Qatar and Gambia sign grant agreement worth $3m

DOHA: Qatar and Gambia have signed a grant agreement worth $3m at the Embassy of Qatar in Banjul to promote transitional justice, the rule of law and the establishment of a comprehensive system of democracy in Gambia.

The Ambassador of Qatar to Gambia, Faisal bin Fahad Al Mana, and Gambian Minister of Agriculture, Lamin Dibba, on behalf of the Minister of Finance, signed the agreement, QNA reported.

Ambassador Al Mana explained that the Qatari support for Gambia came in fulfilment of Qatar’s commitment to the new government of Gambia during the donor conference in Brussels in May.

He stressed that the two countries will strengthen their cooperation in the coming years in support of the distinguished bilateral relations for the benefit of the two friendly peoples.

The Ambassador said that the relations between Qatar and Gambia have made significant progress recently in several fields. He pointed out that several agreements have been signed in the field of double taxation, employment and maritime navigation.

Lamin Dibba thanked Qatar, praising its financial and moral support for Gambia democratic process. The Gambian Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Abubacarr Tambadou, the Gambian Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Lamin Camara, and the Gambian Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Ada Gaye, attended the signing ceremony.

وقعت دولة قطر وجمهورية غامبيا، اتفاقية منحة بقيمة ثلاثة ملايين دولار أميركي، بهدف تعزيز عملية العدالة الانتقالية وسيادة القانون، وإنشاء نظام شامل للديمقراطية في غامبيا، وذلك بمقر سفارة دولة قطر في بانجول.

وقع الاتفاقية من الجانب القطري سعادة السيد فيصل بن فهد المانع سفير دولة قطر لدى غامبيا، ومن الجانب الغامبي سعادة السيد الأمين دامبون ديبا وزير الزراعة نيابة عن وزير المالية.

وأوضح سعادة السفير المانع أن هذا الدعم القطري لغامبيا جاء تنفيذاً لتعهد دولة قطر لحكومة غامبيا الجديدة أثناء مؤتمر المانحين في بروكسل في مايو الماضي. وأكد أن البلدين سيعززان تعاونهما في السنوات المقبلة دعماً للعلاقات الثنائية المتميزة بينهما، من أجل مصلحة الشعبين الصديقين.

وقال سعادة السفير إن علاقات دولة قطر وجمهورية غامبيا شهدت تطوراً ملموساً في الآونة الأخيرة في عدة مجالات، مشيراً إلى أنه قد تم التوقيع على عدة اتفاقيات في مجال الازدواج الضريبي والعمالة والملاحة البحرية.

من جانبه، عبر سعادة السيد الأمين دامبون ديبا عن شكره لدولة قطر، وأثنى على دعمها المادي والمعنوي لمشروع غامبيا الديمقراطي.

حضر حفل التوقيع سعادة السيد أبوبكر تامبيدو النائب العام ووزير العدل الغامبي، وسعادة السيد الأمين كمارا وكيل وزارة المالية، وسعادة السيدة آدا غاي وكيل وزارة الزراعة.;
