Duhail Roundabout Closed to Traffic for Two Years
إغلاق دوار الدحيل بطريق الشمال لمدة عامين
The Public Works Authority ‘Ashghal’ is implementing a traffic diversion on Duhail Roundabout on Al Shamal Road to facilitate works on Duhail Interchange Upgrade project. The closure will start on Friday 1 February 2019 and will last for two years, in coordination with the General Directorate of Traffic.
During this time, road users heading towards Duhail Interchange from its four directions can only turn right, while Al Shamal Bridge will remain open, allowing users to continue south and north on Al Shamal Road. U-turns before the closed roundabout for users via Al Khafji Street and Al Gharrafa Street will also be available.
Alternatives routes
During the period of traffic change, Izghawa Interchange at exit 5 of Al Shamal road will become the access point for traffic between the eastern and western areas and Al Shamal Road. Road users can use Al kharaitiyat Interchange and Al Kheesa Interchange and Umm Slal Mohammed Interchange to go to and from Al Shamal Road, , as shown in the attached map.
To ease traffic inconvenience, Ashghal recently opened a 3.5 kilometre road parallel to Al Shamal Road on December 2018 linking Izghawa and Al Gharrafa areas. The new road extends from Izghawa Street to Al Oyoon Street and provides exit and access to Al Shamal Road to serve as an alternative route to Duhail Roundabout that will be closed.
West Bay to Al Gharrafa
During this closure, road users traveling from West Bay via Al Khafji Street heading towards Al Gharrafa can take a right turn at Arab League Street to Izghawa Interchange or take a right turn on Duhail Street or Duhail Roundabout to access Al Shamal Road and exit at exit 5 to reach Izghawa Interchange, take a left on the main bridge then another left turn at the next traffic signal towards Izghawa Interchange to join the newly constructed road to access Al Gharrafa and the malls in the area.
Al Gharrafa to West Bay
Road users heading from Al Gharrafa towards West Bay can use the new road to reach Izghawa Street, turn right onto Izghawa Interchange then continue straight to Arab League Street to reach West Bay and Qatar University.
West Bay to Doha
Road users traveling from West Bay via Al Khafji Street heading towards Doha can take a right turn at Al Arab League Street to reach Izghawa Interchange or take a right at Duhail Street or Duhail Roundabout to access Al Shamal Road and use exit 5 to Izghawa Interchange, and make a U-turn on the main bridge to Al Shamal Road towards Doha.
Doha to Al Gharrafa
Road users traveling from Doha heading towards Al Gharrafa via Al Shamal Road are to take exit 5 to reach Izghawa Interchange. At Izghawa Interchange they should take a left on the main bridge and take another left turn at the next traffic signal on Izghawa Street to join the newly constructed road to access Al Gharrafa and the malls in the area.
Making a U-turn back to Doha
Road users coming from Doha who wish to make a U-turn back to Doha, will be required to use exit 5 to reach Izghawa Interchange and make U-turn on the main bridge.
Al Shamal to West Bay
Road users on Al Shamal Road heading towards West Bay will be required to use exit 5 to reach Izghawa Interchange. At this interchange, they should turn left on the main bridge towards Arab League Street to reach West Bay and Qatar University.
Al Shamal to Al Gharrafa/ Al Gharrafa to Al Shamal
Road users on Al Shamal Road heading towards Al Gharrafa will be required to use exit 5 to reach Izghawa Interchange. At this interchange, they should turn right on the main bridge towards Izghawa continuing straight until they reach the second set of traffic signals and take a left turn to join the newly constructed road, they will be able to access Al Gharrafa and malls in the area. Road users heading to Al Gharrafa towards Al Shamal can use the same route to reach Al Shamal.
The Public Works Authority will install road signs advising motorists of the changes on the road. ‘Ashghal’ requests all road users to abide by the 60 kilometer speed limit and follow the road signs to ensure their safety.
New Project
The Duhail Interchange Upgrade project consists of works of 3.3 kilometre valued at approximately QAR 800 million. The upgrade consists of a three-level interchange including two new bridges providing a free flow connectivity. The current Al Shamal Bridge, which consists of 3 lanes in each direction, will be replaced by another bridge consisting of four lanes in each direction.
In addition to this, a new four-lane bridge will be constructed in each direction between Al Khafji Street towards Al Gharrafa Street.
Al Duhail Interchange will be replaced with a new signal-controlled junction under Al Shamal Bridge and Sheikh Faisal Roundabout will be removed. The project also includes the construction of an underpass which will allow road users to exit Al Shamal Road onto the service roads to access the nearby malls. It will also serve as the connection from Al Gharrafa Street towards Al Shamal.
The project consists of a total of 5 kilometres of pedestrian and cycle paths along Duhail and Gharrafa areas and parts of Al Shamal Road.
The upgrade of Duhail Interchange will provide a free flow in the area will alleviate traffic congestion and reduce travel time by up to 90%. It is expected to be complete in Q4 2021.
تنفذ هيئة الأشغال العامة “أشغال” تحويلاً مرورياً بدوار الدحيل بطريق الشمال لتسهيل البدء في أعمال مشروع تطوير تقاطع الدحيل اعتباراً من الجمعة 1 فبراير 2019 ولمدة عامين، وذلك بالتنسيق مع الإدارة العامة للمرور.
وخلال هذه الفترة يمكن للقادمين باتجاه تقاطع الدحيل من جهاته الأربعة الانعطاف يميناً فقط، كما سيبقى جسر الشمال فوق الدوار مفتوحاً، مما يسمح بالاستمرار على طريق الشمال للاتجاه شمالاً وجنوباً. وسيتم توفير مخرج للدوران إلى الخلف قبيل الدوار المغلق للقادمين من كل من شارع الخفجي من جهة وشارع الغرافة من جهة أخرى.
طرق بديلة
وخلال فترة التغيير المروري، سيصبح تقاطع إزغوى عند مخرج 5 بطريق الشمال حلقة الوصل البديلة للتقاطع أمام الحركة المرورية بين المناطق الشرقية والغربية وطريق الشمال، كما يستطيع رواد الطريق استخدام كل من تقاطع الخريطيات وتقاطع الخيسة وتقاطع أم صلال محمد للوصول من وإلى طريق الشمال، كما هو موضح في الخريطة المرفقة.
ولتسهيل الحركة المرورية أثناء هذه الفترة، قامت “أشغال” بافتتاح طريق جديد مواز لطريق الشمال في ديسمبر 2018 بطول 3.5 كيلومتر ليربط بين منطقة إزغوى ومنطقة الغرافة، حيث يمتد الطريق الجديد من شارع إزغوى حتى تقاطع شارع العيون ويوفر مدخلاً ومخرجاً إلى طريق الشمال ويعتبر طريقاً بديلاً لدوار الدحيل الذي سيتم إغلاقه.
الخليج الغربي – الغرافة
وخلال فترة الإغلاق ، يستطيع القادم من الخليج الغربي في اتجاه الغرافة عبر شارع الخفجي الانعطاف يميناً إلى شارع الجامعة العربية وصولاً لتقاطع إزغوى أو الانعطاف يميناً إلى شارع الدحيل أو الانعطاف يميناً من دوار الدحيل المغلق وصولاً لطريق الشمال ثم استخدام مخرج 5 المؤدي إلى تقاطع إزغوى ثم الانعطاف يساراً عبر الجسر الرئيسي ثم الانعطاف يساراً مرة أخرى عند الإشارة الضوئية التالية بشارع إزغوى واستخدام الطريق الجديد وصولاً للغرافة والمراكز التجارية في المنطقة.
الغرافة – الخليج الغربي
يستطيع القادم من الغرافة في اتجاه الخليج الغربي استخدام الطريق الجديد وصولاً لشارع إزغوى ثم الانعطاف يمناً إلى تقاطع إزغوى ثم مواصلة السير حتى شارع الجامعة العربية ومنه إلى الخليج الغربي وجامعة قطر.
الخليج الغربي – الدوحة
يستطيع القادم من الخليج الغربي في اتجاه الدوحة عبر شارع الخفجي الانعطاف يميناً إلى شارع الجامعة العربية وصولاً لتقاطع إزغوى أو الانعطاف يميناً إلى شارع الدحيل أو الانعطاف يميناً من دوار الدحيل المغلق وصولاً لطريق الشمال ثم استخدام مخرج 5 المؤدي إلى تقاطع إزغوى ثم الدوران للخلف عبر الجسر الرئيسي وصولاً لطريق الشمال في اتجاه الدوحة.
الدوحة -الغرافة
كما يستطيع القادم من الدوحة إلى الغرافة عبر طريق الشمال استخدام مخرج 5 المؤدي إلى تقاطع إزغوى ثم الانعطاف يساراً عبر الجسر الرئيسي ثم الانعطاف يساراً مرة أخرى عند الإشارة الضوئية التالية بشارع إزغوى واستخدام الطريق الجديد وصولاً للغرافة والمراكز التجارية في المنطقة.
الدوحة -الدوحة
في حين يستطيع القادم من الدوحة ويرغب في العودة مرة أخرى إلى الدوحة استخدام أيضاً مخرج 5 المؤدي إلى تقاطع إزغوى ثم الدوران إلى الخلف عبر الجسر الرئيسي.
الشمال – الخليج الغربي
يستطيع القادم من طريق الشمال في اتجاه الخليج الغربي استخدام مخرج 5 المؤدي إلى تقاطع إزغوى ثم الانعطاف يساراً عبر الجسر الرئيسي في اتجاه شارع الجامعة العربية ومنه إلى الخليج الغربي وجامعة قطر.
الشمال – الغرافة/الغرافة – الشمال
يستطيع القادم من طريق الشمال في اتجاه الغرافة استخدام مخرج 5 المؤدي إلى تقاطع إزغوى ثم الانعطاف يميناً عبر الجسر الرئيسي ثم الانعطاف يساراً مرة أخرى عند الإشارة الضوئية التالية بشارع إزغوى واستخدام الطريق الجديد وصولاً للغرافة والمراكز التجارية في المنطقة، كما يستطيع القادم من الغرافة في اتجاه الشمال استخدام المسار نفسه للوصول إلى طريق الشمال.
ستقوم هيئة الأشغال العامة بتركيب اللوحات الإرشادية لتنبيه مستخدمي الطريق بهذه التحويلة وتهيب بجميع مستخدمي الطريق الالتزام بحدود السرعة المسموحة 60 كيلومتراً في الساعة واتباع اللوحات الإرشادية حفاظاً على سلامتهم.
المشروع الجديد
يتضمن مشروع تطوير تقاطع الدحيل أعمالاً إنشائية بطول 3.3 كيلومتر وبتكلفة إجمالية للمشروع تصل الى حوالي800 مليون ريال قطري. كما تشمل الأعمال تطوير التقاطع الحالي إلى تقاطع يتألف من ثلاثة مستويات ليتضمن إنشاء جسرين جديدين يوفران تدفقاً مرورياً حراً حيث سيتم إزالة جسر الشمال الحالي الذي يتألف من ثلاثة مسارات في كل اتجاه وإقامة جسر آخر يتألف من أربعة مسارات في كل اتجاه، كما سيتم إنشاء جسر جديد يتألف من أربعة مسارات في كل اتجاه يصل بين شارع الخفجي وشارع الغرافة.
كما سيتم إزالة دوار الدحيل وإقامة تقاطع بإشارة ضوئية أسفل جسر الشمال وكذلك إزالة دوار الشيخ فيصل آل ثاني إلى جانب إنشاء نفق يسهل وصول القادمين من طريق الشمال في اتجاه طرق الخدمات والمجمعات التجارية وكذلك أمام القادمين من شارع الغرافة في اتجاه طريق الشمال.
كما يتضمن المشروع إنشاء مسارات للدراجات الهوائية والمشاة بطول نحو 5 كيلومتر تمتد من الدحيل الى الغرافة وأجزاء من طريق الشمال.
وستحقق أعمال التطوير انسيابية كبيرة في المنطقة حيث من المتوقع أن يصل اختصار زمن الرحلة إلى نحو 90%. ومن المقرر الانتهاء من أعمال المشروع في الربع الرابع من 2021.
