Qatar achieved goal to provide water, sanitation services to all

DOHA: Qatar has succeeded in achieving the sixth goal of sustainable development by ensuring the availability of water and sanitation services for all the residents in the country, said Minister of Energy and Industry, H E Dr Mohammed bin Saleh Al Sada.
He stressed on the importance of intelligent water management as a basis for sustainable development, as water plays an essential role in adapting the social, economic and environmental systems with accelerating changes while speaking at a high-level conference on International Decade for Action, “Water for Sustainable Development, 2018-2028”.
The conference which started yesterday in Dushanbe, Tajikistan will run until June 22. Dr Al Sada also referred to the launch of the Permanent Water Resources Strategy Committee and Qatar’s National Water Act, which aims to secure water for future generations.
The President of Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa), Eng Essa bin Hilal Al Kuwari, reviewed the efforts of achieving the sixth goal of sustainable development in light of the rapid population growth witnessed by Qatar and Kahramaa’s efforts to ensure water quality according to the highest international standards.
Al Kuwari praised the success of Kahramaa through the National Program for Conservation and Energy Efficiency (Tarsheed) in reducing the per capita consumption of water, despite the increase in demand in Qatar.
Al Kuwari pointed to the efforts of the State of Qatar in achieving water and food security through the strategy of integrated water management, water recycling and use in a number of purposes such as central cooling of the areas as an alternative to drinking water in accordance with the decisions of the Permanent Water Resources Strategy Committee.
The conference, organised by the Government of Tajikistan in cooperation with the United Nations (UN) and a number of partners, aims to continue and enrich the debate on the high-level launch event of the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development 2018-2028” held on March 22 in New York. It discusses ways in which the Member States, relevant UN bodies, specialized agencies, regional commissions and other organizations of the UN system, as well as relevant partners, including the private sector, can contribute to support the implementation of the 2030 Sustainable Development Plan.
The conference also discusses the importance of monitoring, financing, capacity development, innovation, technology, knowledge, information, and data, as well as best practices and promoting partnership to implement those objectives.
More than 1,000 participants from 100 countries, including heads of state, government, ministers, senior officials, UN agencies representatives, international and regional organisations, international financial institutions, business communities, non-governmental organizations and civil society, and selected scientists and experts in this field are participating in the conference, which seeks to implement water goals and targets.
The conference will deepen the understanding of the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development 2018-2028”, promote integrated water resources management and stimulate actions to support the implementation of sustainable water-related sustainable development goals.
It also aims to mobilise the efforts of governments, UN agencies, international organizations and non-governmental organizations, as well as other parties at all levels, to implement the Decade for Action to achieve internationally agreed water goals to ensure greater emphasis on integrated water resources management to achieve the 2030 Sustainable Development Plan and create a solid platform for coordinated and integrated actions aimed at promoting sustainable water resource management.
تشارك دولة قطر في فعاليات المؤتمر رفيع المستوى لبدء «العقد الدولي للعمل: الماء من أجل التنمية المستدامة 2018-2028»، والذي تنظمه حكومة طاجيكستان بالتعاون مع منظمة الأمم المتحدة وعدد من الشركاء خلال الفترة من 20 حتى 22 يونيو الحالي في العاصمة الطاجيكية دوشنبه.
يهدف المؤتمر إلى مواصلة وإثراء النقاش حول حدث الإطلاق رفيع المستوى للعقد الدولي للعمل «المياه من أجل التنمية المستدامة 2018 – 2028» الذي عقد في 22 مارس الماضي في نيويورك، حيث يناقش الطرق التي يمكن بها للدول الأعضاء وهيئات الأمم المتحدة ذات الصلة والوكالات المتخصصة واللجان الإقليمية وغيرها من مؤسسات منظومة الأمم المتحدة -فضلاً عن الشركاء المعنيين بما في ذلك القطاع الخاص- المساهمة في دعم تنفيذ خطة التنمية المستدامة لعام 2030، كما يناقش كذلك أهمية الرصد والتمويل وتنمية القدرات والابتكار والتكنولوجيا والمعرفة والمعلومات والبيانات، إلى جانب أفضل الممارسات وتشجيع الشراكة لتنفيذ تلك الأهداف.
في كلمته بالمؤتمر أوضح سعادة الدكتور محمد بن صالح السادة وزير الطاقة والصناعة أهمية الإدارة الذكية للمياه كأساس للتنمية المستدامة، حيث تلعب المياه دوراً جوهرياً في تكيف النظم الاجتماعية والاقتصادية والبيئية مع المتغيرات المتسارعة، وأكد على نجاح دولة قطر في تحقيق الهدف السادس من أهداف التنمية المستدامة بضمان توافر المياه وخدمات الصرف الصحي للجميع في دولة قطر.
كما أشار سعادته إلى تدشين اللجنة الدائمة للموارد المائية الاستراتيجية المتكاملة لإدارة المياه، وإلى انتهاء دولة قطر من الاستراتيجية الوطنية للمياه، والتي تهدف إلى تأمين المياه للأجيال القادمة.
كما استعرض سعادة المهندس عيسى بن هلال الكواري جهود تحقيق الهدف السادس من أهداف التنمية المستدامة في ظل الزيادة السكانية المتسارعة التي تشهدها دولة قطر، وجهود كهرماء في ضمان جودة المياه وفق أعلى المعايير العالمية.
نجاح
كما أوضح سعادته نجاح كهرماء من خلال البرنامج الوطني للترشيد وكفاءة الطاقة «ترشيد» في خفض معدل استهلاك الفرد من المياه، رغم زيادة الطلب والنهضة الشاملة التي تشهدها البلاد، مشيراً إلى جهود دولة قطر في تحقيق الأمن المائي والغذائي من خلال استراتيجية الإدارة المتكاملة للمياه، وإعادة تدوير المياه واستخدامها في عدد من الأغراض كالتبريد المركزي للمناطق كبديل عن المياه الصالحة للشرب وفق قرارات اللجنة الدائمة للموارد المائية.
ويشارك في المؤتمر -الذي يسعى إلى تنفيذ الأهداف والغايات المتعلقة بالمياه- أكثر من ألف مشارك من 100 دولة، بينهم رؤساء دول وحكومات ووزراء وكبار المسؤولين وممثلي مؤسسات الأمم المتحدة والمنظمات الدولية والإقليمية والمؤسسات المالية الدولية ومجتمعات الأعمال والمنظمات غير الحكومية والمجتمع المدني، إلى جانب نخبة من العلماء والخبراء في هذا المجال.
ومن شأن هذا المؤتمر أن يعمّق من فهم العقد الدولي للعمل «المياه من أجل التنمية المستدامة 2018 – 2028 « ويعزز الإدارة المتكاملة للموارد المائية ويحفز الإجراءات لدعم تنفيذ أهداف التنمية المستدامة المتعلقة بالمياه على وجه التحديد.
حشد
كما يهدف المؤتمر إلى حشد جهود الحكومات ومؤسسات الأمم المتحدة والمنظمات الدولية والمنظمات غير الحكومية وكذلك الأطراف الأخرى على جميع المستويات، لتنفيذ خطة عمل العقد لتحقيق الأهداف المتفق عليها دولياً والمتعلقة بالمياه، لضمان زيادة التركيز على الإدارة المتكاملة للموارد المائية من أجل تحقيق خطة التنمية المستدامة لعام 2030 وخلق منصة صلبة لإجراءات منسقة ومتكاملة تهدف إلى تعزيز الإدارة المستدامة للموارد المائية.;
