Qatar to host 24th edition of Arabian Gulf Cup
رسميا.. قطر تستضيف “خليجي 24” العام المقبل
Doha: The Executive Committee of the Arab Gulf Cup Football Federation (AGCFF) yesterday announced Qatar as host country for the 24th edition of Arabian Gulf Cup next year.
The decision was taken during a meeting of the Committee held at the headquarters of the Association in Doha. The meeting was chaired by the President of Qatar Football Association (QFA) and Arab Gulf Cup Football Federation Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani.
The Executive Committee also approved the QFA President to continue as the AGCFF Chief for a period of two years.
The Gulf Cup, the region’s top football tournament for national teams, has always been the fans’ favourite event since it was first staged way back in 1970.
Since then the tournament has spread to eight teams, including Qatar, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, UAE, Oman, Iraq and Yemen.
Qatar hosted the prestigious event in 1976, 1992 and 2004 and emerged champions on three occasions.
In the 1992 Gulf Cup, the 11th edition of the tournament, saw hosts Qatar winning the tournament for the first time.
When Qatar hosted the tournament in 2004, Al Anabi emerged champions among eight teams.
Hosts of the previous edition, Kuwait hold the most number of titles in the regional event, having won the championship 10 times.
The previous edition was originally planned to be held in Doha, but was later moved to Kuwait.
The friendly gesture received immense praise from the football lovers from all over the world, including the FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
أعلنت اللجنة التنفيذية لاتحاد كأس الخليج العربي، عن استضافة قطر رسميا للنسخة الرابعة والعشرين من بطولة كأس الخليج لكرة القدم العام المقبل.
جاء ذلك خلال اجتماع عقدته اللجنة بمقر الاتحاد بالدوحة، برئاسة سعادة الشيخ حمد بن خليفة بن أحمد آل ثاني، رئيس الاتحاد القطري لكرة القدم، رئيس اتحاد كأس الخليج العربي.
كما أقر اجتماع اللجنة التنفيذية أيضا استمرارية سعادة الشيخ حمد بن خليفة بن أحمد آل ثاني، في رئاسة اتحاد كأس الخليج العربي لمدة عامين قادمين، على أن يتم اعتماد القرار خلال أقرب اجتماع للجمعية العمومية وفقا لما ينص عليه النظام الأساسي للاتحاد الخليجي.
وكلفت اللجنة التنفيذية خلال اجتماعها الأمانة العامة للاتحاد واللجان العاملة بالقيام بواجباتها حسب ما تنص عليه اللائحة.
