Qatar Petroleum enters into three exploration blocks in Mexico

Qatar Petroleum (QP) entered into three farm-in agreements to acquire about 30 percent of Totals participating interest in blocks 15, 33 and 34 located in the Campeche basin, offshore Mexico.
QP said in a statement that each of the farm-in agreements is subject to customary regulatory and other approvals by Totals existing partners and the government of Mexico.
Commenting on this occasion, HE Minister of State for Energy Affairs, the President and CEO of Qatar Petroleum Saad Sherida Al Kaabi said that “we are pleased to sign these agreements, which further expand Qatar Petroleums footprint in Mexico, and demonstrate our commitment to achieving our international growth strategy, with Latin America as a core area in our international portfolio.”
His Excellency added that the company looks forward to collaborating further with Total, our other partners in these blocks, and the government of Mexico. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Mexican authorities and our partners for their continued support.”
The three offshore blocks are situated in the Campeche basin and within 30 to 90 kilometers of the giant Cantarell and KMZ oil fields. The total area covered by the blocks is approximately 2,300 square kilometers, with water depths ranging from about 10 meters to 1,100 meters.

وقّعت قطر للبترول ثلاث اتفاقيات للاستحواذ على ما يقارب من 30 % من حصة شركة توتال في المناطق البحرية 15، و33، و34 الواقعة في حوض كامبيتشي في خليج المكسيك.
وستخضع الاتفاقيات الثلاث إلى الموافقات الرسمية المعتادة لشركاء توتال الحاليين، وللحكومة المكسيكية.
وفي معرض تعليقه على هذه المناسبة، قال سعادة المهندس سعد بن شريده الكعبي، وزير الدولة لشؤون الطاقة، العضو المنتدب والرئيس التنفيذي لقطر للبترول: «نحن سعيدون بالتوقيع على هذه الاتفاقيات التي تعكس التزامنا بتنفيذ استراتيجيتنا للنمو الدولي وتعزز من تواجد قطر للبترول في المكسيك، حيث تحتل أميركا اللاتينية موقعاً مركزياً في استثماراتنا الدولية».
وأضاف سعادة الوزير الكعبي: «نتطلع إلى التعاون مع شركة توتال وجميع شركائنا في هذه المناطق وحكومة المكسيك. وأود أن أغتنم هذه الفرصة لأتقدم بالشكر إلى السلطات المكسيكية وإلى شركائنا على دعمهم المتواصل».
تقع المناطق البحرية الثلاثة في حوض كامبيتشي على مسافة تتراوح بين 30 و90 كيلومتراً من حقلي نفط كانتاريل وKMZ العملاقين. وتبلغ المساحة الإجمالية للحقول حوالي 2,300 كيلومتر مربع، وتتراوح فيها أعماق المياه بين 10 أمتار و1,100 متر.
