Afghan President hails Qatar’s efforts in peace mediation

Kabul: The President of Afghanistan, Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, has hailed the efforts exerted by the State of Qatar in mediating between the Afghan parties and its efforts to achieve peace in Afghanistan.
President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, met yesterday with Minister of Foreign Affairs’ Special Envoy for Counterterrorism and Mediation in Disputes’ Settlements H E Ambassador Dr. Mutlaq bin Majed Al Qahtani, who is currently visiting Afghanistan.
During the meeting, they discussed bilateral relations and ways of enhancing them.
They also discussed means to achieve stability and peace in Afghanistan, as well as the Qatari mediation efforts and good offices in bringing together the views of the parties concerned in this conflict.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs’ Special Envoy briefed the President of Afghanistan on the US talks with Taliban, which took place in a constructive and positive atmosphere, reflecting the seriousness of both sides in achieving progress in the path of reconciliation and achieving peace in Afghanistan.
For his part, the Afghan President hailed the efforts exerted by the State of Qatar in mediating between the Afghan parties and its efforts to achieve peace in Afghanistan.
In the same context, the Special Envoy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs met separately with Afghan Foreign Minister Salahuddin Rabbani, Head of National Directorate of Security (NDS) Mohammad Masoom Stanekzai and Chairman of the National Peace Council of Afghanistan Abdulkarim Khalili.
The meetings focused on a number of topics, notably the distinguished role played by the State of Qatar in the mediation and its position on the process of peace and reconciliation in Afghanistan, the rejection by all parties of a military solution to the peace process in Afghanistan, regional and international attitudes towards Afghanistan and the importance of regional and international cooperation in this regard.
استقبل فخامة الرئيس محمد أشرف غني رئيس جمهورية أفغانستان الإسلامية اليوم، سعادة السفير الدكتور مطلق بن ماجد القحطاني المبعوث الخاص لوزير الخارجية لمكافحة الإرهاب والوساطة في تسوية المنازعات، الذي يزور أفغانستان حالياً.
جرى خلال المقابلة بحث العلاقات الثنائية وسبل تطويرها وتعزيزها، وسبل تحقيق الاستقرار والسلام في أفغانستان، وجهود الوساطة القطرية ومساعيها الحميدة في التقريب بين وجهات نظر الأطراف المعنية في هذا الصراع.
كما قدم سعادته لفخامة الرئيس شرحا حول محادثات الجانب الأمريكي مع حركة طالبان التي دارت مجرياتها في أجواء بناءة وإيجابية، عكست جدية الجانبين في تحقيق تقدم في مسار المصالحة وتحقيق السلام في أفغانستان.
وأشاد الرئيس الأفغاني بجهود دولة قطر في الوساطة بين الأطراف الأفغانية، وسعيها لتحقيق السلام في أفغانستان.
وفي السياق ذاته، اجتمع سعادة المبعوث الخاص لوزير الخارجية خلال الزيارة مع سعادة السيد صلاح الدين رباني وزير الخارجية الأفغاني، وسعادة السيد محمد معصوم ستانكزاي رئيس الأمن الوطني، وسعادة السيد عبدالكريم خليلي رئيس مجلس السلام الوطني في أفغانستان، كل على حدة.
وتطرقت الاجتماعات إلى عدد من المواضيع أبرزها، الدور المميز الذي تقوم به دولة قطر في الوساطة وموقفها من عملية إحلال السلام والمصالحة في أفغانستان، ورفض جميع الأطراف للحل العسكري في عملية السلام في أفغانستان، بالإضافة إلى المواقف الإقليمية والدولية تجاه أفغانستان وأهمية التعاون الإقليمي والدولي في هذا الشأن.
