of the unique initiative in their artistic growth by providing them space to experiment and giving them exposure.
“It has become a great hub of creativity, engaging with the community. It has been the mission of Qatar Museums to expand culture through contemporary art and certainly the Fire Station is a big proponent of that and the programme is a great way for the public to get involved like tonight,” American painter Michael Perrone, one of the resident artists, told media during the Open Studio Night yesterday.
Perrone, who is a teacher at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Arts in Qatar, said the programme has helped some of his students to continue their artistic growth as well as more established artists like him gain more exposure and develop creatively through meetings, mentorship and workshops.
For his project, Perrone turns his old lecture notes into works of art converting them into shapes and painting on them as well as create sculptures of the shapes.
“I think it is one of the strongest programmes in the world, and I would like to thank Qatar Museums and the Fire Station which have been a family for us for providing us a beautiful space and collaborating with us whenever we need help,” said Qatari artist Faisal Al Hajri.
Al Hajri’s works, which vary from paintings to installations, are philosophical, at times political in nature. One of the highlights of his works is an installation called “Blockade related to mental bondage.”
“What helped me in the programme is the fact that it’s a one-of-a-kind in Qatar which provides us studio spaces that we can use 24/7 and it’s very helpful in terms of also allowing us to talk with other artists so that we get the feedback that we need.
We get exposure in Qatar and around the world which is very helpful. The studio gives me time to connect with my work and create different experimentations,” Shaikha Jassim Al-Hardan, a Qatari artist who is a Graphic Design graduate from VCUarts Qatar.
Khalifa Al Obaidly, Director of the Fire Station said, “The Artist in Residence programme is part of Qatar Museums’ commitment to nurturing emerging talent in the country and providing platforms where creativity can thrive.
The Open Studio Night is proving once again to be one of our most popular events as it allows the public to see how far our artists have come ahead of the Artist in Residence exhibition in July. We are very excited to see what our talents will show us in a few months and I invite all members of the community to visit us then to see the final pieces.”

“مطافئ: مقر الفنانين” ينظم “الاستوديو المفتوح” لمحبي الفنون

نظمت “مطافئ: مقر الفنانين” مساء اليوم، فعاليتها الموسومة بـ”الاستديو المفتوح”.
وتتيح الفعالية السنوية الفرصة أمام محبي الفنون للقاء الفنانين المقيمين في برنامج الإقامة الفنية في مطافئ، وعددهم 19 فنانًا وفنانة.
وأصبح هذا اللقاء من الفعاليات المهمة التي يترقبها جمهور الفنون كل عام، حيث يتيح لهم التفاعل مع الفنانين والحديث معهم حول أعمالهم الفنية، إلى جانب استكشاف مبنى “مطافئ”.
وخلال اللقاء، استكشف الجمهور الأعمال التي ينشغل الفنانون بإنجازها حاليًا، وتتنوع هذه الأعمال بين الفنون البصرية والتصميم الجرافيكي، وتصميم الأزياء، وغير ذلك.
ويمتد برنامج الإقامة الفنية، الذي أُطلِق تحت رعاية سعادة الشيخة المياسة بنت حمد آل ثاني رئيسة مجلس أمناء متاحف قطر، لمدة 9 أشهر كل عام، ويُخصِّص البرنامج مرسمًا لكل فنان لإنجاز عمله الفني، كما يعزز التعاون بين الفنانين، ويساعدهم على تطوير أساليبهم الفنية عبر وسائل جديدة، إلى جانب لقاءاتهم مع أمناء المتاحف، وزيارة كافة المعارض التي تنظمها متاحف قطر، وحضور ورش العمل والمحاضرات.
وأوضح الفنان خليفة العبيدلي، مدير مطافئ: مقر الفنانين في تصريح له، أن برنامج الإقامة الفنية جزء من التزام متاحف قطر برعاية المواهب الناشئة في البلاد وتوفير منصات تدعم الإبداع.
وأشار العبيدلي إلى أن أمسية /الاستديو المفتوح/، تثبت مجددا أنها واحدة من أبرز الفعاليات الجماهيرية بمطافئ، حيث تتيح لمحبي الفنون رؤية الأعمال التي ينجزها فنانو برنامج الإقامة الفنية قبل الانتهاء منها وعرضها في معرض الإقامة الفنية في شهر يوليو المقبل.
وتضم قائمة أسماء الفنانين المقيمين في الدورة الحالية: من قطر شيخة جاسم الحردان، سارة حسن الأنصاري، محمد فرج السويدي، عبدالله نجيب الكواري، مريم مسعود العامري، نايلة الملا، فيصل راشد الهاجري، لولوة السليطي، سارة أحمد الفاداق، وروضة الخوري. ومن الأردن كل من حسن مناصرة، وعلاء باتا، ومن الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية جيسي باين، ومايكل بيروني، ومن مصر إيمان مكي، ومن باكستان سدرة زبيري، ومن إيطاليا فيديريكا فيزاني، ومن السعودية نوربانو فراس الحجازي، ومن فرنسا جيوم كلود فيليسيان روسير.
