Qatar @roadto2022 Exhibition opens in Moscow

The Qatar @roadto2022 Exhibition at the historic GUM department store in Moscow is now open, the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) has said.

Located on the ground floor of the store, the free-to-attend attraction offers visitors a trip through football history, with memorabilia including match-worn shirts from legends such as Pelé, Diego Maradona and Xavier Hernández, along with mascots and official balls from past tournaments.

In addition, the exhibition showcases Qatar’s plans for the next edition of the tournament in 2022 while celebrating the country’s football history, including the comprehensive FIFA World Cup tickets collection of Qatari collector Mohamed Abdulatif, according to a report on sc.qa.

Lana Kayed, the SC’s head of Art & Culture, has organised the exhibition.

“The objective of the exhibition is to engage with football fans in Russia and introduce them to Qatar’s preparations for the World Cup,” said Kayed.

“We want to showcase the passion for football in Qatar and highlight football’s unique ability to unite people of all cultures and backgrounds.”

Kayed thanked Abdulatif for sharing his memorabilia, which is proving a highlight for visitors.

“Mohamed is an engineer but he has an incredible passion for football and has built up a vast collection over the years. It includes tickets from every opening match and final – it’s the most complete tickets collection in the world,” Kayed continued.

“We also have the official poster from the match Pelé played in Qatar in the 1970s, which was donated by former Al Rayyan player Ali al-Ali.”

Kayed added: “Showcasing personal collections highlights the fact this is a people-led exhibition, which I think is a beautiful part of the installation. We’ve really tried to display people’s passion for football.”

In addition to viewing memorabilia, visitors to the exhibition are given the chance to record a personal message for the people of Qatar. They can also view sculptures created especially for the exhibition by leading Qatari and Russian artists.

The exhibition is open from 10am to 10pm every day until Sunday, July 15.

The Qatar @roadto2022 Exhibition is one of several installations organised by the SC during the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Majlis Qatar and Elements Qatar are attracting hundreds of visitors a day in Gorky Park, while the Qatar-Russia portals are giving people a glimpse of life in the two countries, the report adds.

وتعود مجموعة المقتنيات لعدد من الجامعين بينهم فنان الكاريكاتير القطري محمد عبداللطيف ورئيس رابطة قدامى اللاعبين علي العلي.

كما يقدم المعرض للجمهور لمحة عن استعدادات دولة قطر لاستضافة النسخة القادمة من بطولة كأس العالم عام 2022، بالإضافة لتاريخ كرة القدم في قطر وموقعها كمركز لتنظيم الأحداث الرياضية في المنطقة.

وفي تعليقها على إقامة هذا المعرض، قالت السيدة لنا كايد مديرة إدارة التواصل المجتمعي بالإنابة في اللجنة العليا للمشاريع والإرث: “إن الهدف من هذا المعرض هو التفاعل مع جماهير كرة القدم المتواجدين في روسيا وتعريفهم باستعدادات دولة قطر لاستضافة بطولة كأس العالم لكرة القدم 2022، كما نسعى أيضا من خلال مختلف الأنشطة في روسيا لنظهر للجمهور شغف كرة القدم في دولة قطر ونسلط الضوء على تاريخ هذه اللعبة المميز وقدرتها على جمع الشعوب من مختلف الثقافات”.

ويمكن لجمهور المعرض أيضا تسجيل رسالة للشعب القطري الذي سيستضيف النسخة المقبلة لبطولة كأس العالم، كما يمكنهم مشاهدة عدد من المنحوتات التي صنعها فنانون روس وقطريون خصيصا للمعرض.
