Amir, Pompeo review strategic ties, discuss efforts to fight terror

His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani on Sunday met with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and his accompanying delegation at Al-Bahr Palace.

They reviewed relations and strategic co-operation between Qatar and the US in various fields, especially those related to the results of the second Strategic Dialogue between the two countries, and means of enhancing partnership in defence, security, economy, trade and investment, as well as joint efforts in combating terrorism and extremism.

Pompeo thanked the Amir for the efforts of Qatar in this regard through the effective role carried out by the Al Udeid Air Base.

The latest regional and international developments, in particular the Gulf crisis and the situation in Palestinian, Syria and Afghanistan, were also discussed during the meeting.

The US Secretary od State was in Doha to take part in the second Qatar-US Strategic Dialogue.

استقبل حضرة صاحب السمو الشيخ تميم بن حمد آل ثاني أمير البلاد المفدى، سعادة السيد مايك بومبيو وزير خارجية الولايات المتحدة الأميركية الصديقة والوفد المرافق، في مكتبه بقصر البحر مساء أمس، وذلك بمناسبة زيارته للبلاد للمشاركة في الحوار الاستراتيجي القطري الأميركي الثاني.

جرى خلال المقابلة استعراض علاقات الصداقة والتعاون الاستراتيجي بين دولة قطر والولايات المتحدة في مختلف المجالات، وخصوصاً ما تعلق منها بنتائج الحوار الاستراتيجي الثاني بين البلدين، وسبل تعزيز الشراكة في مجالات الدفاع والأمن والاقتصاد والتجارة والاستثمار، إضافة إلى جهود الدولتين في مجال مكافحة الإرهاب والتطرف، وفي هذا الإطار شكر سعادة الوزير سمو الأمير على جهود دولة قطر في هذا المجال من خلال الدور الفعّال الذي تقوم به قاعدة العديد الجوية.

كما تمت مناقشة آخر المستجدات الإقليمية والدولية، ولا سيما الأزمة الخليجية، والأوضاع في كل من فلسطين وسوريا وأفغانستان.;
