QFFD & UN sign grant agreement for $2m
«قطر للتنمية» يدعم أنشطة الأمم المتحدة الإنمائية بمليوني دولار
Doha: Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) and the United Nations signed a grant agreement worth $2m over a period of two years, to the core budget of the reinvigorated resident coordinator system in the context of the reform of the United Nations development system to better support the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
On behalf of QFFD, the Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the UN, H E Sheikha Alya bint Ahmed Al Thani, signed the agreement.
The resident coordinator system serves as the cornerstone of a repositioned UN development system, that will drive coherence and integration of UN development action on the ground on a scale that responds to national needs and priorities, and work with UN specialised agencies, funds and programmes to enhance accountability, transparency and reporting on results at the country level.
The contribution of the Qatar Fund for Development will complement resources in the UN Special Purpose Trust Fund specifically set up for this purpose.
“The main objective of Qatar Fund for Development is to achieve comprehensive and sustainable development,” said Khalifa bin Jassim Al-Kuwari, Director General of Qatar Fund for Development.
He added: “The contribution for the reinvigorated resident coordinator system is a big step toward achieving this goal. We are proud to cooperate with this important partner to contribute and to enhance accountability, transparency and achieving results across the United Nations system and providing greater incentives for integrated action.”
UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed, Chair of the UN Sustainable Development Group, said: “The United Nations development system reform and the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals must be carried by everyone, United Nations and Member States alike. Voluntary contributions by Member States, such as by the QFFD, are fundamental to strengthening our structures and operations for more impactful results for people.”
وقّع صندوق قطر للتنمية والأمم المتحدة، اتفاقية منحة بقيمة مليوني دولار أميركي مقسمة على سنتين، من أجل دعم الموارد الأساسية لعمل نظام المنسقين المقيمين المعاد تنشيطه، وذلك في إطار إصلاح ركيزة التنمية المستدامة، ولإعادة تنظيم منظومة الأمم المتحدة الإنمائية.
وقعت بالنيابة عن صندوق قطر للتنمية، سعادة السفيرة الشيخة علياء أحمد بن سيف آل ثاني المندوب الدائم لدولة قطر لدى الأمم المتحدة.
ويعتبر هذا الدعم بمثابة حجر الأساس لنظام سابق أعيد تنشيطه باستراتيجية جديدة ستساهم في تعزيز المساءلة والشفافية، وتوفير حوافز أكبر من أجل عمل متكامل، لتمكين فرق الأمم المتحدة القُطرية من التوصل للنتائج على المستوى القُطري، وعلى نطاق يستجيب للاحتياجات والأولويات الوطنية.
وبهذه المناسبة، قال السيد خليفة بن جاسم الكواري، مدير عام صندوق قطر للتنمية: «الهدف الرئيسي لصندوق قطر للتنمية هو تحقيق التنمية الشاملة والمستدامة، وتمثّل هذه المنحة إلى نظام المنسّقين المقيمين المعاد تنشيطه للأمم المتحدة الداعم لنظام المنسقين المقيمين، خطوة كبيرة نحو تحقيق هذا الهدف. ونحن فخورون بالتعاون مع هذا الشريك المهم، للمساهمة في تعزيز المساءلة والشفافية، وتحقيق نتائج ملموسة على نطاق منظومة الأمم المتحدة، وتوفير حوافز أكبر من أجل عمل متكامل».
وقالت سعادة السيدة أمينة محمد، نائب الأمين العام للأمم المتحدة، رئيسة مجموعة التنمية المستدامة للأمم المتحدة: «يجب أن يقوم الجميع بدورهم، الأمم المتحدة والدول الأعضاء على حد سواء، في إصلاح نظام الأمم المتحدة، وتنفيذ أهداف التنمية المستدامة. تعتبر المساهمات الطوعية من الدول الأعضاء، مثل صندوق قطر للتنمية، أساسية لتعزيز هياكلنا وعملياتنا، لتحقيق نتائج أكثر تأثيراً على الناس».
