Quadrantid meteor shower to illuminate Qatar sky tomorrow
Residents of Northern Hemisphere including Qatar resident will have a good chance to seeing and observing Quadrantid meteor shower, moreover, it will illuminate northern hemisphere sky from the evening of Friday (tomorrow) until the dawn of Saturday (January 4, 2020), Qatar Calendar House (QCH) has announced.
Astronomer expert at Qatar Calendar House (QCH) Dr. Beshir Marzouk said the Quadrantid meteor shower is one of the important meteors showers seen from earth, where the average rate of Quadrantid showers flow will be 80 Quadrantid meteors per hour according to astronomer experts on meteors shower observations.
Moreover, it is usually active every year from the end of December till the second week of January, while its peak occurs from evening of January 3, till dawn of January 4.
Dr. Beshir Marzouk added: “The observing of meteor shower does not need astronomical instruments, so that Qatar residents and the countries of all Northern Hemisphere residents can see Quadrantid meteor showers with naked eye from places without light and environment pollution,” he added.
He said the people interested in observing meteor shower need to looking to northeast horizon of sky from midnight till dawn of Saturday to catch Quadrantid meteor showers. “They can also take a nice photo for Quadrantid meteor shower by using recent digital cameras, but they must increase an exposure time of camera when taking a photo to get best photos for Quadrantid meteor shower.”
The Quadrantid meteor shower is created by debris from ‘EH1 Comet’ where the earth passes through the dust and debris it leaves behind during end of December till the second week of January every year.
The observing of Quadrantid meteor shower this year will be very special because the sky will be darker from midnight until the dawn of Saturday, where the moon will set around midnight time of Saturday.
