QM to take world-famous Pearls exhibition to Moscow
متاحف قطر تنظم معرض اللؤلؤ في موسكو في يوليو المقبل
DOHA: A new edition of the critically acclaimed Pearls: Treasures from the Seas and the Rivers exhibition will be travelling to Moscow in July as part of the Qatar Russia 2018 Year of Culture.
The exhibition is curated specifically for this year’s Year of Culture programme and will display 50 new, never-before-shown artefacts. A Qatar Museums (QM) exhibition, the showcase will be hosted by the World Diamond Museum at the State Historical Museum in Moscow from July 11, 2018 to October 1, 2018.
Comprising 100 pieces of jewellery and other examples of pearl craftsmanship, Pearls: Treasures from the Seas and the Rivers will introduce visitors to a selection of jewellery made from freshwater pearls born in Central Asia for the first time. Other masterpiece objects on show at the State Historical Museum will include a spectacular tiara worn by Archduchess Marie Valerie of Austria and treasures from other European monarchies.
The exhibition, which is considered one of QM’s flagship initiatives and is the first travelling exhibition organised by the institution, was designed to introduce audiences to the history and transformative impact that the pearl industry had on Qatar and the world. It chronicles pearl fishing in Qatar, providing an insight into the ancient methods and techniques used by pearl divers and an overview of the pearl trade in the Gulf. This is the sixth time that Pearls: Treasures from the Seas and the Rivers has travelled around the world, with the last show taking place in China as part of the Qatar China 2016 Year of Culture.
Commenting on the exhibition, its curator Dr. Hubert Bari said: “Pearls have long inspired artists and painters with their quiet elegance and mystery. This diverse exhibition will answer many of the questions surrounding these natural wonders, while taking visitors on a fascinating journey through the history of pearl diving and trade in Qatar.”
“The exhibition is a major highlight of the Qatar Russia 2018 Year of Culture, which will see two great cultures explore unexpected historical parallels through the use of pearls in traditional design and jewellery making. We hope that this is something that will help bring our people and countries ever closer together.”
The annual Year of Culture programme is made up of a wide variety of exhibitions and events in addition to literary and art workshops, film screenings, concerts, performances and trade shows. This year’s programme was officially launched at the Embassy of Qatar in Moscow on Qatar National Day.
An exhibition of Qatari culture, taking place simultaneously at the Embassy, introduced guests to Qatari traditions and gave an overview of contemporary Qatar. It was followed by a powerful performance from the renowned Igor Moiseev ballet at the Katara Opera House in Doha in February 2018.
The year is part of the landmark ‘Years of Culture’ initiative developed under the guidance of QM’s Chairperson HE Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani in 2012. It is designed to deepen understanding between nations and their people through mutual exchanges of arts, culture and heritage.
أعلنت متاحف قطر تنظيم نسختها الجديدة من معرضها الشهير دوليًّا “اللؤلؤ: كنوز من البحار والأنهار” هذا العام بمتحف الدولة التاريخي بموسكو بدء من يوم 11 يوليو المقبل ويستمر إلى 1 أكتوبر من العام الجاري، وذلك ضمن فعاليات العام الثقافي قطر روسيا 2018.
ويقدم المعرض، الذي أُعِدَّ خصيصًا للعام الثقافي قطر روسيا، مجموعة من أنفس جواهر اللؤلؤ في العالم تحتوي على أكثر من 100 قطعة من المجوهرات ومشغولات اللؤلؤ، من بينها 50 قطعة جديدة لم يسبق عرضها من قبل تتضمن مجموعة من المجوهرات المصنوعة من لآلئ المياه العذبة من آسيا الوسطى، إلى جانب تحف أخرى منها على سبيل المثال تاج يأسر الألباب اعتمرته أرشيدوقة النمسا ماري فاليري، ونفائس أخرى تعود لعصور الممالك الأوربية.
ويعد معرض اللؤلؤ واحدا من أبرز الفعاليات الدولية التي تنظمها متاحف قطر وأهم معارضها المتنقلة ويهدف المعرض إلى تعريف الجمهور بتاريخ صناعة اللؤلؤ والتغيّر الكبير الذي أحدثته في قطر والعالم. كما يوثّق المعرض تاريخ اللؤلؤ في قطر، مستعرضًا الوسائل القديمة التي استخدمها الغواصون لصيده، ومقدمًا لمحة عامة عن الأنشطة التي مارسها تجار اللؤلؤ في دول الخليج.
وتُعد هذه هي النسخة السادسة التي ينظم فيها معرض “اللؤلؤ: كنوز من البحار والأنهار” خارج دولة قطر، وكانت أخر محطاته عام 2016 في الصين ضمن برنامج العام الثقافي قطر الصين 2016.
وتعليقًا على تنظيم هذا المعرض، قال قيّم المعرض الدكتور هوبرت باري: “اللؤلؤ مصدر إلهام للفنانين والرسّامين منذ أمد طويل لما يتمتع به من أناقة وما يوحي به من غموض. وسوف يجيب هذا المعرض المتنوع عن العديد من الأسئلة التي تدور حول العجائب الطبيعية التي تحويها البحار والأنهار، مصطحبًا زواره في رحلة مدهشة يبحرون خلالها في تاريخ صيد اللؤلؤ في قطر ” مشيرا إلى أن معرض اللؤلؤ من أبرز فعاليات العام الثقافي قطر روسيا 2018 ، وسيكشف عن قواسم تاريخية مشتركة بين البلدين عبر اللؤلؤ المستخدَم في التصاميم التقليدية وصناعة المجوهرات، آملين أن يسهم ذلك في زيادة التقارب بين البلدين وشعبهما”.
جدير بالذكر أن برنامج العام الثقافي الذي يُقام سنويًا العديد من المعارض والفعاليات المختلفة إلى جانب ورش العمل الأدبية والفنية وعروض الأفلام والحفلات وعروض الأداء.
وقد جرى إطلاق البرنامج هذا العام رسميًّا في السفارة القطرية في موسكو في اليوم الوطني لدولة قطر، حيث جرى تنظيم معرض عن الثقافة القطرية في السفارة لتعريف الضيوف بالعادات القطرية ومنحهم فكرة عامة عن قطر في الوقت المعاصر. واستُكمِل الاحتفال بتدشين العام الثقافي في الدوحة من خلال تنظيم حفل أحيته فرقة الباليه الروسية الشهيرة “إيغور موسييف باليه” بدار الأوبرا في كتارا في شهر فبراير 2018.
يشار إلى أن العام الثقافي قطر روسيا 2018 يُعد جزءًا من مبادرة “الأعوام الثقافية” التي تُقام تحت رعاية سعادة الشيخة المياسة بنت حمد بن خليفة آل ثاني، رئيس مجلس أمناء متاحف قطر. وتهدف هذه المبادرة إلى تعزيز التفاهم بين البلدان وشعوبها من خلال التبادل المشترك للفنون والثقافة والتراث. كما تتيح المبادرة هذا العام فرصة لبناء علاقات مستدامة بين أفراد المجتمعين القطري والروسي وتعزيز التعاون المتواصل بينهما.
