Qatar welcomes Twitter move on privacy policy

DOHA: The Government of the State of Qatar has welcomed recent announcements by Twitter to strengthen privacy considerations and the overall safety of their users.

A statement by the Government Communication Office said that the State of Qatar also welcomes the steps Twitter is already taking to end the malicious misuse of its service, including taking down automated spam bots.

Qatar recognizes that many of Twitters efforts (to remove the more than 8-10 million fake accounts a week) have helped remove some of the weaponized propaganda and hate speech spread against our nation during the current blockade.

The Government Communication’s statement noted that Twitter plays a vital role in enabling individual freedoms. “We hope all of Qatar’s residents and citizens abide by Twitters Terms of Service to protect such freedoms.

Twitter is a public channel, and users should be treated with dignity and respect at all times” the statement said.

رحبت دولة قطر اليوم بإعلان موقع التواصل الاجتماعي “تويتر” النية بتعزيز سياسات الخصوصية والسلامة العامة لمستخدميه.

كما رحبت دولة قطر، في بيان لمكتب الاتصال الحكومي، بالخطوات التي اتخذها موقع “تويتر” لوضع حد لإساءة استخدام خدماته، بما في ذلك إزالة الذباب الإلكتروني غير المرغوب فيه.

وأشاد البيان بجهود موقع “تويتر” في إزالة من 8 إلى 10 ملايين حساب مزيف أسبوعياً، الأمر الذي تم استغلاله من قبل بعض الأفراد والمؤسسات والدول لنشر الأكاذيب وخطاب الكراهية ترويجاً لسياسات وأجندات ضيقة.

وأشار مكتب الاتصال الحكومي إلى أن موقع التواصل الاجتماعي “تويتر” يلعب دوراً فعالاً في تمكين حرية الافراد.. وقال “نحث على التزام كل من يعيش في دولة قطر بشروط خدمة موقع “تويتر” التي تسعى لحماية مثل هذه الحريات، حيث يعد الموقع منصة عامة وحرة لإبداء الرأي الفردي، فلذا لا بد من معاملة جميع المستخدمين باحترام في جميع الأوقات”.
