Amir to patronise opening of Doha Forum today

Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani will patronise today the opening of the 2018 Doha Forum, which is held under the title ‘Shaping Policy in an Interconnected World’ at the Sheraton Doha Hotel.

The two-day annual policy gathering will see participation from high-level speakers and attendees. From Qatar, the forum will be attended and addressed by Their Excellencies the Ministers, officials from various bodies, committees, centers, institutions and other partners in Qatar.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs H E Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani; Minister of Finance H E Ali Shareef Al Emadi; Minister of Commerce and Industry H E Ali bin Ahmed Al Kuwari, and Minister of State for Energy Affairs and President & CEO of Qatar Petroleum H E Saad bin Sherida Al Kaabi, will participate in high-level plenary sessions throughout the course of the Forum.

Additional distinguished speakers and attendees include: António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations; Hassan Ali Khayre, Prime Minister of Somalia; Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, Foreign Minister of Turkey; Mohammad Javad Zarif, Foreign Minister of Iran; Teodor-Viorel Meleşcanu, Foreign Minister of Romania; Berat Albayrak, Minister of Treasury and Finance of Turkey, and Maria Fernanda Espinosa, President of The United Nations General Assembly.

With the successes achieved over 18 years since its launch, Doha Forum is one of the most prominent international forums in the field of modern international affairs. Ideas on various pressing important regional and international issues interact to address them and thus reach visions that form the basis for serious collective action.

It also works on researching ways to implement them which ensures the broadest possible range of mutual benefits addressing the challenges facing the world today.

The 18th edition of Doha Forum will serve as a platform to discuss the ‘Shaping Policy in an Interconnected World’ and focus on four essential themes: Security, Peace and Mediation, Economic Development and Trends and Transitions.

This year’s edition, which includes about 25 plenary and parallel sessions, will open the door to a new phase of cooperation through partnerships with prestigious international institutions and leading local institutions.

This year’s edition of the Forum features leading strategic partners such as the Munich Security Conference and the International Crisis Group, the European Council on Foreign Relations, in addition to collaborating with content partners such as the Rand Corporation, the Global Drylands Alliance, the Brookings Doha Centre, the International Centre for the Study of Violent Extremism, the Valdai International Forum and other media partners of the forum.
