General Cleanliness Department removes sand from roads

DOHA: The General Cleanliness Department of the Ministry of Municipality and Environment has removed about 1,708 tonnes of sand and clay dust from the roads which accumulated due heavy rainfall recently. Safar Al Shafi, Director of General Cleanliness Department, explained that heaps of sand and mud had gathered on streets and roads sides due to rain and windstorm, said the Ministry in a statement.
But this time, pileup was much larger than previous years due to the heavy rains that hit the country and infrastructure works at a number of streets, which caused pileup of sand and dust in large quantities. He said that the Department prepared field teams for this purpose and made special programmes by mobilising necessary machines and workers.
A total of 78 sweeping machines and 345 workers were engaged in service to sweep and clean streets throughout the country, said Al Shafi.
He said the street cleaning work started immediately after removal of the rainwater from low-laying areas. A large number of highways and internal streets have been cleaned and work is still underway until the completion of the cleaning of all the streets, said Al Shafi.
He pointed to the great efforts exerted by the Department, which contributed to achieving the target within a record period.
تمكنت إدارة النظافة العامة بوزارة البلدية والبيئة من إزالة ورفع حوالي 1708 أطنان من الرمال والأتربة الطينية، التي تجمعت بالشوارع خلال فترة هطول أمطار الخير التي شهدتها البلاد مؤخراً.
وأوضح السيد سفر آل شافي مدير إدارة النظافة العامة، أن تجمع الرمال والطين على جانبي الشوارع والطرقات أمر طبيعي يحدث كل عام، إلا أن هذه المرة كانت أكبر بكثير عن السنوات السابقة، نتيجة الأمطار الغزيرة التي هطلت على البلاد، فضلاً عما تشهده مناطق الدولة من أعمال للبنى التحتية في عدد من الشوارع، الأمر الذي تسبب في زيادة هذه التجمعات بكميات كبيرة. وقد قامت الإدارة بتجهيز فرق ميدانية لهذا الغرض، ووضع برامج خاصة لذلك من خلال توفير جميع الإمكانيات من آليات ومعدات وعمالة، وتم تخصيص 78 آلة كنس شوارع مختلفة الأحجام و345 عاملاً ومراقباً لتنفيذ أعمال كنس وتنظيف الشوارع في جميع مناطق الدولة.;
