With more and more countries beginning to ease lockdown procedures, which have been adopted to reduce the spread of the new Coronavirus, the question now remains the impact the epidemic will have on airfares when passenger planes return for regular flights.
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has issued a report predicting the cost of airline tickets and the impact of the Coronavirus on air fares following the lifting of the ban and restrictions on flights during the Corona era.
The report shows that if flights resume and the rules of social distancing are followed on board, i.e. leaving the middle seats empty, the cost of tickets will increase in an attempt to cover the cost of flying by up to 54% compared to last year.
Although ticket prices may start low at first, air travel can become costly as social distancing restrictions on seats increase and aircraft operating costs increase, the report said.
According to international reports monitored by Al-Sharq, experts expect lower ticket prices in order to motivate potential customers. However, there are factors that may lead to higher ticket prices, starting with the bankruptcy of some companies, leading to a decline in supply and reduced competition, to a reduction in the number of aircraft available to passengers, due to the discontinuation of their use for obsolescence.
Moreover, the puzzling question remains how quickly passengers will return to air travel again, with aviation industry workers feeling that the industry will not return to pre-epidemic conditions until 2022, 2023 or perhaps thereafter.
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) expects that the demand for air travel will be low in the period following the resumption of flights between the world’s countries, despite the need for some business travellers to travel for business and trade, and the desire of others to visit their friends and relatives, because they missed them so much during the period of embargo and closure.
It notes that one of the good news for airlines is that fuel, which is the largest variable value in its budget, will be low in price, because there is a surplus in the oil markets, keeping prices low, as motorists now note in many countries of the world.

في ظل تزايد عدد الدول التي بدأت في تخفيف إجراءات الإغلاق، التي اتُخِذَت للحد من التفشي الوبائي لفيروس كورونا المستجد، عاد السؤال الذي يراود الكثيرين الآن، يتمثل في مدى التأثير الذي سيُخلّفه الوباء على أسعار تذاكر السفر جوا، عندما تعود طائرات الركاب لتقوم برحلاتها المنتظمة من جديد.
اتحاد النقل الجوي الدولي أصدر تقريراً يتوقع تكلفة تذاكر الطيران وتأثير فيروس كورونا على أسعار الرحلات الجوية بعد رفع الحظر والقيود عن رحلات الطيران في زمن كورونا.
ويظهر التقرير أنه في حال استئناف الرحلات الجوية واتباع قواعد التباعد الاجتماعي على متن الطائرات، أي ترك مقاعد الوسط فارغة، فسترتفع تكاليف تذاكر السفر في محاولة لتغطية تكاليف الطيران بما قد يصل إلى 54% مقارنة بتلك التي شهدها القطاع في العام الماضي.
ورغم أن أسعار التذاكر قد تبدأ منخفضة في البداية، إلّا أن السفر الجوي قد يصبح مكلفاً مع زيادة قيود التباعد الاجتماعي المفروضة على المقاعد، وزيادة تكاليف تشغيل الطائرات، بحسب ما ذكره التقرير.
وبحسب تقارير دولية رصدتها الشرق قإن خبراء يتوقعون خفض أسعار التذاكر بهدف تحفيز العملاء المحتملين. لكن هناك عوامل قد تفضي إلى رفع أسعار بطاقات السفر، بدءا بإفلاس بعض الشركات، ما سيقود إلى تراجع حجم العرض وتقلص المنافسة، وصولا إلى تقلص عدد الطائرات المتاحة أمام الركاب، بسبب التوقف عن استخدامها لتقادمها.
علاوة على ذلك، يبقى السؤال المحير، هو ذاك المتعلق بمدى سرعة عودة الركاب إلى السفر جوا من جديد، وذلك في ظل شعور عام ينتاب العاملين في صناعة الطيران بأن أوضاع هذا القطاع لن تعود إلى ما كانت عليه في فترة ما قبل الوباء، حتى حلول عام 2022 أو 2023 أو ربما بعد ذلك.
ويتوقع اتحاد النقل الجوي الدولي أن يكون حجم الطلب منخفضا على السفر الجوي، في الفترة التالية لمباشرة استئناف الرحلات بين دول العالم، وذلك رغم احتياج بعض المسافرين من رجال الأعمال للتنقل لأغراض العمل والتجارة، ورغبة آخرين في زيارة أصدقائهم وأقاربهم، من فرط افتقادهم لهم، خلال فترة الحظر والإغلاق.
ويشير الاتحاد إلى أن من بين الأخبار الجيدة لشركات الطيران، أن الوقود الذي يمثل أكبر عنصر متغير القيمة في ميزانيتها، سيكون منخفض الثمن، بسبب وجود فائض في المعروض في أسواق النفط، ما يبقي الأسعار متدنية، كما يلاحظ سائقو السيارات الآن في العديد من دول العالم بالفعل.
