PHCC begins bowel cancer awareness campaigns
الرعاية الصحية تنظم سلسلة برامج توعوية حول سرطان الأمعاء
Primary Health Care Corporations’ Screen for Life program is back with its activation campaigns in the observance of Bowel Cancer Awareness Month.
Like every year, this year Screen for Life will be organizing a host of activities such as organising lectures as well as setting up information booths at several malls and health centers in Qatar to create awareness among people on the importance of timely screening of Bowel Cancer.
Earlier this month, Screen for Life had launched its Campaign to celebrate Bowel Cancer Awareness month in March with the tag line ‘I Got Screened & Encourage You Too’. As part of the Campaign, Screen for Life will be raising awareness by having awareness and registration booths in malls and health centres and other locations in Qatar.
Screen for Life team will talk to people about bowel cancer service, answer questions and invite them to register to screening. These booths will be available at Gulf Mall, LuLu Hypermarket D-ring and Al Gharrafa until March 31.
Through such movement, both men and women 50-74 years with no symptoms are encouraged to get screened. Screen for Life team will also have a raffle draw with prizes for men and women who come for screening.
Dr Shaikha Abu Shaikha, Manager of Screening Programs at PHCC, said, “While it has just been mere 3 years of existence in propagating the cause of early screening of breast and bowel cancer, we are extremely proud of the growth and the awareness we have been able to create among the people of Qatar through our program ‘Screen for Life’.
Year on year, our powerful initiatives such as Bowel Cancer Awareness Month have been garnering greater response in achieving our objective of reaching out to every person of Qatar and making them aware on the need of timely screening of cancer.”
“Our recently launched campaign ‘I Got Screened & Encourage You Too’ seems to be gaining momentum already and our awareness booths at various malls of Qatar as well as lectures at various parts will only strengthen our momentum.
We encourage people of Qatar to take the benefit of this service in large numbers and motivate their friends and family members to get screened for bowel cancer,” she added.
The awareness booth is where people can register their information so that the program’s call centre can call them to schedule a screening appointment as well as learn more about bowel cancer and where they can get screened.
Through this initiative, people are constantly reminded that they can carry out the Fecal Immunochemical Test (FIT) test with ease in the privacy of their own home and they can book an appointment for screening by calling 8001112 where they can collect their complementary kit from one of the PHCC screening centers at Al Wakra, Leabaib and Rawdat Al Khail Health Centers.

وفي إطار فعاليات الشهر العالمي للتوعية بسرطان الأمعاء في شهر مارس، أطلق برنامج ’الكشف المبكّر لحياةٍ صحية‘ في وقتٍ سابقٍ من هذا الشهر حملةً للتوعية بسرطان الأمعاء تحت عنوان ’ أنا فحصت وأشجع الكل يفحص ‘. ويلتزم فريق البرنامج في إطار هذه الحملة بتعزيز الوعي حول سرطان الأمعاء عبر نشر أجنحة ترويجية للتوعية تتيح للجمهور تسجيل المواعيد لإجراء الكشف المبكر، وذلك ضمن المراكز التجارية والمراكز الصحية وغيرها من المواقع والوجهات في قطر.
وتهدف هذه الحملة إلى تشجيع الرجال والنساء الذين تتراوح أعمارهم بين 50-74 عاماً على إجراء الكشف المبكّر عن سرطان الأمعاء حتى وإن لم تظهر عليهم أية أعراض إصابة بالمرض. وسيحظى الرجال والنساء ممن يجرون الكشف المبكر بفرصة الدخول بسحبٍ للفوز بالعديد من الجوائز المميزة التي يقدمها فريق برنامج ’الكشف المبكر لحياة صحية‘.
وقالت الدكتورة شيخة أبو شيخة، مدير برامج الكشف المبكر في مؤسسة الرعاية الصحية الأولية: “رغم مرور 3 سنوات فقط على انطلاق جهودنا للتوعية بأهمية الكشف المبكّر عن سرطان الثدي والأمعاء، وقد حصدت مبادراتنا السنوية المثمرة، وخصوصاً ضمن إطار الشهر العالمي للتوعية بسرطان الأمعاء، استجابة واسعة النطاق، كما ساهمت في تحقيق هدفنا المتمثل بالوصول إلى أوسع شريحة ممكنة من الجمهور في قطر، وتسليط الضوء على ضرورة إجراء الكشف المبكّر عن السرطان بشكلٍ استباقي وفي الوقت المناسب، وتهدف الحملة الجديدة إلى إثراء وعي الجمهور حول أهمية ومنافع الكشف المبكر عن سرطان الأمعاء، وتشجيعهم على إجرائه، خصوصاً وأنه يساهم في تعزيز معدلات البقاء على قيد الحياة بنسبة تصل حتى 90٪.
