Qatar 2022 projects exceed 150mn man hours

The 2022 FIFA World Cup project recently passed 150mn man hours across all sites, including 116mn man hours at stadium construction sites alone, the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) announced.
Reaching this landmark figure is tantamount to the strong collaboration between the SC and its numerous stakeholders, according to Yasir al-Jamal, vice chairman of the SC’s Technical Delivery Office.
Construction of the stadiums being built to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup is advancing rapidly across Qatar, with the venues for the first tournament in the Arab world continuing to take shape during the peak year of preparations.
Following the completion of Khalifa International Stadium – Qatar’s first tournament-ready venue – in May 2017, the SC is advancing as scheduled with work on the remaining seven venues.
“Major progress continues to be made across our stadium sites – and this is credit to not only the work of the SC, but also our various stakeholders, contractors and sub-contractors,” said al-Jamal.
“From day one, we have committed to strong collaboration with all our partners – particularly in relation to the health and safety of our workers. Reaching 150mn man hours is a notable landmark as we continue our journey towards 2022.”
More than 30,000 people are currently engaged on SC projects, with 26,000 directly involved in the construction of proposed Qatar 2022 stadiums.
With regard to health and safety, more than 90,000 people have undertaken site safety inductions, while the SC’s Health & Safety Assurance Division has overseen 1,800 site safety visits. In addition, the SC organises monthly Safety Health and Environment Leadership Team meetings with key stakeholders, including the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs, Ashghal and Qatar Rail.
Since 2016, the SC has worked alongside Building and Woodworkers International, a global trade union, to carry out joint health and safety inspections, while contractors are encouraged to visit different project sites to share lessons learned and best practices.
Al Jamal added: “The health, safety and wellbeing of our workers is our number one priority. We remain committed to regular inspections and collaboration opportunities, both of which allow us to share knowledge and lessons learned.”

وفي تعليقه على هذا الإنجاز، أشار ياسر الجمال، نائب رئيس المكتب الفني في اللجنة العليا، إلى أن هذا النجاح هو نتاج تكاتف الجهود بين اللجنة العليا وشركائها والمقاولين والمقاولين الفرعيين.
وقال ياسر الجمال في تصريح صحفي: “تتواصل الأعمال في مواقع بناء الاستادات المخصصة لاستضافة بطولة كأس العالم لكرة القدم قطر 2022.. فمنذ بدء أعمال البناء في الاستادات، التزمنا بتعزيز علاقتنا مع كافة الشركاء خاصة المعنيين بصحة عمالنا وسلامتهم، ويعتبر اجتياز 150 مليون ساعة عمل محطة بارزة في مسيرتنا نحو استضافة البطولة وصولا لعام 2022”.
وأضاف الجمال: “تضع اللجنة العليا صحة العمال وأمنهم وسلامتهم في قائمة أولوياتها. وبدورنا، نواصل التزامنا بتعزيز تعاوننا مع الشركاء، وإجراء عمليات تفتيش دورية، الأمر الذي يمنحنا فرصة تبادل المعرفة والخبرات المستفادة”.
وفي إطار اهتمام اللجنة العليا بأمن وسلامة كافة العمال في مواقع البناء، أقامت اللجنة محاضرة سلطت الضوء على معايير الصحة والأمن والسلامة في مختلف مواقع العمل التابعة للجنة العليا.
كما أشرفت إدارة الأمن والسلامة في اللجنة العليا على 1800 زيارة ميدانية للتأكد من التزام مواقع العمل بتطبيق معايير الأمن والسلامة.. علاوة على ذلك، تنظم اللجنة العليا اجتماعات شهرية تجمع فريق الصحة والأمن والسلامة والبيئة بأهم الشركاء، بما في ذلك وزارة العمال، وهيئة الأشغال العامة (أشغال)، وشركة سكك الحديد القطرية (الريل).
وعملت اللجنة العليا جنبا إلى جنب مع الاتحاد الدولي لعمال البناء والأخشاب بهدف إجراء عمليات تفتيش تعاونية لتدقيق معايير الصحة والسلامة.
كما تشجع اللجنة العليا الأطراف المتعاقدة لزيارة مواقع بناء بهدف تبادل الخبرات والدروس المستفادة وأفضل الممارسات.
يُذكر أن مشاريع اللجنة العليا تضم أكثر من 30 ألف عامل في الوقت الراهن، بما في ذلك 26 ألف عامل في مواقع بناء الاستادات المستضيفة للبطولة بعد أربعة أعوام من الآن.
