DFI to host 3rd edition of Producers Lab in November

DOHA: The Doha Film Institute will host the 3rd edition of its comprehensive Producers Lab from November 3, for a duration of six days, opening doors for participants to gain a thorough understanding of the creative, artistic, and strategic aspects of producing feature-length documentary and narrative films.

Prospective participants may submit application online by October 1, 2018. An opportunity for Qatar and Mena-based producers to develop their skills further, the Producers Lab will be led by experts from the industry. Open to only 10 participants, the intensive workshop will feature training exercises, film case studies, group tutorials, one-on-one meetings and master-classes by industry experts. These will help the participants gain deeper insight into the various elements of film producing and truly understand the role of a producer.

Fatma Al Remaihi, Chief Executive Officer of the Doha Film Institute, said: “While the director, cast and crew help realise a film project, producers are the driving force of cinema. In addition to investing time and resources, they must also be proficient in diverse aspects of filmmaking so that they can offer valuable inputs that help take the project to the next level.”

“Through our Producers Lab, which is part of our focus on offering year-round training, we also aim to strengthen co-productions in the MENA region, build networking opportunities and improve the overall quality of films produced here.”

Highlighting the fundamental role producers play in defining, supporting and influencing the voice of filmmakers, the Producers Lab will also offer participants the opportunity to explore film marketing and distribution strategies with an in-depth focus on targeting the right audiences, understanding international markets and employing effective sales tactics.

A number of case studies will be presented throughout the sessions, enabling them to address questions related to script development, executive production, finance and budget plans, managing the post-production workflow, marketing, pitching and distribution. Industry standard technical documents and templates will be shared with participants and discussed in detail.

These cover budget, financing plan, distribution and sales strategy samples, and treatment and pitch examples.

In addition to providing an understanding of the producer’s role in all stages of film production, the workshop will help them know more about the responsibility of various types of producers, how to apply for film funds, develop co-production strategies, manage post-production workflow, develop a marketing plan and gain insights on implementing key marketing tools. As part of DFI’s collaboration with European Audiovisual Entrepreneurs (EAVE), one project will be selected to participate to their Producers Workshop 2019.

The workshop is designed for producers, investors, financiers, filmmakers interested in entering the filmmaking business in the area of production. Candidates must have feature-length project in development, production or post production with a director/screenwriter associated to the project. The director/screenwriter will be able to partake in some aspects of the programme.

Applications to take part in the Producers Lab close on October 1, 2018. The price of participation is QAR2,000. Only 8 to 10 Qatar and MENA-based producers with a project in development will be selected.

أعلنت مؤسسة الدوحة للأفلام، عن تنظيم النسخة الثالثة من ورشة تدريب المنتجين وتستمر لمدة ستة أيام ابتداء من 3 نوفمبر المقبل.

وتهدف الورشة إلى تعزيز معارف المشاركين حول الجوانب الإبداعية والفنية والاستراتيجية لإنتاج الأفلام الروائية والوثائقية الطويلة.

وتوفر الورشة فرصة للمنتجين في قطر ومنطقة الشرق الأوسط وشمال إفريقيا لتطوير مهاراتهم تحت إشراف خبراء ومحترفين.. حيث تستقبل الورشة 10 مشاركين لتوفر لهم التدريب العملي المكثف ودراسات حالات حول أفلام معينة كأمثلة واستشارات خلال جلسات توجيهية جماعية وكذلك لقاءات خاصة فردية وندوات دراسية يقدمها أساتذة وخبراء في هذا المجال، وسيكتسب المشاركون في الورشة رؤى أعمق في مختلف عناصر إنتاج الأفلام وفهم دور المنتج بطريقة أفضل.

وقالت فاطمة الرميحي، الرئيس التنفيذي لمؤسسة الدوحة للأفلام في تصريح اليوم، إن المنتجين يبقون القوة الدافعة في السينما، بينما يساعد المخرج وفريق العمل والممثلون على إنجاز الفيلم.

وأكدت الرميحي على وجوب تمتع المنتجين بكفاءة عالية في مختلف جوانب صناعة الأفلام وأن يقدموا رؤاهم التي تساعد على إنجاز الفيلم.

ونوهت إلى أنه من خلال ورشة تدريب المنتجين التي تندرج ضمن برامج وورش مؤسسة الدوحة للأفلام على مدار العام، فإن المؤسسة تسعى إلى تعزيز الإنتاج المشترك في منطقة الشرق الأوسط وشمال إفريقيا، وتوفير فرص التعارف واللقاءات وتحسين جودة الأفلام المنتجة.

وتركز ورشة تدريب المنتجين على الدور الرئيسي والمركزي الذي يقوم به المنتجون في دعم أعمال صناع الأفلام، وتمنح المشاركين الاطلاع على استراتيجيات تسويق وتوزيع الأفلام مع تركيز معمق على استهداف الفئة المناسبة من الجمهور وفهم الأسواق الدولية واعتماد أساليب وتقنيات مبيعات فعالة.

وأوضحت مؤسسة الدوحة للأفلام، أنه خلال الورشة، سيتم عرض العديد من دراسات حالات معينة كأمثلة، الأمر الذي يمكن المشاركين من معالجة أسئلة متعلقة بتطوير النصوص والإنتاج التنفيذي والتمويل وخطط الميزانية والتسويق والتوزيع.. كما سيبحث المشاركون بالتفصيل في نماذج ووثائق تقنية منها خطط تمويل الميزانية ونماذج استراتيجيات التوزيع والمبيعات ونماذج عن معالجات معينة.

وإلى جانب التعرف على دور المنتج في كافة مراحل إنتاج الفيلم، تساعد الورشة المشاركين على الاطلاع على مسؤوليات مختلف أنواع المنتجين وكيف يمكن التقدم بطلبات لتمويل الأفلام وتطوير استراتيجيات الإنتاج المشترك وإدارة مرحلة ما بعد الإنتاج وكذلك وضع خطط التسويق واكتساب المعارف حول أدوات التسويق الرئيسية.

وضمن برنامج التعاون بين مؤسسة الدوحة للأفلام وبين المؤسسة الأوروبية السمعية البصرية لرواد الأعمال EAVE، سيتم اختيار مشارك واحد للمشاركة في ورشة المنتجين في عام 2019.

جدير بالذكر، أن المدربين في ورشة تدريب المنتجين هم: جوفان مارجانوفيك، رئيس قسم الصناعة في مهرجان سراييفو السينمائي، فيوليتا بافا مستشارة ورشة المنتجين والتي عملت مبرمجة في مهرجان بيونس آيرس السينمائي الدولي وكمديرة مشاركة لسوق الإنتاج المشترك للأفلام اللاتينية BAL، درة بوشوشة خبيرة الإنتاج التي أنتجت وشاركت في إنتاج عدة أفلام وثائقية تونسية ودولية قصيرة وطويلة، جاد أبي خليل مدرب المشاريع ورئيس جمعية “بيروت دي سي” (الجمعية الثقافية للسينما العربية)، أرانكا ماتيس خبيرة مبيعات وستقدم الخدمات الاستشارية وتتولى المبيعات الخاصة بالأفلام التي تشتريها الشركة كما تخوض الإنتاج المشترك وعمليات التخطيط الاستراتيجي، كونستانتينا ستافريانو خبيرة في مراحل ما بعد الإنتاج وأحد مؤسسي جرال، ليس لينس-ميلر منتجة ورئيسة قسم الدراسات، EAVE وأنتجت خلال مسيرتها أكثر من 50 فيلما.
