Sheikha Hind Joins 1st Panel Discussion of CMU-Q Dean’s Lecture Series

Doha: Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar (CMU-Q) – a Qatar Foundation partner university – hosted HE Vice Chairperson and CEO of Qatar Foundation Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al-Thani at the CMU-Q Deans Lecture Series. Students, alumni, faculty, and staff from across Education City took part in a thoughtful conversation about a purpose-driven education.

HE Sheikha Hind shared her insights on an education rooted in purpose, saying: “When Qatar Foundation was established 25 years ago, it was founded out of a growing need to provide quality education for its community; an education that was excellent, as well as rooted, in our traditions and teachings about the meaning of life.” HE Sheikha Hind also stressed the importance of working for a greater good. “When we fail to connect to work ideals greater than the task at hand, then we have failed to understand the meaning and dignity of work. So many modern formulas for happiness seem to fail because we fail to acknowledge these enduring truths. We are called to seek the greater good. We are called to transcendent principles. By laying the foundations of virtue, our lives flourish, and our business will come for the ride as well.” The discussion kicked off the CMU-Q Deans Lecture Series for the new academic year. Michael Trick, the dean of CMU-Q, moderated the discussion.

The Deans Lecture Series at Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar features leaders in government, industry, and academia who share their experiences and insights on global issues. The Deans Lecture Series has hosted some of the most influential thinkers in Qatar.

الدوحة: استضافت جامعة /كارنيجي ميلون/ في قطر، إحدى الجامعات الشريكة لمؤسسة قطر للتربية والعلوم وتنمية المجتمع، سعادة الشيخة هند بنت حمد آل ثاني نائب رئيس مجلس الإدارة والرئيس التنفيذي لمؤسسة قطر، ضمن “سلسلة محاضرات العميد”، بمشاركة وحضور الطلاب والخريجين، وأعضاء هيئة التدريس والموظفين من مختلف أنحاء المدينة التعليمية.

وخلال اللقاء تحدثت سعادة الشيخة هند عن رؤيتها لتعليمٍ ذي نبلٍ ومقصدٍ عالٍ، قائلة: “منذ 25 عاماً، عند نشأة مؤسسة قطر، تأسست مبادئها على توفير تعليم عالي الجودة لأبناء المجتمع القطري؛ تعليم متميز وينبع من ثقافتنا وتعاليم ديننا”.

وركزت سعادتها على أهمية العمل في سبيل تحقيق الصالح العام، فقالت: “عندما نتخلّف عن وصل العمل بمقاصده الأخلاقية، نكون قد أخفقنا في إدراك معنى وكرامة العمل.. نحن نسعى إلى المصلحة العامة وتنمية قيمنا المعنوية قبل المادية، وبذلك تزدهر حياتنا ويمتد أثر ذلك إيجابيًا على جميع جوانب عملنا”.

وقد أدار الجلسة الأولى من “سلسلة محاضرات العميد” للعام الدراسي الجديد الدكتور مايكل تريك، عميد جامعة كارنيجي ميلون في قطر.
