MME sets up department to ensure food security
وزارة البلدية: «الأمن الغذائي».. إدارة جديدة لتحقيق الاكتفاء الذاتي
Doha: The Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) has created Food Security Department under a recent administrative restructuring of the Ministry to enhance the state efforts to ensure food security in the country with special focus on increasing fresh local food production including vegetables, fish, milk and meat.
“The Food Security Department will work as an umbrella organisation under which all food security programs will be implemented in collaboration with the department concerned like agriculture, animal and fish,” Masoud Jarullah Al Marri, Head of the newly created Food Security Department told The Peninsula.
Al Marri is also the Executive Secretary of the Committee for Monitoring the Implementation of Food Security Policies in the Public and Private Sector of Qatar.
He said that the Department will help remove the obstacles in the way of implementing food security programs.
“The Department will prepare a complete food security programme to achieve the state goals in this regards,” said Masoud Jarullah Al Marri, adding the Department will monitor and follow up all programmes and projects of food security.
He said the function of the Department is also to implement the sustainable strategic project of the Ministry and those related to food security.
He said that the Department will also follow up the projects for producing green fodder which were launched by the Ministry. “The Department will also follow up the under construction projects of fish farming,” said Al Marri.
He said that the new Department has made a plan to evaluate all existing and new projects in a bid to boost these projects and to propose new projects to increase the self-sufficiency rate of Qatar in food production. He said the Department will propose the projects, set up the mechanism for them, divide the projects in phases for implementation and look into the financial and technical requirements.

كشف السيد مسعود جار الله المري، مدير إدارة الأمن الغذائي بوزارة البلدية والبيئة، أن الإدارة التي يترأسها تم استحداثها مؤخراً، ضمن الهيكل الإداري الجديد للوزارة الصادر بقرار أميري لحضرة صاحب السمو الشيخ تميم بن حمد آل ثاني أمير البلاد المفدى، حفظه الله ورعاه.
وأضاف خلال تصريحات صحافية، على هامش افتتاح معرض التمور الدولي بسوق واقف، مؤخراً، أن الإدارة الجديدة تركز على الإنتاج المحلي، ويتمثل في عدة محاور، من بينها اقتراح مشاريع الأمن الغذائي، وعمل برامج لمراقبة هذه المشاريع وطريقة سيرها وما توصلت إليه، بالإضافة إلى توجيه الدعم اللازم لتعزيز الإنتاج المحلي، وتذليل العقبات التي تواجه سير المشاريع، من أجل النهوض بالإنتاج المحلي، والمساهمة في تحقيق خطة الاكتفاء الذاتي، حسب الخطة المتبعة.
وحول أهم المشاريع التي تنفذها الإدارة، أوضح المري أنها تركز على المشاريع الجديدة والقائمة ضمن الاستراتيجية الكائنة للأمن الغذائي، سواء فيما يتعلق بالإنتاج المحلي من الخضراوات أو الثروة الحيوانية وكذلك السمكية، على سبيل المثال يوجد 10 مشاريع من البيوت المحمية، وتم ترسيتها على 10 شركات قطرية، فضلاً عن وجود 24 مشروعاً سيتم طرحها خلال السنوات المقبلة، ضمن مشاريع الإنتاج المحلي من الخضراوات.
وتابع قائلاً: فيما يتعلق بالثروة الحيوانية يوجد مشروع الأعلاف أيضاً، والإدارة الجديدة تشرف على التنفيذ وتراقب سير العمل فيه، وكذلك أيضاً مشاريع الإنتاج السمكي، مضيفاً أن الهدف من كل ذلك هو تحقيق الاكتفاء الذاتي في عدة منتجات، والإدارة تعمل على ذلك. وعن رخص المشروعات، قال المري إن رخصة كل مشروع سوف تصدر من الجهة التابعة لها، مثل مشاريع الثروة الحيوانية ستصدر بالتبعية من إدارة الثروة الحيوانية، وغير ذلك، لكن في الوقت نفسه يكون الاقتراح ومتابعة ومراقبة سير العمل وتنفيذ الاشتراطات يكون تابعاً لإدارة الأمن الغذائي الجديدة، مشيراً إلى أن العلاقة بين إدارة الأمن الغذائي والإدارات الأخرى تكميلية.
