QU selected among top 1,000 universities

DOHA: Qatar University (QU) has been ranked 332nd in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings 2019, among the top 1,000 universities in the world, and 36th in the “QS Top 50 Under 50” 2019 ranking.

In the QS World University Rankings 2019, QU improved on its 2018 performance by 17 positions. It is noteworthy that QU has moved up 219 ranks over the last 6 years. QU is also among the top 6 universities in the Arab region.

The University also improved in the “QS Top 50 Under 50” ranking by one position on its 2018 performance and by 13 positions on its 2016-2017 performance. It is almost amongst the 3 universities ranked from the Arab region.

The QS World University Rankings continue to enjoy a remarkably consistent methodological framework, compiled using six simple metrics that effectively capture university performance.

Thus, universities continue to be evaluated according to the following six metrics: Academic reputation (40%), Employer reputation (10%), Citations per faculty (20%), Faculty/student ratio (20%), International faculty (5%), and International student ratio (5%).

For inclusion in the “Top 50 Under 50”, universities must be under 50 years old. This is assessed based on each institution’s date of establishment.#

Institutions formed within the last 50 years through a merger, or which previously existed under a different name and/or status, may also be included. Established in 1977, QU is 41 years old.

First published in 2012, the “QS Top 50 Under 50” celebrates the world’s leading young universities.

It is published annually, based on the latest edition of the QS World University Rankings®, and since 2015 has doubled its range to include the “Next 50 Under 50”. 25 different study destinations are represented in this year’s ranking.

Commenting on this achievement, QU President Dr Hassan Al Derham said: “Being selected among the top universities in the world is an important moment to QU. In the 2019 rankings, QU improved by 17 places on its 2018 performance and by 61 places on its 2017 performance.

“QU’s improvement in the rankings is all the more admirable this year as the list of assessed universities increased by 44 universities since last year, however QU’s rank continued to improve.

“The “QS Top 50 Under 50” 2019 ranking also shows an improvement of the University’s last year performance as it was ranked 37th in 2018. This demonstrates the high-quality education that QU offers to its students and the alignment of its academic programs with the needs of the local labor market. QU will continue to address relevant local and regional challenges and to advance knowledge.

“The University developed a new five-year strategy (2018-2022) which maps out the routes to achieving continuing performance excellence, as we aim to prepare national leaders and develop the national human capital towards building a knowledge-based economy. احتلت جامعة قطر المركز 332 طبقاً لتقرير تصنيفات مؤسسة كاكاريللي سيموندس (كيو أس) للجامعات العالمية 2019، وذلك ضمن 1000 جامعة في العالم شملها التصنيف، والمركز 36 ضمن تصنيف كيو أس 2019 لأفضل 50 جامعة حديثة.

وفي هذا الإطار، حققت جامعة قطر تقدماً ملحوظاً في التصنيفات العالمية، حيث تقدمت 17 مركزاً بالنسبة لتصنيف 2018.

والجدير بالذكر أن الجامعة قد تقدمت 219 مركزاً خلال السنوات الست الماضية، كما أنها ضمن أفضل 6 جامعات في المنطقة العربية.

وبالإضافة إلى ذلك، تقدمت الجامعة بمركز واحد عن العام الماضي ضمن تصنيف كيو أس 2019 لأفضل 50 جامعة حديثة، و13 مركزاً بالنسبة لتصنيف عام 2016-2017. كما أنها ضمن أفضل 3 جامعات عربية قد شملها التصنيف.

ولا تزال تصنيفات كيو أس للجامعات العالمية تتمتع بمنهج متناسق بشكل ملحوظ، حيث إنها تستخدم ستة معايير بسيطة لتقييم أداء الجامعات. وفي هذا الإطار تُقيّم الجامعات بحسب المعايير التالية: السمعة الأكاديمية (40 %)، والسمعة لدى أصحاب العمل (10 %)، ونسبة أعضاء هيئة التدريس إلى الطلبة (20 %)، ونسبة أعضاء هيئة التدريس الأجانب (5 %)، ونسبة الطلبة الأجانب (5 %).

ويشمل تصنيف كيو أس 2019 لأفضل 50 جامعة حديثة فقط الجامعات التي لم تمض 50 عاماً على نشأتها، وذلك استناداً على تقييم تاريخ إنشاء كل مؤسسة. وفي هذا السياق، فقد مضى 41 عاماً على تأسيس جامعة قطر، إذ تم إنشاء الجامعة في عام 1977، مما يجعلها مؤهلة للانخراط ضمن قائمة الجامعات التي شملها التصنيف. ومنذ عام 2012 تسلط نتائج هذا التصنيف الضوء على الجامعات الحديثة الرائدة في العالم، وفي عام 2015 تزايد عدد الجامعات التي شملها التصنيف بنسبة الضعف. وتضمنت اللائحة المعلنة من كيو إس جامعات من 25 دولة.

وقال سعادة الدكتور حسن الدرهم رئيس جامعة قطر: «يعتبر إدراج جامعة قطر ضمن لائحة أفضل الجامعات في العالم إنجازاً مهماً، حيث حققت الجامعة تقدماً ملحوظاً في تصنيفات عام 2019، إذ إنها تقدمت 17 مركزا بالنسبة لتصنيفات عام 2018 و61 مركزاً بالنسبة لتصنيفات عام 2017. وتزداد أهمية هذا الإنجاز الذي أحرزته جامعة قطر في تصنيفات الجامعات العالمية، حيث إنها واصلت تقدمها في مراتب التصنيف بالرغم من زيادة عدد الجامعات التي شملها التصنيف بحوالي 44 جامعة.

وقال أيضاً: «بالإضافة إلى ذلك، أحرزت الجامعة تقدماً إضافياً ضمن تصنيف كيو أس 2019 لأفضل 50 جامعة حديثة إذ حققت المركز 37 في العام الماضي. ويسلط ذلك الضوء على جودة التعليم الذي تقدمه جامعة قطر لطلابها، حيث تتماشى البرامج الأكاديمية التي توفرها الجامعة مع احتياجات سوق العمل المحلية».

وأشار إلى أن الجامعة تواصل معالجة التحديات المحلية والإقليمية، فضلاً عن تعزيز المعرفة. وفي هذا السياق أطلقت الجامعة استراتيجيتها الجديدة لمدة خمس سنوات (2018-2022) والتي ترسم الطريق نحو تحقيق التميز على صعيد أدائها إذ إننا نلتزم بتأهيل وتطوير القدرات البشرية الوطنية نحو بناء اقتصاد قائم على المعرفة. ونحن نتطلع بشكل مستمر إلى تعزيز مكانتنا ضمن أفضل الجامعات في المنطقة والعالم».

وقال السيد آشوين فرنانديز المدير الإقليمي لكيو أس لدول الشرق الأوسط وشمال إفريقيا وجنوب آسيا: «حققت جامعة قطر تقدماً ملحوظاً ضمن تصنيفات كيو أس، بما فيها التصنيفات الأخيرة لكيو أس للجامعات العالمية 2019، وذلك عبر تحقيق التقدم بأكثر من 219 مركزاً منذ إدراجها في التصنيف منذ عام 2013. غير أن هذا التقدم لا ينحصر فقط على العدد، بل هو يدل على أن جامعة قطر تتماشى مع أهداف رؤية قطر الوطنية 2030، وتهدف إلى ابتكار نظام تعليمي على قدم المساواة مع المعايير العالمية، وذلك من خلال توفير جامعة للمستقبل للشباب القطري والمجتمع ككل. وتعتبر جامعة قطر اليوم من أسرع الجامعات تقدماً في المنطقة».;
