QU launches Innovation & Entrepreneurship Contest 2018

DOHA: Qatar University College of Business and Economics (CBE) and College of Engineering (CENG) launched the “Innovation & Entrepreneurship Contest 2018” at a press conference held yesterday at QU.

Contest registration started yesterday and will end on October 27, 2018, which was announced by CENG Acting Dean Prof Abdelmagid Hammuda and CBE Dean Dr Khalid Al Abdulqader in the presence of CBE Entrepreneurship Center Director Dr Mahmoud Khalil, as well as QU faculty and staff, and representatives of the local media.

This year’s contest will focus on creating business ideas and innovations that would directly benefit the Economy of Qatar and assist in building a knowledge based economy. This year, participating teams will have access to training materials provided by experts who will orient them on how to prepare and present effective business models and pitches outlining the essence of their business ideas. Presentations will be delivered in front of a panel of judges on November 11, 2018.

In addition to monetary prizes, winners will get the chance to have their ideas developed further in the Center of Entrepreneurship’s Incubator through vigorous coaching and training and enable them to excel their business plans, and possibly get funding opportunities and access the local business community.

Prof Hammuda said, “The contest is designed to spread awareness about the importance of entrepreneurial activities, trigger the entrepreneurial skills of QU students and involve them in the process of developing sound business plans. When they graduate, our students will enter a highly competitive business environment in Qatar.

“They have to acquire the skills and competencies to become the next leaders in the world of business. In this regard, CENG is committed to provide its students with a forum to develop their creative and innovative business ideas which will add value to their education.”

Dr. Al-Abdulqader stressed on the importance of innovative ideas to develop a sound business sector and to ultimately contribute to the country’s development and progress. He said, “Through this annual competition, we are inviting our students to invest their talents in the spirit of competition, shared knowledge and teamwork.

“The business ideas should be feasible, realistic and preferably serve the needs of the labor market and the private sector in Qatar. We look forward to seeing the innovative projects that will emerge from their creative minds.”

أطلقت كليتا الإدارة والاقتصاد والهندسة بجامعة قطر مسابقة الابتكار وريادة الأعمال تحت عنوان «نحو مشاريع وطنية مبتكرة» في دورتها السادسة للعام الأكاديمي 2018.

تهدف المسابقة إلى حثّ الطلبة على الإبداع في مجال ريادة الأعمال وطرح مشاريع واعدة لتكوين شركات صغيرة، وتتميز المسابقة هذا العام بتشجيع الطلاب من جميع التخصصات على ابتكار مشاريع من شأنها المساهمة في تطوير الاقتصاد المحلي والمعرفي لدولة قطر وخدمة المجتمع في الوقت ذاته.

وسوف تقوم لجنة بتأهيل 10 فرق للتصفيات النهائية وعرض مشاريعهم أمام لجنة التحكيم في ديسمبر 2018، فيما سيقوم فريق عمل المسابقة بعقد جلسات تدريبية تسبق المناقشات النهائية تحت إشراف لجنة خبراء ومختصين.

وقال الأستاذ الدكتور عبدالمجيد حمودة، عميد كلية الهندسة بالإنابة: «تأتي هذه المسابقة انطلاقاً من استراتيجيتنا في ظل رؤية قطر 2030 في ما يخص التنمية الاقتصادية والتنمية البشرية، فالأفكار المبتكرة والريادة في الأعمال تطلق آفاقاً جديدة للعمل والإنتاج وتدعم النمو الاقتصادي للدولة؛ لأن الاعتماد المتكرر على الأفكار التقليدية يقود في النهاية إلى الركود».

وأضاف: «تأتي هذه المسابقة التي تشرف عليها كليتا الهندسة والإدارة والاقتصاد لدعم الابتكار ورواد الأعمال في الجامعة وتوفير كل الاحتياجات التي تلزمهم، فهو أمر حتمي تتطلبه المشاريع الحديثة التي تعتمد على التنوع والابتكار والريادة، الأمر الذي يشجع الطلبة على التميز والإبداع في مشاريعهم».

ومن جانبه، رحّب الدكتور خالد شمس العبد القادر، عميد كلية الإدارة والاقتصاد، بفكرة المسابقة وأهميتها، وأعرب عن أمله في أن تكون هناك مشاركة واسعة لأعداد كبيرة من الطلبة في المسابقة، وأن تكون المشاريع المتقدمة ذات أفكار إبداعية وفريدة من نوعها، ولها إضافة نوعية للمجتمع، وغير مكررة، علماً بأنه يفضل أن يتم التخطيط للمشاريع لتكون في دولة قطر.

وأضاف: «جرى تم إعداد المسابقة لتحفيز المواهب الطلابية وتشجيعهم على التطوير والابتكار، لكي يتمكنوا من القيام بالمبادرات ودخول قطاع الأعمال، بالإضافة إلى أهمية تنظيم مثل هذه النشاطات للمساهمة في خلق توعية الطلاب ونشر ثقافة ريادة الأعمال بينهم».;
