Sheikha Hind visits ‘Friendship Bench’ at WISH

DOHA: H E Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani, Vice Chairperson and CEO of Qatar Foundation, yesterday met with record-breaking Olympic swimmer and mental health campaigner Michael Phelps at the ‘Friendship Bench’ at the World Innovation Summit for Health (WISH) 2018.

The ‘Friendship Bench’, an evidence-based intervention tool created in Zimbabwe, aims to create a safe place for people struggling with anxiety and depression to find help. The bench was recently at the Global Ministerial Summit on Mental Health in London, and used by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

H E Sheikha Hind and Phelps then visited Dairo Vargas’ ‘Father and Son’ interactive painting. Specially commissioned for WISH, the piece was brought to life by Colombian-born Vargas alongside summit attendees, who were given the unique opportunity to make their own artistic contribution to the painting.

Phelps visited QF HQ in Education City, where he learned about QF’s various education, science and research, and community development entities and initiatives.

التقت سعادة الشيخة هند بنت حمد آل ثاني نائب رئيس مجلس الإدارة والرئيس التنفيذي لمؤسسة قطر، أمس، السباح الأولمبي العالمي مايكل فيلبس، والذي يعدّ واحداً من أنجح الرياضيين على الإطلاق، وأبرز الناشطين في مجال الصحة النفسية، وذلك على «مقعد الصداقة» الموجود على هامش مؤتمر القمة العالمي للابتكار في الرعاية الصحية «ويش 2018». وقد أُطلقت فكرة «مقعد الصداقة» في زيمبابوي، بهدف تقديم المساعدة للأشخاص المصابين بالقلق والاكتئاب، وقد سبق لدوق ودوقة كامبريدج الجلوس على هذا المقعد في مؤتمر القمة الوزاري العالمي حول الصحة النفسية الذي عُقد في العاصمة البريطانية لندن.

بعد اللقاء، زارت سعادة الشيخة هند ومايكل فيلبس لوحة «الأب والابن» التفاعلية، والتي أحضرها الفنان الكولومبي ديرو فارغاس إلى «ويش»، مبادرة مؤسسة قطر؛ حيث حظي الحضور بفرصة المشاركة في إضافة مساهمة فنية خاصة بهم إلى اللوحة.

وبعد مشاركته في «ويش»، زار فيلبس المقر الرئيسي لمؤسسة قطر في المدينة التعليمية؛ حيث تعرّف على مبادرات المؤسسة في التعليم والعلوم والبحوث وتنمية المجتمع.;
