Geneva: Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), has called for a halt to the administration of Covid-19 booster doses worldwide until at least the end of the year, with the aim of enabling each country to vaccinate at least 40 % of its population.
This call came a month after his previous first call for a global moratorium on booster doses until the end of September, to prioritize vaccination of the most vulnerable people around the world, who have not yet received the first dose of the vaccine, but there has been little change in the global situation since then.
He stressed that the “Covid-19” disease has killed more than 50,000 people per week, since October of last year, and during the past month, deaths remained at about 70,000 people per week.
“We have the solutions to stop the spread and save lives, but these solutions are either not well used, or are not well shared.” The unfair distribution of life-saving tools, including diagnostics, oxygen, personal protective equipment and vaccines, leads to the spread of the pandemic
Dr. Tedros noted what he described as much talk of vaccine equality and very few measures, noting that high-income countries promised to donate more than 1 billion doses, but less than 15 % of those doses were distributed, he said.

جنيف: دعا الدكتورُ تيدروس أدهانوم غيبرييسوس مديرُ عام مُنظمة الصحة العالميّة، إلى وقف إعطاء الجرعات المعزّزة ضد كورونا «كوفيد-19» على مُستوى العالم حتى نهاية العام على الأقلّ، بهدف تمكين كل دولة من تطعيم 40 بالمئة على الأقلّ من سكّانها. وجاءت هذه الدعوة بعد شهر من الدعوة الأولى التي أطلقها سابقًا بشأن وقف عالمي للجرعات المعززة حتى نهاية سبتمبر، لإعطاء الأولوية لتطعيم الأشخاص الأكثر عرضةً للخطر في جميع أنحاء العالم، ممن لم يتلقوا بعد الجرعة الأولى من اللقاح، ولكن لم يطرأ تغيير يُذكر في الوضع العالميّ منذ ذلك الحين.
وأكّد أن مرض «كوفيد-19» تسبب في مقتل أكثر من 50 ألف شخص أسبوعيًا، منذ أكتوبر من العام الماضي، وخلال الشهر الماضي، ظلّت الوفيات عند حوالي 70 ألف شخص في الأسبوع.. مُضيفًا: لدينا الحلول اللازمة لوقف انتقال العدوى وإنقاذ الأرواح، ولكن هذه الحلول إما لا تُستخدم بشكل جيد، أو لا يتم مشاركتها بشكل جيد.. معتبرًا أنَّ التوزيع غير العادل للأدوات المنقذة للحياة، بما في ذلك التشخيص والأكسجين ومعدات الوقاية الشخصية واللقاحات تؤدّي إلى انتشار الجائحة. وأشار الدكتور تيدروس إلى ما وصفه بالكثير من الكلام عن المُساواة في اللقاحات، والقليل جدًا من الإجراءات، مُشيرًا إلى أنّ البلدان ذات الدخل المرتفع وعدت بالتبرُّع بأكثر من مليار جرعة، ولكن لم يتم الوفاء إلا بأقلّ من 15 في المئة من هذه الجرعات، على حدّ تعبيره.
